 Written By Ken Hulsey

Growing up in the vibrant 1970s, one of my favorite childhood memories is the time my family would huddle around the television on Sunday evenings for a delightful dose of wonder—The Wonderful World of Disney. For almost 40 years, this magical program served as a treasure trove of Disney’s beloved documentaries, enchanting films, original series, and, of course, the classic cartoon shorts that we all eagerly anticipated.

Star Wars Live-Action Shows - Lucasfilm's New Strategy Revealed | Galactic SEO

Source - IMDB / EpicStream

After receiving mixed fan reviews for some of their Star Wars live-action shows on Disney+, Lucasfilm is reportedly changing its release strategy for the platform's upcoming titles. Since the streaming service launched in 2019, the studio has produced multiple Star Wars live-action shows with varying results - while some achieved major success, others received disappointing reviews.

The recent cancellation of The Acolyte and the absence of updates on other Star Wars live-action shows have sparked speculation among fans that Lucasfilm may be scaling back its development of this type of project.

Rewritten sentence: Lucasfilm insider Daniel Richtman reports that starting in 2025, the company plans to limit its annual Star Wars live-action series on Disney+ to just one per year, down from the current unspecified number.

From Dynamite Entertainment

Dynamite's delightful deluge of hotly anticipated Disney comic books continues this March with a reprint of the highly sought after first self-titled Darkwing Duck comic with a special facsimile edition.

Featuring the writing and art of John Blair Moore, alongside inker George Wildman, colorist Carl Gafford, and legendary letterer Gaspar Saladino, this release originally came out in 1991. Disney Darkwing Duck #1 was released as part of the then Disney Comics dedicated publishing outfit that launched in 1990.

Darkwing Duck is the terror that flaps in the night — and he’s working overtime to keep the city of St. Canard safe! But if there’s one thing Drake Mallard wants, it’s to face off against a really big villain. Enter Taurus Bulba, an oversized criminal who’s planning to steal the mysterious weapon called the Ramrod from a heavily armed train. Darkwing has one chance to foil Bulba’s plans — and whether his new pal, Launchpad McQuack, will be a help or a hindrance is anyone’s guess.

Now over 30 years later, fans of all ages can get their hands on this hard to track down comic! Like countless other comics featuring the timeless characters and stories from the Disney library, collectors all around the world are after this beloved series. Dynamite is excited to give the chance for it to make its way into the collections of those who have been searching for years, and young fans who have never experienced the adventures of Drake Mallard before.

Cartoonist John Blair Moore was perhaps best known for his prolific contributions to the Disney library, across both the US Disney Comics line and Danish publisher Egmont which handled the massively popular Disney comics stories across Europe.

Get Up Off Your Butts And Go See "Solo: A Star Wars Story"!!!

As I am preparing to see "Solo" a second time, it has come to my attention that almost all of you haven't seen it for the first time yet, which is a damn shame. Look I understand your desire to punish Disney for that whole "Last Jedi" fiasco, but trust me here "Solo" is a great movie and you will love it.

From We Got This Covered

As you surely know, Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Alden Ehrenreich has made a deal with Lucasfilm to portray everyone’s favorite scruffy-looking nerf herder in at least two more movies. Whether he gets the chance to do so or not though depends mostly on how the film performs at the box office, and in that regard, things aren’t going very well right now.

We heard earlier today that the Anthology pic only managed to pull in $83.3 million on this side of the pond – not to mention it bombed in China, too – which is tremendously disappointing and way under expectations. It’s the first true flop for Lucasfilm and has no doubt thrown those sequel plans into question.

But if there’s one person who’s not letting the numbers get him down, it’s Ron Howard. Taking to Twitter earlier today, the director found a silver lining in the situation, saying that though it didn’t quite soar as high as the studio hoped, Solo was still a personal best for him in terms of openings.

As for why exactly the pic did so poorly, well, when you combine the divisive reviews and production troubles, plus the fact that many people weren’t interested in seeing anyone else other than Harrison Ford portray the titular character in the first place, it isn’t exactly surprising that Solo: A Star Wars Story bombed at the box office.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that Disney is perilously close to devaluing the idea of a Star Wars event movie if they’re going to keep up their annual release schedule. Sure, the last couple have been great, but there’s a serious chance of audience fatigue if we hit the mid 2020s and we’ve had 7 or 8 movies in as many years. Even releasing Solo so hot on the heels of The Last Jedi feels a bit cheap. And judging by the box office numbers, that’s a sentiment that many share.

Here is my take on Solo (Again):

By Ken Hulsey

Disney is way better at making Star Wars prequels than sequels.

