The Fans Have Spoken: Solo is "an absolute blast to hyperspace!"

I have to admit that I was already geeked up about this movie, but now after reading these reviews that ten year old kid inside me is really loosing it.

From Indie Wire

“Solo: A Stars Wars Story” is earning strong first reactions after the film’s Hollywood premiere on May 10. The film is notorious for changing directors from Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Ron Howard late into production, but it appears the shaky behind-the-scenes drama on “Solo” did not effect what ended up on screen. Even the fears about Alden Ehrenreich, who reportedly needed an acting coach on set to help course correct his performance in the titular role, are no longer needed. Nearly every reaction mentions Ehrenreich as a standout.

“‘Solo’ is really good,” Yahoo’s Kevin Polowy wrote on Twitter. “Fun as hell. It’s a straight intergalactic heist movie, kind of refreshing to see a ‘Star Wars’ movie without a Death Star or the rebellion’s fate at stake. Alden Ehrenreich is super impressive as Han.”

Other cast members earning breakout praise are Donald Glover as Lando and “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who gives a motion capture performance as Lando’s robot sidekick L3.

Star Wars: Leias who are Lukes, Who like Lukes to be Leias

"Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." - Obi-Wan Kenobi

From Movie Web

Last week, two so-called Star Wars fans decided to cut all of the women out of The Last Jedi. And it's brought some interesting reactions from a lot of different people across the Internet. Now, we get some fan art that completely swaps the roles of twin siblings Luke and Leia. Here, Leia becomes the Master Jedi while Luke, looking like an Echo Park hipster in his feminine robes, becomes the lover of gay space pirate Han Solo. The images are already causing a ruckus. But they're pretty harmless for anyone with an open mind about where this franchise can go in the future.

Will we ever see a complete reboot of the original Star Wars with Luke and Leia trading places in some kind of Freaky Friday scenario? That's hugely doubtful. And we kind of already got that with The Force Awakens, as Rey becomes the Jedi Knight and Finn is relegated to being Poe's eye candy (at least in some fans' eyes). But this fan art shows us what that might look like. And while it will rankle some and make others giggle with questionable delight, one thing is undeniable, Leia looks pretty bad ass as a Jedi dressed in black.

In the recent book From a Certain Point of View, which looks at various moments in the official Star Wars canon from different characters' eye level, we learned that Leia was Yoda's favorite. He preferred her over Luke, and that's why he was so reluctant to train the male Skywalker. Jennifer Aberin Johnson has painted what that may have looked like, had Yoda gotten his wish.

There was also an image of Han and Luke kissing, though I try to keep an open mind about things, but that one really creeped me out.

Some genius built a life-size replica of an AT-ST from Star Wars

By Andrew J . Hawkins - The Verge

A short time ago, on a wind-swept plain not that far away, there sat a thing of beauty: a life-size replica of the All Terrain Scout Transport from Return of the Jedi. Made of timber, plastic, and bits of scrap metal, the scout walker stands at a little over 27 feet tall, seats two, and appears to have a functional chin-mounted laser cannon. And by "functional," I mean it moves up and down and makes "pew pew" noises.

If you're like me, you have many questions. How did this get made? Who is the master craftsman behind this? And where can it be found, so I can jump inside and reenact my eight-year-old fantasies of mowing down wave after wave of annoying Ewoks because, let's be honest, the Battle of Endor was some bullshit and there's no way a handful of teddy bears with prehistoric technology could have defeated a squadron of fully armed stormtroopers, not to mention at least four AT-STs with laser cannons and concussion grenade launchers. But I digress.

The replica AT-ST first appeared on Imgur about eight months ago, when a user named Mr. Kernish noticed the Imperial walker from afar and posted a few creepshots. A couple months later, Mr. Kernish "manned up" and asked the mysterious owner for a tour. "I walked onto the propriety [sic] and spoke to the engineer," he wrote. "He didn't wish to be identified so I'll refer to him as Kuat."

Star Wars: Inspiring Change Around the World

From The Walt Disney Company

Citizenship is an important focus of The Walt Disney Company, and the Force is strong with Star Wars: Force for Change—an initiative that empowers people to make a positive impact on the world around them. It’s inspired by Star Wars fans and the countless hours they have dedicated to philanthropy over the past three decades.

In mid-2014, Force for Change launched with its first collaboration with UNICEF and simultaneously kicked off a sweepstakes to win a once-in-a-lifetime walk-on role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Through this, Force for Change helped raise over $4.2 million in support of UNICEF Innovation Labs, which creates sustainable solutions to critical issues facing children around the world and has already helped more than 1.5 million children in more than a dozen countries.

At Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, Force for Change announced a partnership with UNICEF Kid Power, which empowers youth to get active and help others. With support from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, Force for Change has been working closely with the team at US Fund for UNICEF to create programs in support of this innovative new initiative. One such example was this year’s “Art Awakens” campaign to auction off Star Wars-themed works of art by top contemporary artists. Disney also committed $1 million to support UNICEF Kid Power and provide 1 million food packets for malnourished children around the world.

In late 2015, Force for Change announced three new activations. With Code.org, a tutorial called “Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Code” was released featuring Princess Leia, C-3PO, and R2-D2, as well as Rey and BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The online lesson kicked off the third annual global Hour of Code campaign; in it, students learn to write code that allows them to create fun challenges and games using Star Wars characters new and classic. To date almost 200,000 classrooms and millions of individuals have tried the Star Wars tutorial.

In late November, Harrison Ford surprised fans from around the world with the announcement of a new Force for Change-themed sweepstakes in support of 15 causes across the globe. The charities were individually chosen by J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Through this activation, two winners and their guests won a trip to attend the red carpet premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and over $2 million was raised in support of these incredible causes.

Force for Change also kicked off an initiative in support of children’s hospitals across the US and the UK with events focused on bringing joy to kids in challenging situations through activities, games, character and talent appearances, and other surprises from a galaxy far, far away. This includes a unique program called “Master Your Force,” teaching kids to harness their inner strength through meditation and positive thinking. Additionally, children in select hospitals will get special screenings of The Force Awakens. The program continues in 2016 with the goal of expanding to additional territories worldwide.

With a bright future ahead, and new Star Wars stories to be told, Force for Change aims to continue collaborating with noble causes and encouraging others to be Forces for Change in their own community. How will you be a Force for Change?

Police called to sci-fi fair after costumed characters from rival clubs turn to dark side

Police were called to a sci-fi convention after a confrontation between costumed characters from rival clubs.

Trouble flared when members of the Norwich Sci-Fi Club were refused entry to a fair hosted by the Norwich Star Wars Club at the University of East Anglia.

More than a dozen Star Wars and Doctor Who fans, including some in fancy dress, were involved in the confrontation on Sunday after a member of the Norwich Sci-Fi Club attempted to get an autograph from Doctor Who actor Graham Cole.

It is understood the two groups had been involved in a long-running dispute and the hosts had warned their rivals to stay away after comments were posted on Facebook.

Norfolk police confirmed they had been called to reports of an assault.
