If I were to roll up to you on the street and ask you, "What is eight-feet-tall, covered in hair and has a head like a jack-o-lantern?", you would think that I was about to lay some lame riddle on you, right?
That, however, would not be the case at all. I would be asking you if you had ever heard of the Momo, a Bigfoot-like monster that is a local legend in Missouri.
Now, reportedly the Momo, or 'Missouri Monster' as it is known to local residents, is a large hair-covered primate with a pumpkin shaped head that was first sighted back in 1971. Sightings of the monster, which is said to have an appetite for pet cats, continued in the area around the town of Louisiana, Missouri (that is a town named Louisiana, not two states) throughout the early 70s, then trailed off.
Now, as I have said numerous times, 2009 was the year of the Bigfoot movie, and now, 2010 looks like it will be very much the same, with at least two new films already in production.
As you have already guessed, the first of these films to come stomping out of the woods is about the creature I was just talking about, the "Robot Monster" wanna-be "MOMO".
Under the direction of Count Zee, helmer of 2009's "Redneck Carnage" and starring Johnno Zee, Macy Elizabeth, Steven Seda, Darla Reynolds, Troy Dunkle, Don Samuels and Derral Reynolds as the monster, "Momo" is about 1/3 completed.....already.
Zee and company a really gunning for camp with this one, though billed as a horror/monster movie, nobody involved has any illusions that the film will be taken too seriously.....and that's just fine with them
Production is set to wrap in March, that is if the crew can thaw out by then. From there "MOMO" will enter the film festival circuit before, probably, heading to video.
Drunk Rednecks in the woods see the darnedest things don't they?
Here is the trailer:
I used to make art like that in Middle...um High, okay......College.
Zee and company are already way ahead in the merchandising game. Look for the "Tickle-Me-Momo" doll on store shelves just in time for Easter.
Okay, all joking aside, here are some exclusive 'behind-the-scenes' photos from "MOMO":
