So Do You Want To Be An Associate Producer? Plus Other Stuff Happening Around Phantom Lake

It's out with the old film, in with the new, around Saint Euphoria pictures these days. Director Christopher Mihm and his staff have torn down the sets used for "Terror From Beneath the Earth" to begin construction on the sets for the upcoming production of "Destination: Outer Space." The sets took about 90 minutes to destroy after it had taken a crew of five two months to build.

It seems, however, that the construction of the new sets necessary to film "Destination: Outer Space" will be delayed somewhat, while Saint Euphoria finds new funding for the film. The party who was originally going to back the project, unexpectedly pulled out earlier this week.

That is why Mihm is offering an Associate Producer credit, plus free tickets to the premiere and five free copies of the DVD, to anyone who donates at least $50 to help in construction of the much needed sets.

As far as the rest of the production is concerned, much of the cast is already in place. Lovely actress Shannon McDonough, who we just profiled last week, will be doing her best Majel Barrett-Roddenberry impression as the ship's computer voice in the film, alongside Euphoria mainstays Josh Craig (Captain Jackson/Director Jackson) and M. Scott Taulman (Gustov).

(Above - Mihm hams it up while tearing down the sets of "Terror Beneath the Earth")

Here is the synopsis for "Destination: Outer Space":

During a test flight of Earth's first faster-than-light-speed rocket, an incident occurs that throws test pilot Captain Mike Jackson (originally introduced in 2008's "Cave Women on Mars") halfway across the galaxy! Lost in deep space, Captain Jackson must use all his wits and derring-do to find a way back to his beloved home world. A film unlike any other, "Destination: Outer Space" is full of excitement and otherworldly adventure that includes mysterious, alien planets, robotic lifeforms, beautiful space pirates, alien creatures hell-bent on galactic domination and much, much more!

For those who would like to donate to Mihm's movie project, he can be contacted through the Saint Euphoria website - HERE

Christopher R Mihm has created his own Batman movie. That is to say that he has created a movie with a giant, mutated, humanoid, bat creature in it.

Of all the directors out there today, who are taking the time to make movies that mirror the classic 'drive-in' horrors of the 1950s and 60s, Mihm is by far the best. His films capture the true 'feel' of those movies that were produced all those years ago. For Mihm it is passion that was passed down from his late father, a man who loved 'the classics' from the golden era of sci fi. The director was practically raised on these types of films, so it would stand to reason that all those hours parked in front of the tube with his father would serve as his education in film making. If there is anybody out there, who is truly qualified to make these types of movies, it is Christopher R Mihm.

Here is the official synopsis for Mihm's "Terror from Beneath the Earth":

After years of underground atomic testing, one of the animals living within the Wisawa caves (a system that stretches from Phantom Lake to the Deadlands) has undergone a radical and unimaginably horrible transformation! While exploring the caves, Dr. Vincent Edwards (Mike Cook) and colleague Rosemary Bennett (Stephanie Mihm) stumble across evidence in the disappearance of local children. After reporting the find to the local sheriff, Dr. Edwards and Rosemary are tapped to lead a rescue attempt. Along with the sheriff and small-town farmer Stan Johnson (the children's father), the rescue party quickly comes to the realization that if the caves don't get them, whatever unseen terror lurking in the shadows just might!

It looks like another classic from Christopher R Mihm and Saint Euphoria Pictures!

Terror From Beneath The Earth Is Ready For A May Premiere

The Heights Theatre in Columbia Heights, Minnesota will be the location for the premiere of Christopher Mihm's latest monster film, "Terror From Beneath The Earth." The cast and crew will be on hand for the event that will feature cake and other special exclusive goodies for those lucky enough to attend. A lot of the specifics are still be worked out, but it looks like it will be a great event for monster movie fans.

If you miss the premiere "Terror" will screen as part of a triple-feature over the Memorial Day weekend at the Hi-way 18 Outdoor Theater in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Again details for that engagement are still being worked out.

For those who are not familiar with Christopher R. Mihm and his production company, Saint Euphoria Pictures / All For George Productions, you have been really missing something. "Terror" will be the companies fourth film, the others being "The Monster of Phantom Lake", "It Came From Another World" and "Cave Women On Mars." With each production Mihm's skill as a director has improved and his teams ability to recreate the feel of the classic B movies of the 50s' and 60s' has become unparalleled. If things continue on this track "Terror From Beneath The Earth" will become another cult movie icon.

This time around it is man-sized mutant bats that end up terrorizing Minnesota.

Rachel Grubb Takes Mihm's Monsters With Her To Vegas

Horror and fantasy movie starlet and pin-up queen, Rachel Grubb, will be taking two of Christopher R Mihm's retro monster films with her when she visits Xanadu Las Vegas convention this April.

Grubb, who starred in both "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and "Cave Women on Mars" will be on hand at the convention to sign autographs and great her adoring public.

Honestly I think Grubb truly stole the show as Hagra (Lead Huntress of the Liak tribe) in "Cave Women on Mars." Those who haven't seen it, really should give it a look. It is a great indie film and Grubb looks like a real up-and-comer in it.

