Project A-Ko #4 June 1994 Malibu Comics

A-ko Magami, a 16-year-old red-haired, sailor-suited teenage girl who seems to be near invulnerable with superhuman speed and strength, is the heroine of the series and lives in Graviton City, Japan. A-ko is usually friendly, cute and cheerful. She tries to lead a normal life, and spends a lot of time on clothes, a part-time job and romance in the sequels. However, she does have a fiery temper. She also has a large appetite and a tendency to oversleep on school days. She and C-ko are both transfer students to Graviton High, but wear their former school's sailor-style uniform for most of the film. She has an athletic figure and thick red hair that falls past her shoulders. She is dressed in her school uniform (which later became her iconic battle outfit), which is a white middy blouse with a sailor collar, red scarf, black armbands, blue skirt, knee-high white socks, and black shoes; She gains her magical armbands that gives her ultra magical powers. The closing scenes of the original anime slyly indicate that her superhuman abilities stem from her being the child of Superman and Wonder Woman, who are apparently married; the latter is even seen tautening the former's shirt with the distinctive "S" emblem. A-ko's magic superpowers are super strength, super speed and nigh invulnerability; in Final, A-ko can finally breathe in outer space.

An alien space craft crashed into Graviton City, wiping out the entire population and leaving a massive crater where Graviton City is rebuilt. Students A-ko Magami, a perky, fun-loving red-haired, sailor-suited teenage girl, and her best friend C-ko Kotobuki, a bubbly, carefree optimist, enter a new year of school at the all-girls Graviton High School. Although A-ko possesses superhuman speed and strength, she considers herself an average teenager; she mostly worries about getting to school on time, chronically oversleeping her alarm clock each morning. The pair catch the unwanted attention of B-ko Daitokuji, a rich, snobbish, spoiled and brilliant fellow student.

B-ko develops a crush on C-ko, and is determined to win her over. B-ko's attempts to win C-ko over fail and remembering that she was A-ko's rival back in kindergarten, B-ko creates a series of mecha piloted by her team of female followers to attack A-ko each morning. Losing each new and more powerful mecha she creates and dons the "Akagiyama 23", a powered suit that looks like a bikini. B-ko quickly escalates the fight across the school with no restraint.

Trench-coated spy "D" has been monitoring A-ko and C-ko each morning and reporting to a large spacecraft as it approaches Earth. The aliens' conclusion is that they have located a lost princess whom they have been looking for. The aliens finally reach Earth and begin an all-out attack against the Graviton military, which is outmatched by the alien technology. A-ko and B-ko's own fight continues across the big city even as the military and aliens battle. C-ko is abducted in the middle of this confrontation by "D", revealed to be a member of the Lepton Kingdom of Alpha Cygni, an all-female race of aliens. C-ko is their princess.

Witnessing the abduction, A-ko and B-ko set aside their differences. Infiltrating the spaceship, A-ko confronts D and the ship's alcoholic Captain Napolipolita, while B-ko rescues C-ko. B-ko then reneges on the truce and opens fire on A-ko, D and the Captain, destroying the ship's navigation system. The vessel lands, precariously perched on top of the city's Military Command Tower (actually the remains of the previously-crashed ship).

A-ko happily awakens the next morning, sore from the previous day's adventures, and walks with C-ko to school in their new uniforms. The girls pass by a disheveled D and the Captain begging for donations to repair their ship. The film ends with B-ko, ready for yet another fight, smiling as A-ko appears on the horizon.

The Darker Side Of Ultraman The Baddest Of The Bad Showcased In Darkness Heels

I'm always amazed at how Tsuburaya is able to reinvent their Ultraman franchise over and over again in new and creative ways. There is a new "Ultraman 3D" animated series coming to Netflix and now a new line of shows and merchandise centered on ultra colorful villains called "Ultraman: Darkness Heels".

From Crunchyroll:

The darker side of the Ultra Series is about to get its time in the spotlight, thanks to the new Darkness Heels franchise.

The concept plays on the idea of "inviting whispers from the dark," uniting the more interesting and heavily characterized baddies of the Ultraman series — the "heels." The starting lineup consists of Ultraman Belial, Dark Zagi, Evil Tiga, Camearra, and Jugglus Juggler.

The new line kicks off with DARKNESS HEELS WORLD, a live event taking place next month at Tokyo Solamachi. The venue will offer new goods, photo spots, exhibitions, and photo ops with the featured characters. Plus, starting October 1, a 3.6 meter tall Ultraman Belial statue will be on display in the venue's west yard.

DARKNESS HEELS WORLD takes place from October 18-31. There's been no clue as to what will happen for the line after the inaugural event, but it's looking impressive so far.

