Mysterious Russian Yetis Threaten Siberian Food Supply | Cryptid Encounters

From the files of Monster Island News - May 2009

Written By Ken Hulsey

Reports of giant, hairy creatures in Siberia continue to emerge. Over the past several months, numerous reports have emerged of encounters with Yetis in the Kemerovo Region, made by the local Shor people and hunters. The Russian scientific community has mounted several expeditions, all of which have returned with strong evidence that the mysterious creature may indeed inhabit the area.

Horror Express (1972)

This film has the Orient Express, The Yeti, Zombies, Alien Possessions, Rasputin, Count Dooku, Grand Moff Tarkin, Kojak, and a big train wreck, what more could you ask for?

Horror Express was a Spanish production directed by Eugenio Martin. It was filmed in Madrid in the years 1971-1972, a low budget film ($300,000) with the luxury of having three familiar genre actors in the lead: Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Telly Savalas. The film was co-produced by American film writer/producer Bernard Gordon, who had collaborated with Martin on the 1972 film Pancho Villa (which also featured Savalas in the title role). The filmmakers used both the miniature train and interior train set from Pancho Villa for Horror Express. The challenge was that they only had one set to be used as an interior train car. All of the scenes for each train car had to be shot at once, then the set would be rebuilt as the next car.

Securing Lee and Cushing was a coup for producer Gordon, since it lent a certain atmosphere reminiscent of Hammer Films, many of which starred both of the actors. However, when Cushing arrived in Madrid to begin work on the picture, he was still distraught over the recent death of his beloved wife, and announced to Gordon that he could not do the movie. With Gordon desperate over the idea of losing one of his important stars, Lee stepped in and put Cushing at ease simply by talking to him about some of their previous work together. Cushing changed his mind and stayed on.

The over-the-top performance of Telly Savalas cemented the film's reputation as a cult favorite. Savalas performed the role using grand gestures and a speaking voice similar to his characterization of Kojak, despite the fact that his character was supposed to be a Russian Cossack.

Horror Express was filmed mostly without sound, with effects and voices dubbed into the film later. Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas all provided their own voices for the English market.

Professor Alexander Saxton (Christopher Lee) is an anthropologist returning home to Europe via the Trans-Siberian Railway bringing with him a 'fossil' in a crate. The 'fossil' is the frozen remains of a primitive humanoid creature, which Saxton is sure is the missing link in the evolutionary chain. Also on board is Dr. Wells (Peter Cushing), another Englishman and a colleague of Saxton's.

Mysterious deaths occur even before the train sets out. A known thief is found dead on the platform after having looked into the crate, bleeding from his eyes, which have turned blank and white. A slightly unbalanced monk (a Rasputin-esque figure), who acts as a spiritual advisor to the Count and Countess waiting to board the train, claims that the crate is evil.

Saxton is eager to keep his find a secret from everyone, especially Dr. Wells, but Wells pays the baggage man to look into the crate. When he does, he is also killed by the glowing red gaze of the creature, which escapes the confines of its crate. The murders continue while the humanoid fossil haunts the moving train, the victims found with blank white eyes, and an autopsy leads Wells and his assistant to hypothesize that the brains of the victims are being drained of memories and knowledge. When the fossil is gunned down by Inspector Mirov, an authority in charge of the train, the threat seems to have been vanquished. However, Saxton and Wells discover images embedded in liquid inside the eye of the dead fossil, images that reveal a prehistoric Earth, as well as a view of the Earth from outer space. They deduce that the real threat is a formless alien creature that was simply inhabiting the body of the fossil, and that it has now transferred itself to the Inspector. The monk senses the evil presence inside of the Inspector and pledges allegiance to it, considering it Satan.

When news of the murders on the train is wired to Siberian authorities, the train is stopped and an intimidating cossack named Captain Kazan (Telly Savalas) boards with a small group of his men. Mirov is discovered to be the creature and is shot down, but not before the alien presence transfers itself to the monk. The passengers all retreat to the caboose, while the monk murders Kazan and his men by draining them of their brains.

