Real Joy Comes from a Giving Heart | Pastor Steve Smothermon | Legacy Church

Source - Pastor Steve Smothermon

Embracing a life of generosity invites us to recognize that our time, talents, and resources are not solely for our own enrichment, but rather, they hold transformative potential for the lives of others. This heartfelt principle is beautifully captured in the profound words of Winston S. Churchill: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Generosity extends far beyond the confines of monetary donations; it embodies a holistic approach to giving that includes our time, attention, and compassion. It encourages us to nurture a mindset of abundance rather than one of scarcity, viewing each day as a precious opportunity to enhance the lives around us.

Finding the Right Path in Life - Divine Wisdom & Guidance | Wisdom Seeker | Miracle Mindset

 By Ken Hulsey

This morning, I revisited cherished photographs from a trip Terri and I took to Big Bear Lake. On that day, we savored a picnic lunch beside the serene waters and spent time exploring the surrounding trails. As you know, I rarely venture forth without my trusty camera, and that day was no exception – I captured several dozen images. One particular shot has always resonated with me, featuring a tree-lined path that resembles a tunnel, with light shining at the end. The scene struck me as profoundly spiritual, prompting me to search for a Bible verse that captured its essence. This is the passage the Lord led me to:

God's Promise of Protection - Divine Assurance | Christian Living Journal | Miracle Mindset

 Written By Ken Hulsey

In 2021, I experienced a harrowing incident on my drive home from work. While navigating the highway in heavy rain, I hydroplaned and lost control of my car. However, I can say without hesitation that Jesus protected me through the entire ordeal. In the days that followed, many people remarked on how 'lucky' I was to have emerged unharmed. But I am here to profess that it was not mere luck - it was divine intervention.

This past weekend, my wife discovered one of my old pictures that I surprisingly didn’t have in my archives. The photo depicts a lonely desert road in Nevada, rendered in stark black and white. In this form, the image powerfully conveys a sense of emptiness.

Stay On The Path - No Matter What Life Throws At You | Miracle Mindset

 Written By: Ken Hulsey

Navigating the path that God has lovingly laid out for us can be a profound journey. Yet, it's often met with challenges that arise from forces seeking to distract and disorient us. Picture this: as you strive to follow that divine path, the adversary may suddenly appear, trying to blind you and lead you astray. Like a whirlwind, he might spin you around, making you feel dizzy and disoriented, and with a flick, he removes that blindfold. In that moment, it can feel as though you’ve lost your way, as if under the influence of something strong, unable to see your true direction.

How a Stranger Can Bring God’s Message When You Least Expect It

 Written By Ken Hulsey

A few years back, Terri and I took our granddaughter for a delightful day at the zoo. What unfolded that day was more than just a joyful outing; it was a profound message from God that I never anticipated. Many of you know that I have a passion for photography, and the zoo offered the perfect backdrop for my wildlife photography pursuits. As is often my habit, I wandered off in search of interesting shots, momentarily losing sight of my family.

Facing Your Fears: Steps to Stand Strong | Why It’s Okay to Feel Scared and Keep Going

2 Timothy 4:6-18 paints a vivid picture of Paul’s unwavering courage in the face of trials. He faced opposition from religious leaders, endured mistreatment by magistrates, and was surrounded by hostile crowds. Yet, amidst these challenges, he remained steadfast. How did Paul find such strength? We can turn to his own words for insight. He admitted to the Corinthians that he approached them in weakness, speaking with fear and trembling (1 Corinthians 2:3). He even shared that he felt overwhelmed, pushed beyond what he could bear (2 Corinthians 1:8). There was a time when his fear was so intense that an angel had to come to him with a message of reassurance (Acts 27:24).

What Holds Christians Back From Showing Their Faith

As a Christian, I often find it surprising how hesitant we can be to share the incredible news about Christ's salvation with others. We live in a world that is genuinely yearning for the hope and joy we have to offer, yet many of us hold back from sharing it. Everyone is searching for answers to lead a fulfilling, peaceful, and loving life, and we possess the message that can guide them. So, why don’t we share it more boldly?

What Holds People Back From Making Real Changes | Spiritual Insights

“If you pray to God and earnestly seek the favor of the Almighty, striving to live a life of purity and integrity, He will surely rise to help you and restore your joyful home. Even if you begin with little, your journey can lead to abundance.” (Job 8:5-7 NLT)