Let's just cut to the chase, Solo is a really, really, really good movie. I absolutely loved it. It was just the thing I personally needed to wipe the awful memories of "The Last Jedi" from my dorky brain. It is an all-around solid movie with a great story, acting and effects. It also contains enough plot twists and a special cameo that I really want to talk at length about, but can't in fear of ruining the movie for you, to make the movie highly entertaining.

Here is the bottom line, Alden Ehrenreich was really believable as Han Solo. This is of course the most important aspect that makes "Solo" as good a movie as it is. Ehrenreich owned the role and put his own unique take on it. He captured enough of Harrison Ford's mannerisms to effectively portray the character without making his performance an over exaggerated impression. It was very easy for me to accept Ehrenreich as Han Solo and by the end of the film I was completely sold and am now quite looking forward to the future installments with him portraying one of my favorite movie characters.

The rest of the cast was excellent from Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke (Just try to keep your eyes off her ... holy smokes) to much talked about Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Glover doesn't steal the show, which is actually a good thing, but ads a whole new level of charm and wit to the suave Calrissian.

Visually "Solo" is an amazing feast for the eyes. I marveled at just how good the special effects were. Star Wars films have always been a showcase for effects and I have to say that this movie looked as real as real could be. This movie will be able to stand the test of time much better than the prequel films, which in my opinion, are starting to look very cartoonish as time passes.

Here's where I rank Solo in the pecking order of Star Wars films. I would honestly put it behind "Return of the Jedi" and in front of "The Force Awakens". Okay so here we go:

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Rogue One
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Solo
6. The Force Awakens
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. Attack of the Clones
9. The Phantom Menace
10 ... Those Ewok movies
11. The Holiday Special
12. ... Star Wars toy commercials
13. The Last Jedi

Actually you could insert anything Star Wars related between twelve and thirteen, which shows just how much I loath "The Last Jedi."

Obi-Wan Star Wars spin-off movie could be on the cards

The Scottish actor is totally up for an Obi-Wan anthology series - and he may or may not already have talked to Disney about it...

Sarah Doran - RadioTimes

We briefly heard his dulcet tones in Rey's vision in Star Wars Episode VII but could Ewan McGregor make a full-bodied return to the franchise?

He certainly thinks so, though maybe not in the upcoming Episode VIII, but rather in another of the spin-off anthology films. The fans really want an Obi-Wan movie after all.

"I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one" said McGregor.

Buzzfeed shared the new clip which will be in “The Secrets Of The Force Awakens” documentary. This documentary will be over 70 minutes long looking at how the big budget movie was made.

J.J. Abrams explained that they wanted to find an actress with a lot of range, but also someone that hasn’t been heard of before. Abrams said they saw a lot of good actresses, but Daisy Ridley was the one that was perfect for the role of Rey.

Star Wars-Themed Lands Coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts

From PR Newswire

The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced to an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., allowing Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away.

Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney's largest single themed land expansions ever at 14 acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

"I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars," said Iger. "We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance."

These authentic lands will have two signature attractions. Along with the thrilling battle experience, another attraction puts guests behind the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, as they take on a customized secret mission.

Iger also shared concept images of the Star Wars-themed lands, giving fans a glimpse at what is to come for Disney parks.

The partnership between Disney and Lucasfilm dates back to 1987, when the successful Star Tours attraction, inspired by George Lucas's legendary Star Wars film series, opened at Disneyland. The attraction was then redesigned, emerging as "Star Tours – The Adventures Continue" in 2011 and featuring more than 50 different story outcomes and the possibility to visit five different planets.

For 60 years, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has been delighting millions of people with fantastic storytelling, exceptional entertainment and extraordinary experiences, creating places where guests can make life-long memories with their friends and families. This announcement marks an unprecedented time of growth with exciting developments happening around the world – from Disneyland Resort's Diamond Celebration to the anticipated opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in China.

New ‘Force Awakens’ Concept Art Really Makes It Look Like One ‘Star Wars’ Character Will Make A Comback

From The Inquisitr

Outside of the Episode VII cast and crew, nobody’s quite certain who or what is going to show up in the next Star Wars movie. New concept art that’s supposedly leaked from the film, though, points to the return of one major character in The Force Awakens, and it’s the sort of resurrection that could turn fans’ expectations for the next trilogy upside down.

By now, two things should go without saying for this kind of post. First, of course, is that this is all conjecture, with occasionally unreliable outlets posting supposed leaks from even more unreliable sources. Second, which should be even more obvious, is that you should stop reading right about now if you want to roll into The Force Awakens spoiler-free.

Those things said, the last few days have seen an uptick in reports that a major Star Wars character was going to make a surprise return in Episode VII. Namely, one Darth Vader. Last week, a selfie from Warwick Davis showed the diminutive actor in front of what appeared to be a Darth Vader costume on set, kicking off yet another round of speculation that Vader would be appearing in some form or another in The Force Awakens.

