Strange Humanoid Sea Creature Filmed Off Huntington Beach
Real Mermaid or Monster?
It looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon was caught swimming off the California coast recently.

A BIZARRE creature sparked terror on the shores after beachgoers failed to identify what was heading their way.
Video footage shows the mysterious incident that occurred over this weekend.
One man, identified as George, was enjoying a day out on Huntington Beach in California, US, when he was faced with an unusual scene.
The clip shows the “human-like” animal as it breaches the surface of the water.
An arm appears to be raised and you can make out what looks like a face too.
“And that is exactly why I never go in the sea,” one admitted.
Another added: “Did the Loch Ness Monster go on holiday?”
And a third claimed: “Mermaid/Merman. Looks part human. But then again, nowadays, who knows?”
Serpent, mermaid or submarine in Grand River?
Strange creatures lurking in area bayous and waterways have made headlines in the Grand Haven Tribune since the latter half of the 1800s. In the 1890s, Tribune Publisher Horace Nichols wrote that having a sea serpent somewhere near a hotel or resort was actually good for business, as it drew in tourists.
The most famous of unidentified serpents or water creatures was the monster of Stearns Bayou, which made a few appearances out front of the old Gun Club near the bridge in August 1909. Several credible witnesses saw the large, glowing, turtle-like creature with a long neck and hippopotamus-like head. The Tribune published four articles concerning it.
What it was — if it ever was — remains a mystery. It never reappeared.
Most sightings of water creatures remain unidentified mysteries. However, one appearance 114 years ago caused quite a stir — until the mystery was solved, of course.
On July 12, 1899, just before noon, Pete Donnally looked out the window of the Grand Haven Tannery and was astonished to see what he described to the Grand Haven Tribune as “a large sea serpent,” swimming rapidly down the main channel of the Grand River, in the distance.
A number of other employees of the tannery gathered at the windows, witnessing the creature as well.
Donnally described the creature’s glimmering eyes, resembling “two big balls of fire,” while others could see great spurts of water shoot from its nostrils. The creature created a visible wake up on the high banks of Lievense Island, in the river.

