Much To Do About Lemmings - Useless Information I Learned Today!

 Written By Ken Hulsey

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard the sad tale of the Arctic rodents known for their reputation for mass suicides, supposedly leaping off cliffs to their doom. It’s a confusing sight—adorable little creatures engaging in a life-or-death game of follow-the-leader to their demise. This makes one wonder why these cute little critters would behave in such a way and why a lemming would lead its kin off a cliff in the first place. Such behavior goes against the natural survival instinct that exists in all living beings, including humans. So, what is it about lemmings that leads to this idea of mass suicide?

DC Comics Secretly Cancels MAD Magazine

From Vulture

Venerable joke rag MAD Magazine will be ceasing publication of original content. Blogger Jedidiah Leland reported that a longtime editor broke the news in a private Facebook group, and MAD writer David DeGrand confirmed the story on his personal Twitter. Rather than create new comedy, MAD will recycle old content until their subscription obligation is fulfilled, then potentially shut down altogether. An email from DC Comics sent to freelancers and obtained by Vulture says that Issue 10 will be the last of MAD with original content. While not stating whether the publication would cease entirely, the email confirms that MAD will no longer commission new content for either the print or online versions of MAD, for however long they continue to exist. In the wake of the news, many contributors have been posting farewell tweets to the mag.

So far, DC Comics has made no official statement, but there have been signs of trouble for the eagle-eyed. Editor Allie Goertz was laid off recently and another editor, Dan Telfer, announced his departure on Twitter earlier this week. A source tells Vulture these layoffs are only the tip of the iceberg: The vast majority of the magazine’s staff was quietly let go last week. “They’re basically euthanizing the magazine,” the source says. “They’ll do one more issue with original content and then produce some magazines – I don’t know how many – with repurposed older material. They’re keeping on two designers, an editorial assistant, and a temp.” The source went on: “Very few people even know this in-house even though it happened a full week ago but the feeling among those who do is that MAD is dead.”

However, it appears that not everyone is clear about what’s going on. One freelancer, presented with the news of the end of original content, told Vulture they’d already produced months’ worth of upcoming new content for MAD and had heard that the magazine’s sales and subscriptions were, if anything, on the rise. MAD may be in the middle of DC Comics’ massive restructuring initiative, which has also seen the shuttering of the Vertigo imprint and the departure of several major editors.

Vulture’s initial source said DC had “no plan to issue a press release or even a tweet” about the move to cease original content at MAD. We have reached out to DC and will report back if they have a comment.

President Trump Eats A Baby

Internet Headlines Made Easy

Okay everyone let's learn a few simple tips on how to construct a news headline for a story on Yahoo! or pretty much any other media news website. First you start of with a true statement. Here is an example:

"President Trump Eats A Plate of Baby Back Ribs."

Seems pretty innocent right? Okay, now we need to put a spin on this to make the President look bad. Let's remove a couple of words from that Headline ... Ah, lets remove "Plate", "of", "Back", and "Ribs." Let's see what we have left:

"President Trump Eats A Baby."

Okay now that's the kind of headline that will cause anger in your average Joe. It will also get a tone of people to click on it. See, it's not that hard. Now you know!

A Millenial Reviews: ‘Star Trek’ Is a Blatant, Boring Rip-Off of ‘Star Wars’

This is so funny. A must read!

Set phasers to problematic.

If you follow me on social media then you know how I feel about science (I Fucking Love It). I’ve seen Blackfish six times, twice in 3-D. I regularly share studies about how “they” “discovered” that my liver-crushing alcohol addiction and frequent masturbation habit actually means I’m a genius. I start every sentence of every argument with the phrase “they did a study that proves…” without reading any of the actual study I’m citing. Hell I don’t even read the article most of the time. The real scientific truth is all in the headlines these days. Digital media companies know that you’re busy Uber-ing and Blue Apron-ing your Prince-grieving twenty-something ass all over the place 24 hours a day and you don’t have time to read the boring data involved in these things, so they stuff all the truth in the headline so you can Go-Gurt that knowledge right into your head while razor scootering across the Williamsburg Bridge like a millennial Bon Jovi.

I’m always talking about science because I’m a HUGE nerd. I LOVE Star Wars, and I’m like the only person I know that does. When I walk into the club with my R2-D2 iPhone 6S phone case and my Supreme Leader Snook Chuck Taylors on, they let me into the VIP room where I drink from a limited edition Dom Perignon bottle shaped like C-3PO’s head. What I’m trying to say is that I’m a total loser and an outcast. I get what it’s like to feel alone because I’ve been bravely declaring my love of things like Star Wars and comic books since 2012, when I discovered them. 2012 was a harrowing year, I’d wake up every day as a scared 6-foot-tall 25 year old adult man and I’d never know if some jocks were going to break into my apartment and beat me up for liking the most popular cultural symbols of all time. People don’t understand how brave I am. I’ve tried strapping a GoPro to my head and filming myself walking around so you guys can see how oppressed I am on a daily basis but every time I do this I just end up getting laid and accidentally making POV porn. The struggle is real.
