WRITER CULLEN BUNN HEADLINES CREATIVE TEAM FOR ALL-NEW VOLTRON: FROM THE ASHES COMIC BOOK SERIES
From Dynamite Entertainment
Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce the return of the Voltron Force in the pages of Voltron: From the Ashes, an all-new six-issue miniseries written by Cullen Bunn (Deadpool, Captain America) and illustrated by Blacky Shepherd (3 Days in Darkness). Set two hundred years after the events of Dynamite's previous Voltron series, the miniseries will introduce a new team to pilot the five lions that form the Defender of the Universe. The debut issue will launch in September 2015 and feature cover artwork from acclaimed Transformers artist Alex Milne.
Writer Cullen Bunn says, "You don't grow up in the day and age of my childhood without developing a deep and abiding love for Voltron, so writing the adventures of such an iconic giant robot is a real thrill and a treat. With this story, I hope to show a couple of different sides of Voltron, one vibrant and exciting like the old cartoons, and one a little more dark and even frightening. This dichotomy should be a lot of fun for readers and allow me to explore different sides of the characters involved. For me, Voltron has this mythic quality that I really want to delve into, and I'm excited to see what fans think of my contribution to the Voltron legend!"
Voltron: Defender of the Universe launched as a cartoon series in the United States in 1984, quickly rising to become a top-rated animated series. Its premise involves a team of brave space explorers chosen to pilot five robot lions that combine into the mighty metallic hero Voltron, and their fight to protect the planet Arus, ruled by Princess Allura, from the evil King Zarkon on Planet Doom and his monstrous Robeasts. The series celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2014.
Voltron: From the Ashes #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' July Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, corresponding to items shipping in September 2015. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Voltron: From the Ashes with their local comic book retailers. Voltron: From the Ashes will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

Robotech Returns In Crossover With Voltron! Dynamite Partners with DC Entertainment, World Events Productions, and Harmony Gold
From Dynamite Entertainment
Dynamite Entertainment proudly announces that they have acquired the rights to publish comic books based on the beloved science fiction anime, Robotech®. In a unique sub-licensing arrangement with DC Entertainment and with the Harmony Gold USA, Dynamite Entertainment will publish a new series beginning with a Robotech / Voltron crossover event. This crossover marks the first time uniting the popular Robotech cast with the five lions of Voltron, a fan-favorite World Events Production property.
The Robotech series debuted in 1985, an adaptation combining concepts from three Japanese anime series (Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Super Dimension Century Southern Cross) into a new, cohesive narrative. It followed three generations of Earth soldiers who salvaged and repurposed alien technology in combat against consecutive extraterrestrial invasions, and was animated by the renowned animation studio Tatsunoko Production Co.
Voltron, based on the story of five robotic lions piloted by a team of brave space explorers that combine to form a mighty metallic hero, launched in the U.S. in September of 1984 and quickly became a #1 rated animated series that will celebrate its 30th Anniversary in 2014.
"Robotech and Voltron are two of the most recognizable anime series that defined '80s pop culture," says Tommy Yune, creative director at Harmony Gold and mastermind behind the upcoming crossover. "Both franchises have endured in their popularity today and fans have long speculated of an epic crossover between the universes. The opportunity to do so is an honor, and it's a welcome challenge to construct a storyline that works well with key characters on both sides. Most important of all, it's going to be a lot of fun with plenty of surprises."
"Robotech is one of the finest intellectual properties ever to come out of Japan, and we are so very fortunate to be able to contribute to its legacy of thrilling science fiction action and drama," says Nick Barrucci, CEO/Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment. "We're also thankful to have such great partners on the Robotech journey, DC Comics and Harmony Gold, and joining us in this incredible first-ever crossover with Classic Media's Voltron. We've published Voltron for years, and this is definitely rewarding to place the two fan-favorite universes together."
"Skyscraper-sized robots and city-crushing monsters are no strangers to the Dynamite gang, thanks to our fine experience with the Voltron license," adds Barrucci. "We've been the proud home to Voltron since 2011, and I think our talented creators and editorial staff really balanced the science fiction and space fantasy elements of that franchise with the human story of its pilots. We're very excited to continue the adventures of the Five Lions and the Voltron Force pilots as part of the crossover penned by Tommy Yune, and recapture the very best qualities of our previous Voltron series in this exciting new venture. Robotech / Voltron is a fan's dream, one we're thrilled to add to our line of comics!"
The new Robotech / Voltron team-up adds additional content to Dynamite's existing Voltron projects, published as two series thus far and expanding the mythos licensed from World Events Productions. The first-ever pairing of these two giant animated properties is expected to attract huge media and fan attention in time for Voltron's 30th Anniversary. A new Robotech series will follow in the wake of the crossover.
The appreciation for the original Robotech television series, its comic spin-offs, and expansive universe of additional content runs deep at Dynamite, as evidenced by the passionate reflections of Joe Rybandt, the company's Senior Editor. "Every day after school, I would watch Robotech and I loved it. LOVED IT. Probably for a lot of the same reasons that I loved Claremont's Uncanny X-Men, in that it was soap opera mixed with incredible action and excitement. Also, it was my first introduction to episodic television starring giant robots and, y'know, GIANT ROBOTS. I've gone back to the show every now and again, and still find it a rewarding experience, filled with great characters and amazing design. And now, here I sit, getting ready to set a new course with the comics."