The Go-Bots Are Returning To Comics In A New Series From IDW

From IDW

IDW Publishing is proud to announce that Tom Scioli, the visionary creator that brought you Transformers vs. G.I. Joe, will unleash his imagination on the wonderful world of Go-Bots! Launching in October, Go-Bots will be the first story to feature classic toy and cartoon characters like Leader-1, Scooter, Turbo, and Cy-Kill’s Renegades in over three decades!

In the new five-issue series, the existence of Go-Bots on Earth has changed humans’ way of life. They chauffeur us around. They protect us from harm. They do the jobs that are too boring or dangerous for us. They fight our wars for us. They are friends for the lonely. The only thing they don’t do is dream for us… but that could change any day now. For a generation, Leader-1 and the Guardians have said that they were here to help us… but as they become more integrated into our society, the question must be asked: Are they here to replace us?

“This is a dream project – I’m writing, drawing, coloring, and hand-lettering this book. It’s a labor of love,” says Scioli. “When these characters were conceived of in the ’80s, the idea of robots with human personalities was science fiction. Now, it’s history. The world of living machines is here – we’re living it. The time is right for Go-Bots!”

“Avant-garde creator Tom Scioli has been pushing the comic book storytelling medium for nearly two decades now and his work on Go-Bots is yet another watershed moment in his career,” says IDW Associate Publisher David Hedgecock. “It is a testament to the strong collaboration between IDW Publishing and Hasbro, that projects like this can exist on licensed properties.”

For information on how to secure copies of the monthly Go-Bots comic book series, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Tom Scioli is a writer and artist who works primarily in the comic book/graphic novel art form. His solo works include American Barbarian, Satan’s Soldier, Mystery Object, and Myth of 8-Opus. He is the co-author of the comic and graphic novel series Godland with Joe Casey, and the co-writer/artist of IDW’s Transformers vs. G.I. Joe.

The Untold Story of the Legendary Green Ranger

From Boom! Studios

BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands announced MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON, an all-new original graphic novel in stores December 2018. Acclaimed writer Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Nightwing), artist Giuseppe Cafaro (Justice League vs Suicide Squad) and special consultant Jason David Frank (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series) present a powerful next chapter for Tommy Oliver, one of the most iconic Power Rangers in history. MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON is an original graphic novel celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise and revealing a powerful, untold chapter in the life of the legendary original Green Ranger.

It’s been a long time since Tommy Oliver has served as a Power Ranger. He’s defeated space witches, brought down evil armies, protected the galaxy, but now Tommy leaves protecting the world to the Power Rangers at Space Patrol Delta. But when his son goes missing, it’s up to Tommy to discover a secret in his past, in order to save his future. Now Tommy will call on all his training, his friends, and maybe even some of his enemies as he sets out on his most important mission: find his son and bring him home.

“Tommy Oliver has been part of the Power Rangers for the past 25 years,” said Jason David Frank, who played Tommy Oliver in the original television series. “We’ve seen him morph into so many different Power Rangers. Now in MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON, we get to see an in-depth story of the life of Tommy Oliver as a Power Ranger and person. We go deeper into the multiple Rangers Tommy has become throughout time- I’m excited for all of you to see how Tommy evolves into the Legendary Power Ranger he is and the legacy he will leave behind forever.

“It’s rare that we’re able to tell stories about pop culture heroes at this critical juncture in their lives—and there’s few who’ve been as big a pop culture phenomenon as Tommy Oliver,” said Kyle Higgins. “As a fan of the original sixth Ranger, it’s an incredible honor for me to explore this untold chapter of Tommy Oliver: Power Ranger.”

“Like almost everyone from my generation, I grew up watching Power Rangers,” said Giuseppe Cafaro. “Every kid has their own favorite Ranger—my favorite has always been Tommy, so it’s amazing to be illustrating this story!”

POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON features a stunning new cover by fan-favorite artist Nick Robles (Euthanauts).

“Tommy Oliver has one of the most fascinating journeys in Power Rangers history—from villain to hero to mentor…but we’ve never seen what happened to him in his later years,” said Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON is about the decisions we make when we fight for the right thing and what we’ll do when that battle becomes personal. Sometimes to save the people you love most, you have to embrace parts of yourself that you thought—and hoped—you’d left behind.”

”For the first time in the graphic novel medium, we are exploring Tommy Oliver in his later years, delving deep into his identity and legacy as a Power Ranger and as a father,” said Brian Casentini, Executive Producer, Power Rangers Franchise for Saban Brands. “We will see him revisit each chapter of his Ranger legacy and past as it collides with his future. Saban Brands is so thrilled to partner with Boom Studios, Kyle Higgins and Jason David Frank to bring this amazing story to life for our global fandom.”

Print copies of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SOUL OF THE DRAGON will be available for sale in December 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the one nearest you), bookstores or at the BOOM!