A Monsterous Bikini Girl Photo Bonanza
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Terence Muncy / Avery Guerra
Just about every heterosexual male around the globe has heard of the "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue". One hundred plus pages of filled with photographs of some of the worlds most beautiful women, dressed in next to nothing, sometimes in their 'birthday suites', photographed against some of the most exotic locations around the globe. Page after page of sun drenched flesh, each photo an erotic fantasy come to life. Pure feminine beauty and sexuality right there in front of you.
This article has nothing to do with any of that.
Well, not in a pure sense anyway. Think of this as a swimsuit issue that one might find on the nightstand of Gomez Addams or possibly Uncle Creepy.
True, all the curves are in the right place. But, unless you like mutant women. These kissers may be more likely to provoke nightmares instead of tropic day-dream fantasies.
Under all this make-up, if you can imagine it, are a fine collection of truly sexy young ladies. I have had the pleasure of talking to actress Melanie Robel on several occasions, and she is rather stunning.
No, I'm afraid this is Director Terence Muncy's idea of a candid photo shoot.....or should I say, a horror movie. In "Bikini Monsters", his latest movie, this is what happens to a group of young lovelies who cross paths with a 'mad scientist' who wants to turn them into mermaids.
Why would any guy want a chick with a fish tail? I mean really, with a tail instead of legs how could you.....um.......do the horizontal mamba?
My God! What kind of a sick, twisted, "Troy McClure" are we talking about here?
Here the film's synopsis:
In a laboratory somewhere along the coast of Florida a scientist is working feverishly on a grisly experiment. Known by the local transients only as the "Beach Bum" he is trying to create his vision of ultimate beauty, a mermaid. But test after test end up in failure, leaving behind a series of mutated abominations. Still, the experiment continues.
At a nearby beach the mutilated body of a man turns up, his female companion, missing. Detective Elizabeth Wayne heads up an investigation to find the killer, her only leads being the body of the murdered man, a single witness so drunkenly asleep that he claims to have neither heard nor observed anything, and a group of strange looking scales found at the scene.
Here is the trailer for "Bikini Monsters" plus some behind-the-scenes shots and promotional posters of "Dr Fishloves" mutated creations.......in sexy swimwear!:
James Guymon Composes Sample Music For Empires Of The Deep
Written By: Ken HulseySources: James Guymon / Jonathan Lawrence / The Empires of the Deep Crew / Undead Backbrain / Avery Guerra
For some time now I have been posting updates for a very ambitious film project from China called "Empires of the Deep." The film, which is being produced under the direction of Jonathan Lawrence with an American and Chinese crew, is the most expensive movie to ever be shot in southern Asia.
Here is the film's synopsis:
For thousands of years, legends of beautiful mermaids have enchanted people from all over the globe. Their fascinating and mysterious world has always captured the imagination of humans. In film history, there hasn’t been a single movie that has uncovered and explored this mystical world. What secrets lurk beneath the depths? And why do beautiful mermaids seduce human men? “Mermaid Island” (.....Empire of the Deep?) is the first underwater fantasy film to unveil and answer these questions.
As you can imagine, such an undertaking has had more than its share of problems. With an international cast and crew there are bound to be communication problems, and from what has been spilling out on the website, Undead Backbrain, it can only be assumed that tensions may be coming to a head.
More on that in a moment.
First off, though, I wanted to touch on some more positive news about the film. It seems that composer James Guymon has been hired to orchestrate some 'sample' music for "Empires of the Deep." Though, Guymon has not been hired, yet, to work on the films final score, his work does give us an idea of what Lawrence and his staff are looking for musically.
Guymon has created a website that features his conceptual music for "Empires" and is presently inviting fan feed-back. Check that out here - http://vergefilms.com/james/mi/mi.html
It's some pretty good stuff I have to tell you!
Now to the "Jerry Springer" style complaining that has surfaced over at the Undead Backbrain website.
It seems that some of the disgruntled crew has chosen Robert Hood's site to air out some of their differences with Lawrence and the producer Jiang Hongyu.
Here are a few choice comments:
"Unfortunately, Jiang, the writer and money man, is pushing the whole project to the brink of destruction, due to his inexperience and by the very poor and dishonest way he is treating everybody, not honoring contracts, etc. "
"Jiang needs to be fired. He is completely irresponsible in constantly trying to force the actors and crew to jeopardize their health and safety by shooting in dangerous locations and conditions, in order to cover up for his mistakes and his lack of movie production knowledge. He is currently driving this entire production into the ground and is risking losing all the talented people he tricked into joining this production through his lies. I too wish to remain anonymous, but I can assure you that I speak from direct experience on set and for all cast and crew."
"....Jiang has got to be Ed Wood incarnate. And if he has his way this ‘would be’ summer blockbuster will be little more than a featured ditty on Mystery Science Theater."
So far, it has only been Lawrence that has posted any replies to these complaints, and he has chosen to take the high road with his comments, "....I think this is a great place (Undead Backbrain) for fans to meet and the crew to vent – When my contract ends I might exercise that luxury as well..."
It is hard to really gauge just how much any of this stuff will have on the finished product. Normally, on just about any set, there is some sort of fighting that takes place behind the scenes that people never hear about, yet quality work still manages to get done in spite of everything.
You really have to know a lot about how the Asian film industry works to get a real feel for this. Asian film productions are done in a different time frame, with different production techniques than American or European films.
Productions are normally 'rushed' with with a real desire to get the film from pre-production to post-production, and ultimately into the theater in as little time as possible.
A fine example of this are Japanese films that go from concept to finished film in a year or less.
In contrast, American and European films can take up to three years to make.
And lets not even get into the whole budget mess, Asian films cost almost nothing to make compared against the price of Hollywood productions.
So, trying to mesh these different concepts together is bound to be a nightmare for everyone involved.
If all this stuff gets worked out, "Empires of the Deep" could be spectacular!
Hey, at least it looks like the music will be good!