View Obscura Celebrates It's One Year Anniversary!

What a year it has been!

Written By Ken Hulsey

It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the doors of Monster Island News' online store, known as View Obscura, opened its doors in a virtual sense. As expected sales were slow at first but by the end of the year business was sailing along briskly. What had begun as a showcase for my personal photography and art prints quickly expanded into a full-fledged comic book and antique store, in fact the store grew so fast that I could hardly believe it.

As the year came to a close View Obscura housed almost 600 individual items for sale and of this posting there were at least twice as many items waiting to be listed, so if you don't see the item you want, don't worry, it will be there soon.

We are big in the Bronze Age!

Though we carry comic books that date back to the 1940s, it is the era known as "The Bronze Age" (1970-1979) that account for about 60% of our total sales. This, in my opinion, is proof positive that this era of comics is coming into its own with the fan base ... and that they are just damn good comics.

Gone in a Flash!

Of our total comic book sales, “The Flash” led the way. To be honest it has been a bit difficult to keep up with the demand for these books, though we have managed to do exactly that.

Other top sellers include:

Green Lantern

Amazing Spider-Man

Action Comics

Avengers

Justice League

Uncanny X-Men

Spawn

Wonder Woman

Captain America

Iron Man

This Summer Godzilla Was King!

As expected, due to this summer's blockbuster release of "Godzilla", our exclusive "Godzilla movie poster" was a big seller.

The one thing that we learned this year was that you could never underestimate the power of "Sexy". Our "Bettie Page Poster Print" was our number one selling item overall. Overall, just about all of our pin-up art in stock sold very well, which speaks for itself. Following in a close second was our "Johnny Cash Poster Print." I guess that there are a lot of you out there that like both pin-ups and classic country music ... which makes you one of my kind of people.

Star Wars, those crazy ... Star Wars

When it comes to our vintage toy section, I just had to sing along with Bill Murray from SNL back in the day. Star Wars toys sold very well along with Godzilla items and our Barbie and Disney dolls.

Our Movie Memorabilia section has been growing steadily all year with new original movie stills, lobby cards, and movie posters regularly added.

The newest section of our store is "The Museum Collection" and it will be growing even larger in the year to come as we add more antiques with historical flair. Many rare items are to be the feature in our queue, so if you are in the market for rare items, you are going to love this section of our store!

To everyone who took the time to shop with us over the past year, I personally thank you. We have really taken pleasure in serving you in the best way we possibly can. We take great pride in making sure that each item shipped from our store is packed securely so that when it arrives to you it will be in perfect condition. Additionally we strive to get each item out ASAP, so that you can have your item in a timely manner. Our customers, a great compliment, have called us “the best shipper on Etsy” and we accept this honor with a lot of pride.

Here is some of the feedback we have gotten from our great customers:

• "The packaging was in perfect condition and it arrived just in time! Thank you for a great first purchase experience." - Kartiki Sharma

• "Products came super fast, in perfect condition and packaged up great! thank you." - Erin Cook

• "Fantastic service! great communication, fast delivery, and item arrived in great condition....perfect seller! Thank you :-) " - Fossil Mummy

• "A great price and it's in great condition! amazing shop!.. Great seller!.. thanks again!" - Sterling Springs

Most of all I want to thank God, without whom none of this would have been possible. Over the past year, Terri and I have blessed in so many ways and we are truly thankful for these blessings.

'Chronicle' filmmaker Josh Trank directing 'Star Wars' spin-off film

From Entertainment Weekly

Man, this is one busy galaxy …

While J.J. Abrams toils at Episode VII, launching a whole new trilogy of Star Wars films set three decades after the fall of the Empire and Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, two other spin-off movies are also in the works.

High-level sources have previously told EW that one will be a young Han Solo story, and the other will focus on the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Godzilla filmmaker Gareth Edwards is directing one, and now we know who will be handling the other — Chronicle director Josh Trank

We just don’t know who is doing which — or if the deal has been altered further and we’ll be getting stories from totally new characters in the Star Wars universe.

What do know Edwards will be doing the first one, due in theater Dec. 16, 2016, and scripted by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli).

Trank will be busy for the foreseeable future tackling a new version of The Fantastic Four.

Star Wars Episode 7: Carrie Fisher 'confirms' return

From The Guardian

The three iconic actors at the centre of the original Star Wars trilogy will begin shooting JJ Abrams' Episode VII in April, according to Carrie Fisher.

Fisher, who played Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars and its two sequels, told TV Guide not only that the key leads would return, but that filming was due to start later this spring. She added that she was looking forward to getting back into character. "I'd like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again – but with white hair," the Press Association reported her as saying. "I think that would be funny."