Saxton rescues the Countess from the creature, but it resurrects all of its victims as white-eyed zombies. The zombies chase Saxton and the Countess back to the caboose, where the others are waiting. As they desperately work to detach the caboose from the rest of the train, Russia sends a telegraph to the next station ahead that they are to send the train over a cliff. The operators follow this order, thinking that they may be at war. Just as the surviving passengers manage to separate themselves from the rest of the train, it goes crashing over the cliff into a fiery explosion below. The caboose rolls to a safe stop precariously near the edge, where the survivors watch the fire consume the train and the unnatural inhabitants within it.

Today the Month of Monsters takes a relaxing train ride with Rasputin and Sasquatch ...

Yeti sighting in Siberia' claims Russian expert

A new image of a Yeti - or Bigfoot - lurking behind trees is the 'clearest evidence' so far of the creature's existence.

So claims leading Yeti proponent Igor Burtsev, Director of the International Centre of Hominology in Moscow. It comes as Dr Burtsev is fending off claims from a UK newspaper that samples of 'Yeti hair' which he provided have turned out under DNA analysis at Oxford University to be horse, racoon and American Black Bear.

While disputing the results of the test, he has released footage which he claims shows a fleeting two second glimpse of shadowy object moving behind snow-covered trees some 30km from the coal mining city Leninsk-Kuznetskiy in Kemerovo region.

'Three boys made a video of the Yeti', he said.

'They were in the area near the city of Leninsk-Kuznetskiy, some 30 km away. They were walking about and noticed a chain of huge tracks in the snow.

'They got very inquisitive about the tracks and followed the trail, filming them on the mobile phone camera.

'They walking for a bit and got closer to the bushes - where suddenly they saw a Yeti, some 50 metres away from them.

'It noticed them as well, sharply moved, bent down, then to the left, and ran left. The boys, scared, ran in the opposite direction.'

One - Yevgeny Anisimov, 11, who is filming the 'creature' - is heard shouting: 'I am the nearest, I'm going to be eaten.'

Kate Bush Sings About The Yeti In Her New Single "Wild Man"

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: The Quietus / Kate Bush.com

I fell in love some 25 years ago with Kate Bush when I saw her perform "Hounds of Love" on a British music awards program. During her performance she danced around the stage with person wearing a werewolf costume. Being a monster movie fan I was smitten.

Delving into her vast library of music I soon discovered that horror and sci fi were major inspirations for several of her songs including "Hammer Horror", "Experiment IV", "Cloudbusting" and the for mentioned "Hounds of Love" which was inspired by the 1957 film "Night of the Demon."

"It's in the trees! It's coming!"

Now Bush has chosen the Yeti as inspiration for "Wild Man" the first single off her new album entitled "50 Words For Snow".

In a recent interview Bush talked about the mythical monster, "Well, the first verse of the song is just quickly going through some of the terms that the Yeti is known by and one of those names is the Kangchenjunga Demon. He’s also known as Wild Man and Abominable Snowman. "

On whether the Yeti is man or beast.

"Well, I don’t refer to the Yeti as a man in the song. But it is meant to be an empathetic view of a creature of great mystery really. And I suppose it’s the idea really that mankind wants to grab hold of something [like the Yeti] and stick it in a cage or a box and make money out of it..."

"Wild Man" lyrics:

They call you an animal, the Kangchenjunga Demon, Wild Man, Metoh-Kangmi.
Lying in my tent, I can hear your cry echoing round the mountainside.
You sound lonely.
While crossing the Lhakpa-La something jumped down from the rocks.
In the remote Garo Hills by Dipu Marak we found footprints in the snow.

The schoolmaster of Darjeeling said he saw you by the Tengboche Monastery.
You were playing in the snow. You were banging on the doors. You got up on the roof, Roof of the World.
You were pulling up the rhododendrons. Loping down the mountain.
They want to know you. They will hunt you down, then they will kill you.
Run away, run away, run away...
While crossing the Lhakpa-La something jumped down from the rocks.
In the remote Garo Hills by Dipu Marak we found footprints in the snow.
We found your footprints in the snow. We brushed them all away...
From the Sherpas of Annapurna to the Rinpoche of Qinghai.
Shepherds from Mount Kailash to Himachal Pradesh found footprints in the snow.