It’s understandable if reflecting on integrity makes you feel a bit uneasy, especially as you think about those moments where you may have fallen short, missed opportunities to act with integrity, or faced moral challenges in your life. We all have our own lists of shortcomings. St. Augustine wisely noted that acknowledging our wrongdoings is the first step toward genuine goodness. If you truly desire to become a person of integrity, the first step is to recognize and admit where you have fallen short of that ideal. Be honest before God about how you sometimes struggle to keep your promises, about moments of gossip that you find enticing, or times when you may not have given your best effort at work. Acknowledging these truths is the first step in upholding integrity. Many individuals create boundaries in their lives, believing that they can maintain integrity in one aspect while harboring flaws in another, as if those flaws won’t impact the entirety of their lives. I refer to this mindset as the “Titanic myth.” The Titanic was once deemed unsinkable because it was designed with a segmented hull, allowing it to compartmentalize damage. The idea was that localized issues wouldn’t lead to an overall sinking. However, in the grand scheme of your life, a breach in integrity, no matter how small, can lead to significant challenges. What you think you can manage in isolation may ultimately bring you down, affecting not only yourself but also those around you. Sin may feel personal, but its effects ripple outward and touch many lives. Perfection is not a requirement from God. Rather, He seeks those who strive for integrity, and the first step is owning your shortcomings, regardless of how extensive they may seem. What truly matters to God is your heart. None of us will achieve perfection or a sinless existence, but we can strive to “sin less.” This is the essence of embracing integrity. - Inspired by (and including excerpts from) an article by Rick Warren

Prayer Is a Conversation - Connecting with the Divine | Spiritual Insights

Prayer is a sacred conversation, a divine dialogue between our hearts and the very heart of God. It is the means by which we commune with our Heavenly Father, pouring out our deepest longings, our greatest joys, and our most profound questions. Through prayer, we open ourselves up to the transformative power of God's love and wisdom. We find strength in times of struggle, clarity in moments of confusion, and peace that surpasses all understanding. Prayer is not merely a religious ritual or obligation - it is a precious gift, an invitation to draw near to the Creator of the universe and experience His presence in the most intimate way possible. As we quiet our minds and still our souls, we create space for God to speak into our lives, guiding our steps and illuminating our path. And as we lift up our petitions with faith and expectancy, we witness the awesome power of prayer to move mountains, heal brokenness, and bring forth miracles beyond our wildest imaginings. Truly, prayer is the key that unlocks the boundless resources of heaven and ushers us into a life of purpose, passion, and unshakeable hope. - Billy Graham

Inspirational Thoughts For Today - Trust, Desire and Rest | Motivational Insights

Trust, desire, and rest - three powerful concepts that can profoundly impact our lives when we approach them with the right mindset and perspective. When it comes to trust, it's natural to want to put our faith in the people around us, relying on their strength and support. But as much as we may care for others, the truth is that human beings are fallible and will inevitably let us down at times, even with the best of intentions. That's why the Bible wisely advises us to place our ultimate trust in God, who is steadfast, reliable, and will never disappoint us. By anchoring our trust in the Lord, we can weather life's storms with greater resilience and peace of mind. Similarly, when it comes to our desires and aspirations, it's wonderful to dream big and work diligently towards our goals. Striving to improve our lives, whether it's our home, career, relationships, or personal growth, is admirable and can bring immense satisfaction. However, we must be cautious not to become so consumed by these pursuits that we lose sight of what truly matters - our faith and connection with God. When we become overly dependent on external outcomes, we risk losing our inner peace and joy. So while it's great to put in the effort, let's remember to keep things in perspective and lean on God's guidance and strength along the way. Finally, in this fast-paced world that can leave us feeling drained and overwhelmed, the concept of rest takes on a deeper meaning. Beyond just leisure and relaxation (which are certainly important!), true rest is about finding peace and fulfillment in completing the works God has called us to do. Just as God rested after creating the heavens and earth, we too can experience a profound sense of rest when we are obedient to His will and purposes for our lives. It's not always easy, and it may require perseverance, but the rewards of living in alignment with God's plan are immeasurable. So let's make every effort to trust in the Lord, pursue our desires with a balanced perspective, and find true rest in fulfilling our God-given callings. Remember, you are never alone on this journey - God is always with you, cheering you on with love and compassion.

Own Your Emotions - Lead Your Emotions | Emotional Maturity

Owning and leading our emotions is a critical skill for achieving emotional maturity and living a happy, fulfilling life. Our emotions are powerful forces that can either propel us forward or hold us back, depending on how well we manage them. It's all too easy to let our emotions run wild, blaming our circumstances or other people for how we feel. But the truth is, we are ultimately responsible for our own emotional state. By learning to take control of our mind and emotions, we can cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment that isn't dependent on external factors. As the Bible teaches, "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." (Philippians 4:11) True, lasting happiness comes from within, from being filled with the Spirit and exhibiting its fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Leading our emotions is especially important in relationships. Unhealthy, out-of-control emotions can quickly poison the dynamic between partners, friends or family members. If someone claims to love you but exhibits toxic emotional patterns, they may need to relearn the true definition of love - one of patience, kindness, humility, selflessness and forgiveness. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) Developing emotional maturity takes intentional effort and self-awareness. We must actively cultivate positive emotions while managing negative ones. Prayer, seeking wise counsel, and focusing on giving to others are all powerful tools for emotional growth. As Jesus taught, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21) The more we prioritize the right things, the more our emotions will naturally align. Growing emotionally is a lifelong journey, one that requires continual learning and development. But the rewards - deeper relationships, unshakeable inner peace, and a more meaningful life - are more than worth the effort. - James W. Greer (Journey Church)