"Empires Of The Deep" Filming 'Finally' On Schedule
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Undead Backbrain / Avery Guerra / Press Release
"Empires of the Deep" is without a doubt the most ambitious fantasy film that has ever been attempted in China, so it wouldn't be too surprising to assume that the project would run into a mountain of obstacles ever before filming was slated to begin.
Indeed "Empires" has already had a major casting change, Monica Bellucci replacing the disgruntled Sharon Stone as the Mermaid Queen, and director change, Jonathan Lawrence stepping in for the Frenchman, Pitof.
Due to this turmoil, filming was pushed back to November of 2009, and is now slated to be completed by late March of this year.
Here is a bit from the E-magine Studios press release about the film:
“Jonathan Lawrence is uniquely suited to direct this epic adventure,” said producer Mark Byers. “His previous films integrate visual effects seamlessly into the story instead of treating them like add-ons, and his global experience allows him to interface with the all-Chinese crew without a hitch.”
Written by Jiang Hongyu, and produced by Jiang, Byers, and Harrison Liang, the US $50 million (reports now have the films budget at $100 million) Empire of the Deep is set in ancient Greece and tells the story of a band of Greek sailors who discover a secret underwater kingdom of mermaids, and must join forces to combat a dark evil that threatens both mermaid and human civilizations.
Even though the story is set in the Greek isles, the picture will be shot entirely in China, on sound stages in Beijing, and exotic seaside locations in Fujian and Hainan provinces, making it one of the first Chinese productions based on an entirely Western story.
“It is an honor to be part of this groundbreaking production, and a great experience to work with such a world-class Chinese crew,” said Lawrence. “Mr. Jiang has an extraordinary vision, and I’m excited to bring his epic story to the big screen.”
Produced by Beijing production company E-magine Studios, Empire of the Deep features extensive visual effects that will set it on the level of a Hollywood studio production, further enhancing the picture’s uniqueness in Chinese cinema.
Actress Liang Yanfei, has been cast as the films heroine, or main mermaid as you will, alongside an international cast including Irishman, Tom Archdeacon and Alec Su.
Over the past decade Asian cinema has taken major strides in forming a solid base to compete with Hollywood, and with a good cast, creative creature design, elaborate sets, stunning effects, and a good story to work from, "Empires of the Deep" could end up being China's answer to "Avatar". Though it would be hard to gauge at this point how much, if any impact the film will have on the west, or international cinema markets.
At least, at this point, unless suddenly Jonathan Lawrence pulls out to shoot another American TV movie, or actress Monica Bellucci publicly disagrees with Chinese politics, "Empires" will continue moving along as planned and should finish on schedule. As it stands, that, in upon itself is an incredible accomplishment for a film that has been in a various states of flux since it was first conceived of way back in 2006.
For the early production artwork it is easy to see why visually, "Empires of the Deep" could be spectacular.
Here are a few examples:

Just about all of the horror movies produced this year seem to follow one of two trends. Either they are about a killer Bigfoot, or they are about killer mermaids. Okay, maybe not ALL, but enough to see a definite trend.
There is the American/Chinese co-production "Empires of the Deep", once called "Mermaid Island", Terence Muncy's independent horror, "Bikini Monsters", and now Mary Lambert, the director of "Pet Sematary", is making "Hydrophopia". What do all these films have in common? They all have mermaids in them. Though in the case of "Bikini Monsters", it's some crazed geneticist trying to make mermaids out of bikini models, but it still counts.
In "Hydrophobia", Ling Bai (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) stars as a slain 60s' movie star, who is resurrected by Vodoo, and becomes a man-eating mermaid.
No....really, that is the plot.
Cinematographer Michael Karp explains, "We envision the creature like the first Species, a sexy femme fatale who lures both men and women into the pool, appearing as a sexy vixen at first who then morphs into an Alien like creature with razor sharp piranha teeth capable of opening her mouth as wide as a python to bite a man’s head off!"
Karp has several promo images on his website, including one that looks like it is the cover to a possible comic book adaptation of the film.
Here is the synopsis (also by Karp):
"NICK BIGMAN has a problem. He comes from a long line of surfers; his father was an amateur surfer, his grandfather ROD BIGMAN a surf champion who appeared in 1960’s beach movies like Beach Bongo. Unfortunately, Nick suffers from Hydrophobia, an anxiety disorder that plagues many Americans who suffer from this extreme fear of the water. Nick can’t go near any body of water without breaking into a sweat. If he’s tossed in the ocean or a pool by a bunch of pranksters, he immediately goes into a panic attack. Those who suffer from Hydrophobia have been known to drown in a shallow body of water they could have easily stood up and walked away from, the anxiety’s that intense.
'Hydrophobia' revolves around the ghost of 60’s beach movie starlet KAREN SLATER. When Karen’s controlling Hollywood agent DON BULASKY finds out about her love affair with her BEACH BONGO co-star, ROD BIGMAN (Nick’s grandfather), her agent drowns her in a jealous rage. Overcome with grief DON seeks out the help of a local Jamaican witch doctor to bring his favorite beach movie starlet back to life.
There’s only one problem. While what comes back resembles the beautiful Karen Slater, in voodoo mythology if a person dies a violent death, his or her soul returns as evil incarnate. In Karen’s case, she’s become a flesh-eating astral zombie residing in the pool of her old abandoned Malibu Beach house. Every spring Karen needs to feed on twelve poor souls so she can exist on this earthly plane for another year. And because she’s an astral zombie, Karen can materialize anywhere in the house or pool area where there’s water!
With the help of her keeper, Hollywood agent Bulasky, Karen lures a pair of college kids, who of course decide to throw a huge spring break pool party at her Malibu beach house! Being spring, it’s feeding time again! To complicate matters, the protagonist, Nick, has a fear of the water so if he notices strange occurrences or claims to see weird stuff going on during the mayhem of the pool party, no one’s going to believe him.
As the partygoers are knocked off one by one, Nick and his fun-loving dorm buddy DARYL don’t realize what’s going on – they’re too preoccupied with getting laid! But when the girls (ALEX & CINDY) that Nick & Daryl have their eyes on fall prey to Karen as they wade in the pool, Nick is forced to confront both his Hydrophobia and this flesh-eating creature who was once Karen Slater, the sexy 60’s beach movie starlet Nick’s idolized for years. As Nick’s friends are about to find out in 'Hydrophobia', it’s time to be afraid of the water ... again!"
The whole concept for "Hydrophobia" may seem a little weird, but there are plenty of attractive women here in Hollywood, waiting around pools, ready to bite guys heads off.