You’re not a langur monkey nor a big brown bear – You’re the Wild Man.
They say they saw you drowned near the Rongbuk Glacier.
They want to hunt you down. You’re not an animal.
The Lamas say you’re not an animal.

On a side note, Kate Bush's music video for "Cloudbusting" is one of my all time favorites and possibly the best ever produced! Check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRHA9W-zExQ

Okay .... just in case you don't know what the Yeti is:

The Yeti or Abominable Snowman is an ape-like cryptid said to inhabit the Himalayan region of Nepal, and Tibet. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their history and mythology. Stories of the Yeti first emerged as a facet of Western popular culture in the 19th century.

The scientific community generally regards the Yeti as a legend, given the lack of conclusive evidence, yet it remains one of the most famous creatures of cryptozoology. The Yeti may be considered a sort of parallel to the Bigfoot of North America. - Wikipedia

And Kate Bush:

Kate Bush (born Catherine Bush 30 July 1958) is an English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Her eclectic musical style and idiosyncratic vocal style have made her one of the United Kingdom's most successful solo female performers of the past 30 years. Bush was signed by EMI at the age of 16 after being recommended by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. In 1978, at age 19, she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first woman to have a UK number-one with a self-written song. She was also the most photographed woman in the United Kingdom the following year.

After her 1979 tour—the only concert tour of her career—Bush released the 1980 album Never for Ever, which made her the first British solo female artist to top the UK album charts and the first female artist ever to enter the album chart at No. 1. In 1987, she won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist. She has released ten albums, three of which topped the UK Albums Chart, and has had twenty-five UK Top 40 hit singles including "Wuthering Heights", "Running Up that Hill", "King of the Mountain", "Babooshka", "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", and "Don't Give Up" (a duet with Peter Gabriel)—all of which reached the Top 10.

In 2002, Bush's songwriting ability was recognised with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. In 2005, she released Aerial, her first album in 12 years. The album earned her a BRIT Award nomination for Best Album and another for Best Solo Female Artist. During the course of her career, she has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards. In early 2011, EMI Records also announced an upcoming re-issue of four of Bush's albums (The Dreaming, Hounds of Love, The Sensual World and The Red Shoes) under the name of her own label, Fish People, now that Bush has regained full control over these records. Bush released Director's Cut on 16 May 2011, which contains reworked material from her albums The Sensual World (1989) and The Red Shoes (1993). Bush will release her 10th studio album titled 50 Words For Snow on 21 November 2011. - Wikipedia

The Reasons Why Godzilla Is So Down Lately Explored In SAD MONSTERS

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Sad Monsters Website

It is a little known fact that monsters suffer from depression. Sure they scare the crap out of us, but do any of us really know what they are like at home, alone, or with their families?

Sure Godzilla looks like he's having fun destroying a city but what comes afterward? Once the city is set ablaze then what? A feeling of emptiness .... that's what.

The Wolfman certainly has fun at night chasing after peasant girls and ducking people trying to hunt him down but in the morning he's just boring old Larry Talbot again.

Frankenstein, same story, and when he shows up at Der Weinersnitchel everybody goes running off screaming. All he wants is a Pepsi!

Try social networking when your an 8ft-tall-Man-fish that lives in a Black Lagoon. Ya think anyone is going to listen to your thoughts on world issues when all you can do is flap your gills and make fish faces?

Dating .... well we all know how that goes. Take that cute little blond out for a night in the big city, even take her to a romantic spot on top of some building with a great view, and some jackhole calls out the Air Force on ya.

Monsters with monster size depressions.

Author Frank Lesser explores this rather depressing side of our favorite creatures in his new book "Sad Monsters: Growling on the Outside, Crying on the Inside". It's a humorous collection of short essays written from the monsters point of view. Some of these rather personal documentaries of what it is really like to be a monster include, "The Ordinary Spider-Man," "Igor's Resume," "Groom of Frankenstein", "The Werewolf Whisperer," "The Yeti Wears Prada," and "Questioning Godzilla's Existence".