Mark Hamill, who portrayed Luke Skywalker, yesterday refused to be drawn on rumours he will return to his best known role. In a Q&A session on Reddit, he wrote: "The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn't stopped beeping about it." Hamill added: "I'm not being coy, really. When I find something out, I'll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet."

Disneyland Is Remodeling Tomorrowland Based on Star Wars: Episode VII

From IGN

Add Disneyland’s Imagineers to the list of people who know more about the plot of Star Wars: Episode VII than you. The House of Mouse has big plans for Episode VII in its Anaheim-based theme park. Of course, these installations can’t be built overnight so the park’s designers needed J.J. Abrams to spill the beans on Episode VII's super secret story even before the script and casting are complete.

“The Imagineers assigned to the Star Wars Tomorrowland project have now been debriefed on the characters and plotlines coming for Star Wars Episode VII that opens in theaters in about two years. The original plan for Disneyland’s Tomorrowland relied heavily on characters and plot points from the first three Star Wars films, with attractions like a Millenium Falcon walk-thru on the old PeopleMover platform, a wild Tatooine cantina replacing Tomorrowland Terrace, and a speeder bike ride through an Ewok village where Autopia currently sits. Those key attractions are all still part of phase two, but they are being layered or tweaked to include references from Episode VII that will be released in theaters at least 18 months before any of those attractions open.”

Will We Have Star Wars For Xmas?

Star Wars Episode VII will be released in cinemas in December 2015, according to a new report.

JJ Abrams's continuation of George Lucas's sci-fi saga, which begins production at London's Pinewood Studios early next year, will allegedly break with Star Wars May release tradition to debut at Christmas

Badass Digest cites "multiple sources" claiming that Disney and Lucasfilm are targeting the middle of December to release the movie.

The move would pull Episode VII out of the crowded summer of 2015, which already has The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Superman vs Batman and Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 penciled in for release.

JJ Abrams is currently working on the script for Episode VII with writers Michael Arndt, Lawrence Kasdan, Simon Kinberg and producer Kathleen Kennedy.

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are all expected to reprise their roles from the original trilogy, while Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid have been linked with returns to the series.

ABC talking to Lucasfilm about a Star Wars TV show

Although Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm has resulted in the green light being given to a new theatrical Star Wars trilogy, it has left question marks hanging over a number of previously-announced projects. We've already seen the cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Seth Green's proposed comedy Star Wars: Detours, as well as the eagerly-awaited video game Star Wars 1313 and the planned 3D re-releases of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, while it also seems that George Lucas' long-in-development live-action TV series Star Wars: Underworld has been placed on the backburner.

However, during the Television Critics Association press tour yesterday, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee has revealed that the network is keen to expand its collaborations with Disney's subsidiaries beyond the upcoming superhero series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., announcing that talks are underway between ABC and Lucasfilm about a possible TV series set in a galaxy far, far away:

Anthony Daniels hints at C-3PO return in 'Star Wars 7'

From Yahoo Movies UK

Anthony Daniels, the British actor known mainly/only for playing stuck-up protocol droid C-3PO in the 'Star Wars' saga has hinted that he may be returning for 'Episode 7'.

He is just the latest former 'Star Wars' star claiming that a return is on the cards.

Daniels told Digital Spy: "Look, it's all very early days and I don't want to wear anybody out by speculating or letting you waste your energy by saying 'What do you think?'"

"I'm certainly not sitting by the phone, but it's always nice when it rings," he continued. "Do you know what I mean?"

When asked about it, he described the prospect of new 'Star Wars' films as "wonderful" but that it never occurred to them that they would happen.

"Everybody's really happy that Disney have taken over the mantle. Kathy Kennedy is so well loved and she is carrying George Lucas's torch so much further."

George Lucas Was Working On A New 'Star Wars' Trilogy Before Disney Purchased Lucasfilm

From Business Insider

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion last fall, one of the most exciting bits of news was that we would be getting a new "Star Wars" trilogy.

And fans were even more excited about getting episodes VII, VIII, and IX because George Lucas wouldn't be behind the new movies.

Instead, his title on the new projects is a vague "creative consultant" role.

However, it turns out we may very well be seeing Lucas' visions (in some form) for the trilogy on the big screen.

A new Bloomberg BusinessWeek article reveals Lucas was working on treatments for new films before inking a deal with Disney in October.

Basically, Lucas laid the foundation for the future "Star Wars" films out for Disney before any negotiations.

(More After The Break)

Prior to Iger and Lucas discussing the Disney deal, Lucas already had talks with Kathleen Kennedy to head Lucasfilm, "The Empire Strikes Back" screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan was called upon as a consultant, and preliminary talks with the original cast to appear in the future films took place.

Yes, it's looking more and more likely that all of those rumors about the original cast of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford joining the new trilogy is indeed true.

Lucas let a little bit slip in his interview:

“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation," said Lucas. "So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ … Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.”