Well enough of my praises for Rachel Grubb, here is the skinny from Saint Euphoria:

Both films will screen Saturday, April 18th as an afternoon double-feature at the Xanadu Las Vegas convention, an event dedicated to the wonderful worlds of Science Fiction, Fantasy, imaginative art and influence on technology. From rockets-to-the-moon to your garage band podcast, traditional art to CGI and digital graphics, movie magic, independent films to imaginative literature old and new! Notable guests include author Robert J. Sawyer, Academy Award winning special effects technician Joe Viskocil, actress Chase Masterson of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame and many others. This is the first time either film has screened in Nevada.

Honestly it looks like the convention is shaping up to be a real good one. Fans can find out more info - HERE

Today marks the final day of shooting for Christopher Mihm's latest retro monster movie, "Terror from Beneath the Earth."

Later this evening Michael Kaiser will step in front of the camera as bumbling rookie policeman, Deputy Hayes, for the final scene, thus completing the principal photography for the film.

This past weekend, Kaiser donned his monster costume for the last time, and the actual finale for the movie was filmed. That final scene featured actors Stephanie Mihm (Rosemary Bennet), Elizabeth Kaiser (Alice Johnson) and Elliott Mihm (Danny Johnson).

Look for "Terror from Beneath the Earth" to premiere later this Spring.

Filming on Christopher Mihm's latest monster movie, "Terror from Beneath the Earth!", had to be cancelled when one the cast came down with a bad case of gallstones. Mike Cook, who plays scientist Dr. Vincent Edwards in the film, was diagnosed with Cholelithiasis prior to the weekend shoot, which was scheduled to include scenes that involved his character. According to Mihm the scenes will be rescheduled, and shouldn't effect the films late Spring/early Summer release.

As for Cook, he has been resting at home and is on the mend.

Fans who want to send their well-wishes to Mike Cook can do so through Saint Euphoria's website - HERE

Earlier this week I posted an article about Christopher R. Mihm's latest monster movie project, "Terror From Beneath The Earth". Today we have learned a little bit more about the monster in the film, directly from the directer himself. Now normally Mihm likes to keep the identity of his monsters secret until the film premieres, but this time he has decided to let the "bat" out of the bag, so to speak. Mihm explains, "The monster is of the man-sized radiation-mutated bat persuasion. I generally try to keep my monster images a secret until the film is released simply because the big reveal of the monsters is always my favorite part of my movies. On my website there are some teaser photos of the monster but you really don't see much."

Mihm has also eluded to to the fact that he would like to do his own giant monster film in the future. "I AM looking into eventually making a giant, rampaging monster film but right now, don't have the right idea (or the budget)!"

This should be exiting news for fans, because if anyone could do a giant monster film justice it would be Mihm!

Maybe I should run my script under his nose........?

A shell-shocked ex-soldier transformed by Atomic Waste™ into a revolting monster wreaks havoc at a high-school graduation party in writer/producer/director Christopher R. Mihm's monochromatic tribute to the B-movie flicks of the 1950s. The summer sun is shining and a group of recently graduated teens has taken to the outdoors to celebrate their newfound freedom. Something horrific is afoot in Phantom Lake, though, and as the rampaging beast makes his presence known to the horrified teens, a dedicated scientist and his beautiful graduate student soon realize that they may have just stumbled upon one of the most important scientific discoveries of their lifetime.

From Writer/Director Christopher R. Mihm:

To understand "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and its reason for being, you must first attempt to understand my late father, George Mihm. My father would tell these great stories of spending cold, small-town Minnesota winters in the relative warmth of his local movie house, taking in double features of trashy, B-grade science fiction and horror flicks. For a quarter he'd see double bills with such classics as "Village of the Damned" ("The eyes..." he'd tell me.) and "Them!" ("Giant ants!" he would exclaim.) When I was a kid, my dad would rent these movies repeatedly. We would frequently watch them together although, at the time, I could never quite figure out just what it was my dad saw in these (often) low-grade, barely frightening (by my standards) films.

In the year 2000, at the young age of 51, my father died of stomach cancer. Since then, I've revisited many of these old movies and realized they're just not the same without him there. I miss the stories... like the one about the time he went to the movies against his mother's wishes, saw something so scary he couldn't sleep for a week AND got in trouble for it!

Fellow producer and actor Josh Craig and I have been friends for many years. We've been discussing making our own movie as long as we've known each other. Seeing those old movies again and enjoying their often schlocky dialogue, barely passable camera work and marginal special effects, I started to wonder: "What would happen if Josh and I stopped talking about it and actually made a movie? And not just ANY movie but THIS kind of movie, one that a ten year old version of my dad would approve of?"

That thought soon took over and my obsession began. I parked myself in front of my laptop and "The Monster of Phantom Lake" was born. Soon we were holding auditions and then amazingly, we were shooting! Filmed in glorious black and white, "The Monster of Phantom Lake" was completed in September 2005.

The film was accepted and screened at the Faux Film Festival in Portland, Oregon and the 3rd Annual Flint Film Festival in Flint, Michigan. It was recently accepted to the Twin Cities Underground Film Festival and has played to near sold-out audiences at recent local screenings.
The Monster from Phantom Lake is a great tribute film. There is agreat combination of camp, satire, and b-movie special effects. Anyone who grew up, like I did, watching the monster classics from the 50s will love this one. Kudos to Christopher Mihm for making such a cool monster film as a tribute to his father. - Ken Hulsey