Ever wonder how deep Godzilla's feelings are? Check out these excerpts from "Questioning Godzilla's Existence":

Barely had enough energy to rampage to the bathroom, let alone through a city, but finally rolled out of bed and destroyed Tokyo. Again. Starting to wonder, what’s the point? They’re just going to rebuild.

Son of Godzilla never calls anymore. Was I a bad parent? I guess I could have spent more time with him tossing around the old football stadium.

We all wish we could have been better fathers G ..... and we all cry a little bit when no ones around. There ... there.

Maybe these poor souls wouldn't be so down if we all just took a little extra time to get to know them instead of screaming at them, chasing them around the village with torches and pitch forks in our hands and firing missiles at them.

Maybe it's time to start caring a little? That's all I'm saying ....

Old Bigfoot And Mothman Video Footage

Rare Bigfoot and Mothman footage. In many cases old film footage of Sasquatch such as these have remained hidden in attics and closets for decades. Many people fearing ridicule never released them to the public.

The Abominable Snowman (aka The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas) is a 1957 British horror film, directed by Val Guest and starring Forrest Tucker and Peter Cushing. The film is based on The Creature, a BBC Television play by writer Nigel Kneale, and follows the exploits of an English anthropologist with an American expedition as they search the Himalayas for the legendary Yeti. Kneale adapted his own television script into the film screenplay. Cushing, along with several other members of the cast, had also starred in the original version (the role of Tom Friend in the television play was taken by Stanley Baker).

The film was produced by Hammer Film Productions and released on 26 August 1957 in the UK. It was subsequently released in the United States and throughout the world.

Government Files Reveal US Yeti Hunt

Written By: Paul Bedard, Lauren Fox

Newly unearthed State Department documents confirm for the first time Uncle Sam's belief that the Abominable Snowman roamed the mountains of Nepal in the 1950s, a finding that has shocked federal officials including the archivist who discovered the papers.

Long written off as a myth—it was never caught or photographed—the documents provided by the National Archives show that officials in the State Department, Foreign Service, and U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal, not only believed in "Yeti," but endorsed rules for American expeditions to follow when hunting the toothy monster down.

"There are, at present, three regulations applicable only to expeditions searching for the Yeti in Nepal. These regulations are to be observed," said a memo from the embassy written on State Department letterhead.

The first rule required that expeditions buy a permit. The second demanded that the beast be photographed or taken alive. "It must not be killed or shot at except in an emergency arising out of self defense," wrote Embassy Counselor Ernest Fisk on November 30, 1959. And third, any news proving the existence of the Abominable Snowman must be cleared through the Nepalese government which probably wanted to take credit for the discovery.

Archivist Mark Murphy said he couldn't believe his eyes when he discovered the long-ignored papers written at the end of the Eisenhower administration. "I thought I was seeing things," he said. "These documents show that finding the Yeti was a big deal in the 1950s. It goes to show the government was taking this seriously."

How seriously?

One foreign service dispatch from the Embassy of New Delhi dated April 16, 1959 describes the many American expeditions involved in mountaineering and monster hunting in Nepal.

"American resources in the last two years have been concentrated on efforts to capture the abominable snowman," the record reads.

Tom Slick, a millionaire with a specialized interest in cryptozoology paid for three separate expeditions in Nepal to find the snow beast, immortalized in the 1964 Christmas classic Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Slick never found it and he went onto pursue bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest.

What's Next Up For The Mouse Factory? You Guessed It ... A Bigfoot Movie!

Written By: Ken Hulsey

It seems that the lure of the Bigfoot movie craze is just too much for any movie maker or movie studio to resist ..... even Disney. Move over Mickey, take a seat Jack Sparrow, there's a new property about to be exploited and thy name is Sasquatch ..... well The Yeti to be precise. Yes, since "Pirates of the Caribbean" has become such a huge movie franchise Disney has taken a good look around their theme park for another movie sensation and zeroed in on The Matterhorn.

And what monster pops out at you on The Matterhorn ride? The Yeti. So what monster is going to be the antagonist in the movie based on the ride?

Bingo!

So far the film is in early development but what is known about the script sounds alot like "Escape to Witch Mountain" meets "The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas". A group of five kids are mysteriously drawn to the top of the mountain by a group of Yetis. What the monsters want with the kids at this point is anybodies guess ..... but I'm sure there is a gift shop up there.