Dynamite Announces The Return Of VOLTRON To Comics
Source: Dynamite EntertainmentThis December, the pop culture phenomenon known as Voltron is returning to a comic book store near you! Under a series of amazing covers by master painter Alex Ross, and written by Dynamite's own up and coming writer Brandon Thomas, the series is destined to be a sure fire hit! Dynamite will present all new adventures of the classic robot super-hero! Originally released in 1984, Voltron: Defender of the Universe quickly skyrocketed to be the number one children's program in the United States. Merchandising rapidly followed and more than 100 different Voltron products were on shelves around the world.
"Voltron is one of the most well-known cartoons of all-time," says Dynamite President Nick Barrucci. "Classic Media and World Events Productions are working with a wide-range of licensing partners to ensure Voltron's success. With the upcoming cartoon and a feature film in the works, now is the perfect time to launch a Voltron comic book for a new era, which will feature amazing Alex Ross covers! Our acquisition of this incredible brand is another step in Dynamite's exciting growth and builds on the ongoing success of our line."
"I grew up loving the big robots from Japan," says legendary artist Alex Ross. "And Voltron is one of the coolest-looking of them!"
Voltron featured a team of five young pilots commanding five robot lions which could be combined to form Voltron. In an undefined future era, the Voltron Force was in charge of protecting the planet Arus (ruled by Princess Allura) from the evil King Zarkon (from planet Doom), his son Lotor, and the witch Haggar, who would create huge Robeasts to terrorize the people of Arus.
"We've been given a lot of latitude by our partners at Classic Media and World Events," said Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt. "Nothing is off the table and if you've followed our releases featuring pop culture icons, you know that we take the best and add the new and create something unique and special on its own. Expect no different from Voltron."
Founded in 1982 to meet the ever-growing need for the development of quality television entertainment, World Events Productions has continued to be a leader in technological innovation and programming excellence ever since. Headquartered in St. Louis, WEP has been on the cutting-edge of top quality entertainment production and international distribution.
World Events' more recent program, Voltron: The Third Dimension, was the first full 3D CGI series produced solely in the United States. However, classic Lion Force Voltron remains the general favorite among fans. And fans have much more to look forward to in the future as the Voltron Universe continues to expand.
Stay tuned for more news on Voltron!

The First Look - Voltron Movie Concept Art
Written By: Ken HulseySources: JoBlo / Avery Guerra
It seems like we have been being teased about a live-action "Voltron" movie now for about a decade. Well, actually since 2008 to be precise, but it has seemed like forever.
Now, finally, the thing is going to be made by Atlas Entertainment, who took over the project from Fox-based New Regency, who went as far as to hire a director for the film (Max Makowski) then backed away from the project. Atlas is apparently kicking things into high gear on this one. Reportedly the studio has hired Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the screenplay for "Voltron" and had Swedish artist Andree Wallin produce three, very cool looking, pieces of concept art. One of which is above.
Since the film is still in it's infancy there isn't much else to report at this point, unlike New Regency, Atlas hasn't rushed out to find a director for "Voltron" before they have all their ducks in a row.
We can only hope that the studio takes this one seriously, and from the concept art it looks like they very well might, so that they don't try and hand us some more of the same old "Transformers" crap.

Max Makowski May Be Ready To Take On Voltron
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Variety / Avery Guerra
The scribe of the new movie adaptation of "Hawaii Five-O", Max Makowski, is presently in talks to direct the often plagued live-action "Voltron" movie. New Regency was able to attract the director after they recently put the giant robot project into turnaround, opting to focus on producing more high-brow fare.
Presently Makowski has a full plate of features on hand. Besides "Hawaii Five-O", the director is scheduled to begin production on "Kung Fu" for Warner Bros and an American redo of Japanese pic "Shinobi" at Universal.
With Makowski presently working on three other features besides "Voltron" it will be interesting to see just how much time the director will be able to dedicate to the production.

As Soon As The Checks Clear Voltron Will Begin
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Quiet Earth / Avery Guerra
According to a recent article in Variety, Fox-based New Regency has stepped in to help raise the funds to get the "Voltron" movie produced. The buzz is that the production company wants to use a lot of cost-cutting measures employed in the movie, "300", which means fans should get ready for tons of "blue screen" shots and CGI.
The article also mentioned a few tid-bits about the films plot, which was penned by Justin Marks. "Voltron is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders."
Well....lets just say the jury is still out on that one.....could be cool.....could be like Transformers...lets keep our fingers crossed.
