Dynamite announces the next epic chapter in the comic book chronicles of the legendary rock band, KISS: Zombies!

After all, what can possibly happen after "The End" than a full-blown zombie apocalypse? That is the screwed up status quo that writer Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye, Star Wars) and artist Rodney Buchemi (Death of Hawkman) will tackle in this new limited series. Assisted on colors and letters by Dijjo Lima (Assassin's Creed, Doc Savage) and Troy Peteri (Amazing Spider-Man, Witchblade).

Picking up decades after the fall of civilization, humans are now an endangered species isolated to strongholds such as the central New Detroit. These undead are attracted to sound, so music and all related iconography have been banned. Especially that of the greatest band in history. However, a group of teenagers are not going to live this way and set out on a quest to track down KISS! Who may ultimately be the ultimate weapon to turn the tide against the zombies! Sacks has described the series as a cocktail of Land of the Dead, A Quiet Place, Seven Samurai and even Footloose!

This marks the first comic book work for Sacks outside of Marvel, where he's expanded the "Old Man" franchise to Hawkeye and Star-Lord to much critical and fan acclaim. He's got history with the band though, through his previous career as a journalist.

"In my two and a half decades as an entertainment journalist, one of my most proud achievements was interviewing Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley for a 40th anniversary retrospective of KISS," said writer Ethan Sacks. "After all, this was a band that had provided the soundtrack for much of my life, and their eerie black and white makeup aesthetic seared itself in my brain during my childhood when I first spied those album covers in an older cousin's record collection. So, all these years later, I jumped at the chance to write a KISS comic. Then my editor, Kevin Ketner, went and threw in zombies too. Allowing a George Romero uber-fan to pen a book about the undead is like waving slivers of brain in front of an actual zombie."

"It's great to be back with KISS. The first series I did was a sensational experience," said artist Rodney Buchemi. "Working on Ethan's scripts has been great fun on every page and every panel. And of course, drawing zombies is fun!"

In 1978, there were two things on the minds of boys ages 5 to 16. OK, maybe three. They were KISS, "Star Wars," and girls. You pick the order they were in for you personally. I was 6, so girls really hadn't figured into the equation yet.

Girls were on boys' minds for the obvious reasons. "Star Wars" was popular because it had just been released the year before and blew everyone away with its groundbreaking, never-before-seen special effects and imagery. After only being around since 1973, KISS was the hottest band in the world because of their shockingly explosive on-stage spectacle and look. They had already released several best-selling studio, live, and solo albums. They had t-shirts, stickers, belt buckles, and everything else you can think of with their logo and likenesses plastered on them. The band even had a comic book that featured the members as superheroes that was published through Marvel Comics.

Their manager, Bill Aucoin, could only see one other area KISS could move into that hadn't been explored yet. The band needed to make a movie. And not just any movie: a movie that put the band into the status of superheroes they were raised to in their comic book.

KISS needed to be seen as superheroes each with individual powers that reflected their different personae. Singer/guitarist Paul Stanley (the Starchild) could control and read minds. Singer/bassist Gene Simmons (the Demon) had super strength and could breathe fire. He also had a reverberating voice that commanded people listen to him and animal-like growls. Singer/lead guitarist Ace Frehley (the Spaceman) could shoot lasers and teleport. Drummer/singer Peter Criss (the Catman) had superhuman agility and leaping powers.

Horror director Gordon Hessler helmed "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park." He had worked on several films with Vincent Price and on "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour." There was the monster movie element Gene Simmons would be happy about. The film was produced by Hanna-Barbera, which probably gave manager Aucoin a feeling of comfort that it would be kid-friendly and made to appeal to that demographic. Hanna-Barbera was known for hit shows like "Scooby-Doo," "The Jetsons," and "Johnny Quest." "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" debuted on October 28, 1978.

Kiss And Van Halen Provide The Wolfman's Howl

Vocalist and bass player, Gene Simmons, as made a mountain of money, and scored more tail than any of us could ever dream of, portraying his alter ego, the "Demon", as a member of the classic rock band "Kiss".

Likewise, David Lee Roth, has made a ton of money, and scored his own fair share of 'lovin', being.....well......."Diamond Dave" of Van Halen fame.

You may be wondering, what in the hell, these two classic rockers from my generation have to do with the upcoming remake of "The Wofman?"

Wait, I'll tell you.

When director Joe Johnston was looking for just the right sound for the Wolfman's signature 'howl', he knew just where to go........classic hard rock.

Actually, the idea didn't come to the film maker right away. First there were opera singers and animal impersonators. All of which, left the production team, very unimpressed.

Their sounds where, well a bit too cliche. Johnston know he needed something different, so near the end of the process Simmons and Roth were brought in to give it their best shot.