Justin Springer (Tron: Legacy) will be producing the film (tentatively entitled "The Hill") from a script by Jason Dean Hall (Spread).

This New Bigfoot Clip Is ABOMINABLE

The ever present net scout Avery Guerra turned me on to this wonderful bit of fun animation called "Abominable." Actually it's a great combination of computer animation combined with live actors.

"Abominable" is the handy work of Lamson To and Joseph Won who put the short together as a school project.

Here is the synopsis:

Up on a distant snow covered mountain, an Evil Hunter of mythical creatures sets his sights on a Baby Yeti, but is soon meets his demise when he comes face to face with Daddy Yeti.

A Sasquatch on skis? Looks like the Canadian Olympic team has a new member? There goes our chances for the gold. Can you imagine having to face off against Bigfoot?

Good job guys!

The Worm: 'Strange Days,' sightings from NCW
The Wenatchee World Online

“Strange Days” search: In NCW, you’re probably more likely to encounter a Sasquatch than a celebrity. Now Paul Graves of Wenatchee has done both.

Standup comic and former “Full House” star Bob Saget embarks on a new TV project with his A&E reality show “Strange Days,” due to premiere on the cable channel sometime this year. The show features Saget immersing himself in “different unusual cultures from the world of mail-order brides to joining a survivalist cult prepping for the end of the world to rushing a fraternity,” according to A&E.

Q: What does this guy have in common with the guy below? A: Mysterious, unconfirmable sightings in NCW.

Among the show’s early expeditions was a three-day Olympic Peninsula quest for Sasquatch, led in part by Wenatchee artist, musician and cryptid-hunter Graves, 49. He’s long been associated with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, a private group that seeks out evidence of the mysterious woodland humanoids (called “Choanito,” or “Night People,” by the Wenatchi Indians).

THE BOOTLEG FILES: IN SEARCH OF…
Film Threat

Back in the 1970s, there was a sudden groundswell of interest in unexplained phenomena and historical conspiracy theories. Movies, magazines and books were devoted to such diverse oddities as UFOs, cryptozoology, revisionist theories and anything that challenged the placidity of the too-easy-to-explain world.

In 1973, television caught this wacky vibe with the broadcast of “In Search of Ancient Astronauts.” This film was a truncated version of an unreleased 1970 German documentary based on Erich Von Daniken’s controversial book “Chariots of the Gods?”, and it put forward a straight-faced argument (courtesy of a Rod Serling narration) that extra-terrestrials may have played a role in creating the glorious engineering feats of ancient Egypt and the Mayan and Aztec kingdoms. The broadcast was a ratings success – the full-length German film of “Chariots of the Gods?” wound up being dubbed with a new English soundtrack and theatrically released in the U.S. a year later – and a sequel called “In Search of Ancient Civilizations” was aired in 1975, with Serling returning as the narrator.

Alan Landsburg Productions, the company behind the two films, decided that it could spin a weekly TV series based on the concept of exploring weird mysteries of science and history. For the era, this was fairly daring – no serious news show or educational television channel would dare to wade in these waters.

Validating Big Foot Intrepid researcher looks high and low for allusive hominoid
Humboldt Beacon

Eight months ago in January, the Humboldt Beacon reported on Big Foot researcher William Barnes of Nevada City who unveiled plans for bringing a research team to Humboldt County last month in July to look for and document the controversial creature.

Calling this major undertaking the Falcon Project, Barnes explained that it took him close to 12-years to develop his unique and sophisticated method of recording the creature in its natural habitat. Adding that he's the first in history to utilize remote-controlled blimps with on-board thermal imaging cameras and high-tech audio equipment, Barnes hopes to capture graphic or sound imprints of the allusive animal in a documentary film format. And whether or not the Falcon Project reaches its ultimate goal of substantiating Bigfoot, the film will serve as a historical record for future generations of researchers.

Talking to Barnes at his Nevada City home, the researcher said that it's time to discard the old Bigfoot name and to go with a more scientific designation. “That term has become over-commercialised, and based on what we've been able to gather, it's probably more correct to call it a native American ape/hominoid.”