Over the past few decades relations between the United States and China have sometimes been tense. There have been moments of turmoil and misunderstandings on both sides of the Pacific, but ultimately things have always worked out because each side really needs the other to survive, politically and financially.
Is it any wonder that a joint American and Chinese fantasy movie project, once called "Mermaid Island", now titled, "Empires of the Deep", would also face it's own share of turmoil, and political incorrectness?
The once touted role of the Mermaid Queen in the film once belonged to none other than acclaimed American actress Sharon Stone, well that is, until she made some public remarks about a major earthquake in China being the result of bad karma inflicted on the country due to its horrible treatment of the Tibetan people.
Needless to say, the actresses' comments didn't sit too well with the Chinese film makers so they said goodbye to Sharon Stone.
In her place comes the very buxom Italian actress Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions) who will take over as the Mermaid Queen alongside Chinese actress Liang Yanfei, Tom Archdeacon and Alec Su.
Also gone is the film's original director, Frenchman, Pitof (aka Jean-Christophe Comar)(Alien: Resurrection, Catwoman), who has now been replaced by Jonathan Lawrence, who's resume is rather short and contains lesser know titles such as the made for TV movie, "Hope for the Holidays".
On the upside, the film's budget has recently been increased from $50 million to $100 million, which will allow for a more wider range of visual effects.
Here is the film's synopsis:
For thousands of years, legends of beautiful mermaids have enchanted people from all over the globe. Their fascinating and mysterious world has always captured the imagination of humans. And why do beautiful mermaids seduce human men? “Mermaid Island” (.....Empire of the Deep?) is the first underwater fantasy film to unveil and answer these questions.
The film promises a good dose of monsters, wizards, beautiful undersea kingdoms and sexy mermaids. Here are a couple of conceptual images from "Empire of the Deep":

Terence Muncy has been scaring up a lot of publicity lately on the beaches of Florida with his latest film, "Bikini Monsters". In case you hadn't caught on yet, the film is about a bunch of 'all-American' girls who get turned into mutants by a crazed biologist with an above-average lust for mermaids.
The film will be ready for a Valentine's Day 2010 premiere.

He also requested that we post some information about some items from Warbranch Productions, that he presently has up for sale, including copies of his prior two films, "Da'Monika!" and "Heathens".

Bikini Monsters Scare Up Some Press In St Petersburg And Tampa - Exclusive New Photos!

We all have our own personal idea of what the girls in Florida are like. A vision of the ultra-hot females that are regulary seen on travel shows, in the pages of men's magazines and in videos sold via late night infomercials. Girls who spend all day on the beach, tanning their bodies, before they run off to wild nightclubs where they flash their huge breasts for drunk horny guys (some of them with video cameras).
Well, director Terence Muncy wants to throw a monkey-wrench into that fantasy with his new film entitled, "Bikini Monsters".
Sure there are ultra-hot girls in bikinis in it, though, they have been turned into blood-thirsty mutants by a crazed scientist with a mermaid fetish.
Hey, they are still ultra-hot.......well, parts of them still are.
Apparently when you are on the beach in either Tampa or St. Petersburg with a bunch of girls in bikinis, who aren't posing for photos or filming a travel video, and are painted green and have fangs, then you tend to get attention, even media attention.
This past week, newspapers in both Tampa and St. Petersburg ran articles about Muncy and his "Bikini Monsters" movie production. (see below)
Lucky thing for Muncy was that he was filming in Florida, instead of here in California. You could walk around Los Angeles with a bunch of crazy looking bikini girls and no one would even notice.
Hey, have you ever been to Venice Beach? I rest my case.
Here are a copy of the articles, plus another exclusive photo from "Bikini Monsters":

It's Bikini Monster Girls Gone Wild!
Written By: Ken HulseyTerence Muncy / Nicolas Cuti / Avery Guerra
I think that this scenario has happened to everyone, you meet a member of the opposite sex, and, well they aren't the most handsome or most beautiful person on Earth, but they have a nice body and a good personality, so you give it a shot. Well, today we have few young ladies whose looks, no amount of personality will help you overlook. They have great bodies, but the fangs and cannibalistic behavior will make you forget all that.
So I'm sure your wondering where I dug up all these ghastly females?
Let me first state that these ladies aren't a bunch of Match.com rejects or anything like that. No, these are the science experiments gone wrong from director Terence Muncy's summer fun movie entitled, "Bikini Monsters."
Now, let this be lesson to all you guys out there, this is what can happen when you try to turn the neighborhood hotties into mermaids. No, really, the scientist in the film has a thing for mermaids and he tries to turn the local gals into fish. Well, half-fish-half-humans.

And here are the photos of the mutated maidens from the film. (No! These are not my ex-girlfriends)