"We didn't get a lot from our research in what's been done before. We were looking for this great pure tone, we knew we were going to process it and overlay elements but we wanted that great foundation, Johnston remarked.

"We tried Gene Simmons and one of Gene Simmons' howls is in the movie. I don't think Gene Simmons would recognise it, but it's in there. We had David Lee Roth come in and do a few howls.

"It was great. These guys, they're not only singers - they're comedians. Hilarious sessions. You can imagine Gene Simmons and David Lee Roth in there howling with the picture on the screen. And they would do it, crack a few jokes, and try it again."

"Gene Simmons and David Lee Roth were pretty near the end of the process. By then we knew what we were looking for, we were homing in on it. And their stuff became the most useful stuff that we did."

"I don't think they would recognise it after what we've done to it because we've digitally processed it and added cool overtones and all that stuff."

"We were basically just looking for a wolf howl you'd never heard before. What we realised is that everybody in the audience knows what a wolfman sounds like. Even if it's from their imagination, it's all pretty much the same thing. "

"We just wanted our howl to be the best version of that howl. And I think we've come up with something that's definitely spine-tingling, and at the same time it's familiar enough that the audience is going to recognise it - it's what they expect, with enhancements."

Having his voice used as one of the vocalizations for "The Wolfman" should come as a great honor to Simmons, who has been a life-long horror and monster movie fan.

KISS Celebrates 35 Years In Music With A Sonic Boom

It may be hard to believe, but the iconic hard-rockers, "KISS", a band that many have written off as a novelty act, are still making music after 35 years. That's right! 35 years! To mark this hefty milestone, the band has released it's first studio album in nearly decade entitled "Sonic Boom."



"Sonic Boom" reportedly hearkens back to the classic sound that the band produced back in it's early years, way back in the 1970s. Though the bands members, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, are excited about the album, they initially had reservations about stepping into the studio again after so many years.

"Gene and Paul were a little ambivalent about doing a record," says guitarist Tommy Thayer, "but the live shows were going great, and we thought it would be cool to do something to acknowledge our growing resurgence of fans."

"We've got so many teenagers coming to our gigs now," adds Simmons, "as well as people in their 40s and 50s and we wanted to give them all some classic Kiss."

"This is about four guys playing and writing their own songs, and not worrying about fads or fashion or what's hip, " comments Simmons. " This is about pure rock and roll."

'We didn't listen'

"There was no pressure of outside influences, "says Thayer.

"We wrote songs we felt great about, we didn't listen to management or agents, and no one was trying to write a hit single or a ballad."



KISS originally formed in New York city in 1973 from the ashes of the band "Wicked Lester" which included present day band members Simmons and Stanley, plus former drummer Peter Criss. Guitarist Ace Frehley joined the band after responding to an add in Rolling Stone and the rest is Rock and Roll history.

Though KISS's music was often times underrated, it was their live show theatrics that brought them fame and hordes of KISS Army members (the name of the band's fan club).

"Kiss started as a dream of ours," explains Simmons, who also doubles as a reality television star along with his family on "Gene Simmons Family Jewels".

"All the bands we ever saw on stage played the hits we wanted to hear, but were devastatingly poor in their visual live performance."

"We made Kiss, with our look, all the pyrotechnics of our live show, the epitome of everything we wanted from a band," Simmons adds.

The band even made their own television movie, with the help of cartoon makers Hanna-Barbera, called "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park". The film featured several live performances and each member of the group was given super-hero powers through a magical talisman, in which they used to fight monsters and other baddies. Though the ratings for the film, were decent, it was truly an awful affair.

Though Criss and Frehley left the band in the early 80s, KISS continued to draw fans and release albums. In the mid-1990s the duo once again joined the group for a new album, "Psycho Circus" and a reunion tour, then a farewell tour, which to this date has never stopped to say 'farewell'.

With Simmons and Stanley both pushing 60, KISS continues to 'Rock-and-Roll All Night'.

Simmons concludes, "I think we've released one of the best records of our career."

The Surprise Hit Detroit Metal City May Be Heading To The US

The surprise Japanese hit comedy film, "Detroit Metal City", is presently being sought after for a remake by both American and Chinese film companies. The movie that is based on a popular manga by Kiminori Wakasugi has so far crossed over ¥2 billion at the Japanese box office in just three weeks.

"Detroit Metal City" stars Kenichi Matsuyama (Death Note) as a mild-mannered street musician with a taste for Swedish pop, but whose alter ego is the intense death metal vocalist Johannes Klauser II.

It should also be noted that "Metal City" also stars bass player and vocalist, Gene Simmons, from the legendary rock band KISS, whos song "Detroit Rock City", was the inspiration for the title of the original manga. This, of course, is not too surprising due to the bands huge cult following in Japan since the band first formed in the early 1970s'.