Argentina: Ranchers Kill “Fanged Humanoid”
Ghost Theory

The report on Argentinean newspaper, El Tribuno, talks about a strange humanoid creature being killed by ranchers in the area of El Creston. The ranchers thought it could have been a local predator stalking their cattle, but once they had shot and killed it, they noticed that this was something else. Something out of this world.

According to the ranchers, the creature was covered in hair and had fingers and toes. Most distinguishable were the two protruding incisors that this creature had. The ranchers claim to have cut the head off and thrown the body down a canyon. In efforts of trying to ditch a possible attack by more of these creatures.

Bizarre story….bizarre images.

Looks to me like a possible escaped monkey was shot by the ranchers. Then again I would like to think that these ranchers could tell the difference between and monkey and their claims of it being a ‘goblin’

Fact or Fiction? Giant Spiders in Africa...and USA
Pravda

research has been conducted into the J’Ba FoFi (Giant Spider) in the Congo, said to have a leg span of five feet across. Records of this monster have been documented in African Folklore for centuries, however further studies have unearthed encounters with westerners and, according to one, this creature has also been spotted in the United States of America.

New research by Terrence Aym* has documented tales from African folklore, of a species of giant spider living in the Congo, Uganda and Central Africa in densely forested areas. More than this, he has uncovered testimonies from Western travellers in the area, who confirm the reports of a monster spider with a leg span of five feet across.

Terrence Aym’s piece in his site helium.com tells of massive spiders living in forests near African villages, with webs stretched across pathways and trip-wires to ensnare passers-by, including humans, who are then pounced upon and injected with venom by the creatures’s fangs.

Aym’s research shows these monster arachnids are more than flights of fantasy in African folklore: there are documented encounters with explorers. Cryptozoologist George Eberhart writes of an encounter between a British couple and the J’Ba FoFi in 1938, when what they thought to be a cat or a monkey crossing the path in front of them turned out to be a giant spider three feet across.

The Abominable Snowman: Bear, Cat or Creature?
MyFox Dallas

The Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, may be the Southern Asian version of Bigfoot. The creature is said to inhabit the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal and Tibet.

The Christian Science Monitor reported in April on an "Oriental Yeti" trapped by hunters in central China. One of the hunters said it appears to be a bear but has no fur. It also was said to sound like a cat.

Loren Coleman, a mystical creature researchers who opened the International Cryptozoology Museum in Maine, told the Monitor it could be a few different types of cats such as an Asian palm or common civet cat or a masked or a Himalayan palm civet.

Bigfoot Sightings Mix Hoax, Unknown
myfoxny

It doesn't like sticking around for cameras. It is a legend that hangs on through generations and spreads throughout the land, taking root wherever there is enough forest to shelter it in the United States and Canada.

That creature is Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch. It is an ape-like creature that is studied in the circles of cryptozoology, the search for legendary creatures who people claim exist but lack any physical evidence to prove.

It has its believers, but also has numerous skeptics.

Two men in Georgia claimed to have found a Bigfoot creature in 2008. Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer said they came across a 7-foot-7-inch, 500-pound corpse in the state's north side, according to the BBC . They had a photo of a large, hairy creature with an ape-like face.

Warning sign: Watch out, Bigfoot about
Safety Sign Supplies

A safety sign in America is urging people to keep their eyes peeled for a big, hairy ape, not the local park ranger. but the one and only Bigfoot.

According to the Press-Enterprise, a safety sign on highway 243 in Mountain Centre, Idyllwild, California, sports an image of the infamous simian that is purported to stalk the forests and woodlands of north America.

The news provider reports that "a clever person" has erected a yellow, diamond-shaped warning sign so passers by now know that their top safety priority is not falling rocks, deer shooting across the road or difficult driving conditions, but the fact that a ten foot tall beast is haunting the surrounding San Jacinto Mountains.

TWISTED HISTORY: The Wendigo
Torrington Register Citizen

When I was about five, maybe six years old, I remember going to visit my grandparents on my Mom’s side. We didn’t get there too much because they lived all the way in Plainville, and apparently to my mom, that may as well have been on the distant side of Mars. She didn’t like driving too much. And my grandparents didn’t drive at all.

Be that as it may, Grandma was a French lady, and Grandpa was, to be politically correct, a Native American man. By the time I got to know him, he was well into his late 70s, and had a whopper of a case of hardening of the arteries. Much of his time was spent reliving World War I, unfortunately, which was terrifying. But somehow, our visits brought him back to some semblance of the present, and he would tell me stories about when he was a kid in Vermont. Of course I don’t really remember them too well, but when I read today, the tribal tales that Abenaki writer Joseph Bruchac tells, they do sound vaguely familiar.

Lakeside Nessie? Something fishy here
Fort Wayne Journal Gazette

News of a possible pint-sized sea monster in the pond at Lakeside Park hasn’t prompted a don’t-go-near-the-water panic, but it has brought a lot of reader feedback offering up possible explanations about what this creature might be.

We first wrote about “Lakeside Nessie” last month when a reader sent us a photo of a creature with a snake-like body and no visible fins. We also talked to someone who saw the strange creature from 6 feet away, writhing in the water like a snake.

So far, all the evidence and suggestions have brought to the conclusion that we don’t have the faintest idea what this is – or was – but here are some possibilities.

Doctor Who vs The Yeti - Merry Christmas!

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Bleeding Cool / Hero Press

It seems that the Doctor's nemesis in this years Christmas special will be none other than the Yeti according to the UK fan site BleedingCool.com. The site was lucky enough to score an image of the new design for cyborg creature from non other than BBC production designer Peter Mckinstry who has done work for not only "Doctor Who", but "Torchwood" and the "Sarah Jane Adventures" as well.

Despite only appearing in only three episodes of the long running UK sci fi series, the Yeti have remained a fan favorite and their return to the series has been rumored since it's rebirth in 2005.

To catch everyone up, the Yeti were first encountered by the Doctor's second incarnation, played by Patrick Troughton in the episode, "The Abominable Snowmen", and then again later in "The Web of Fear".

It was revealed that these creatures were not actually living cryptids at all, but robots controlled by Great Intelligence, a race of omnipotent beings with aspirations to conquer and rule the Earth.

At first, the Yeti were just meant to keep trespassers away from the aliens secret base in the Himalayas, but in future episodes they became actual foot soldiers brandishing weapons.

There has been some debate in Doctor Who circles on whether the robot Yeti were designed to merely resemble the legendary wild-men of Tibetan folklore or if their appearance actually was responsible for the numerous sightings of the creatures throughout history.

Thankfully sci fi television series like "Doctor Who" and "The Six Million Dollar Man" have given us the real scoop on both Bigfoot, and the Yeti, they are just giant robots controlled by aliens. That makes far more sense than a bunch of undiscovered primates running around now doesn't it?

Hopefully the appearance of these classic monsters can inject some life into the series, which since the departure of actor David Tennant (The Doctor is now played by Matt Smith), and writer/producer Russell T Davies, has been rather stale.

Russian Yetis Cutting Into Siberian Food Supply

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Mosnews

The reports of giant harry creatures in Siberia just keep coming and coming. Over the past several months there have been numerous reports of encounters with Yetis in the Kemerovo Region made by the local Shor people and hunters. Several expeditions have been mounted by the Russian scientific community, and they have all returned with very strong evidence that the mysterious creature may really inhabit the area.

In fact there may be so many of the creatures, that they are actually cutting into the Shor's natural food supply. It seems that both the Yeti and the Shor share a passion for the leek, which is a form of wild onion.

The Shor have reported that their leek crops are being gobbled up by something that leaves behind giant five-toed footprints. Due to the tribes numerous encounters with the creatures it didn't take long for them to identify just whom was taking the onions.

It seems that the creatures live in or around the Azasskaya Cave, the location of many of the scientific communities recent expeditions. Over the past several weeks, Vladimir Makuta, the local Tashtagol District administrator, has received 14 new written reports of yeti sightings near the cave and the nearby Mrassu River.

Will the elusive Yeti finally be discovered by scientists in Siberia? It seems like a very distinct possibility, due to the sheer number of credible reports coming out of the area. It would seem that a very large population of the animals exist there.
