In 1984 the animated television series MACROSS had reached new heights in popularity in Japan. Never before had an animated series struck such a chord with the Japanese public. Certainly shows such as Astro Boy, Kimba, Gigantor, Mazinger and Gundam were popular entities among the younger population, but MACROSS had transcended all age groups, classes and genders like no anime before it. Songs from the show, sung by Mari Iijima (as Lynn Minmay), were climbing the charts one after another. In fact, Lynn Minmay (despite the fact that she was a fictional character) had become as popular a pop star in Japan as Madonna had become in America. The time was right for the shows directors, Noboro Ishiguro and Shoji Kawamori, to begin work on a big screen adaptation of the MACROSS story. A theatrical release would allow for higher production values, cleaner animation and a more adult oriented storyline. The biggest challenge for the two directors would be to condense the series’ numerous episodes and complicated plot down to a serviceable 114 minutes. Ishiguro and Kawamori knew this would not be easy, but both were up to the challenge. The movie would feature all of the elements that made MACROSS a hit, transforming mecha, unique spaceship designs, and a strong character driven story. THE SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE? opened in theatres throughout Japan on July 21, 1984 and became an instant box office hit.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Find Their 'Spider-Man' Star and Director
Tom Holland Cast as the Web-Slinger, Jon Watts to Direct the Next Spider-Man Adventure,
From Marvel Comics
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director. The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in "The Impossible," “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," and by a series of complex screen tests. Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.
Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”
Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the Web-Slinger.
Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

FUNimation And Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Enter Into Multi-Year Distribution Agreemen
FUNimation to manage production and marketing of its product; Universal to handle physical distribution of FUNimation titles across North America
FUNimation Entertainment and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) have reached an exclusive multi-year distribution services agreement. John Morici, Managing Director -- U.S. and Canada, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and Mike DuBoise, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, FUNimation, jointly made the announcement today.
This agreement will allow FUNimation, North America's anime market share leader, to continue delivering on its commitment to serve anime fans everywhere and to expand its leadership in home entertainment. "Pairing Universal's 'best-in-class' home entertainment distribution infrastructure with FUNimation's superior anime properties, along with our marketing, production, and fan engagement capabilities, effectively positions our companies for enduring success," said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of FUNimation. "We believe this new strategic agreement will create an important opportunity for us to strengthen our physical distribution business."
"We're excited to partner with FUNimation, the premier anime company in both the United States and Canada. They have a proven track record for marketing a compelling slate of titles as evidenced with such recent releases as 'Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods,' 'Attack on Titan,' 'Cowboy Bebop,' 'Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign,' and their upcoming theatrical release of 'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F','" said Morici. "We are pleased to enter into a distribution services partnership with this talented group and look forward to our collaboration."
"As the home entertainment industry continues to evolve, this agreement will create greater scale and opportunities for us across our physical distribution business, resulting in meaningful benefits," said DuBoise. "It also allows us to double down on our efforts to acquire and co-produce shows, build brands for our partners, improve fan experiences at every touch-point, and further develop digital distribution capabilities."
FUNimation Entertainment's library spans over 400 anime and live-action titles; including gems for the most serious anime fans as well as those just discovering anime. Oddly, the fists break off their attack as suddenly as it began. After one more strange encounter with the flying fists, Superboy changes into his Clark Kent identity. The fists come after him again, but before they can strike and expose his secret, they fly off in another direction.

Each time the fists broke off the attack when Superboy neared a heat source which interrupted the magnet's pull. When the Red K wears off, the threat of the fists ends.

Following his battle with Iron Man, the Sub-Mariner rushes toward the submarine piloted by Warlord Krang with Lady Dorma aboard. Namor is still furious at the supposed betrayal of Lady Dorma who, unknown to Namor, has been blackmailed into marrying Warlord Krang.
As the prince of Atlantis approaching Krang's craft he is attacked by the ships hydro-blaster, prompting the Sub-Mariner to strike the hull of the ship with it's own body. With the ship attempting to land on nearby building, Namor attempts to stop it from landing and is struck by the ships sonic vortex weapon. Krang is attempting to strike a weak spot on the Sub-Mariner's skull in the hopes of causing him amnesia like the type that plagued him for years until his memory was returned by the Fantastic Four.
Namor survives the blast unharmed and with his facilities still together and resumes his attack. The battle is being watched by Number 1 of the Secret Empire who hopes to enslave Namor to serve the Empire and help it raise to prominence once more. With Krang's ship hovering over the sea once more, Namor gets to a window where he sees Lady Dorma who tries to explain her situation to the Sub-Mariner. Namor smashes through the glass only to be blasted by Warlord Krang, and getting knocked back into the ocean.
Coming back up from the water, Namor neglects to notice Number One arriving on the scene with a labotomizer weapon that he hopes to use against the Sub-Mariner to erase his memory. The work is done for him by Warlord Krang however, who fires a powerful fleet destroyer missile that explodes on impact with Namor. Although the explosion is massive, Namor is seemingly unharmed and hurled into the ocean once more while Krang flees the scene with Dorma.
When Number One pulls Namor out of the water, he is surprised to find that the Prince of Atlantis has once more been struck with amnesia. Taking advantage of this Number One tells the Sub-Mariner that he is the enemy of humanity.

His next challenge was Dr. Hugo Strange, a mad scientist who had created Monster Men to do his bidding. He met his greatest nemesis when the Joker first appeared, a brilliant serial killer dressing like a clown and murdering people uncontrollably. We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we, Wang?
From Monster Island News
Originally envisioned by film maker John Carpenter, as a 'classic' western movie, then a 'modern' western movie, "Big Trouble in Little China", eventually evolved into action/comedy that pays homage to Kung-Fu cinema. After several studios balked at the idea of martial arts themed, 'cowboy' movie, screenwriter W. D. Richter was hired by Carpenter to 'modernize' the script. It would seem that Richter would have his own agenda in mind when developing a new story for "Big Trouble", the early drafts all tied in the film as a sequel to his 1984 film, "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!". Carpenter, however, wasn't on the same page as Richter, wanting "Big Trouble in Little China" to be a stand-alone film, and not a sequel, so references to "Buckaroo Banzai" never made it into the final screenplay.
"Big Trouble in Little China" stars Kurt Russell has the truck driver with a big ego, and big heart, Jack Burton. Russell had resurrected his career in the early 80s after success in family oriented Disney films in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Blondie - Heart of Glass
From MIN Music
londie is an American rock band founded in New York City in 1974 by singer-songwriter Deborah Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the early American new wave and punk scenes of the mid-70s, developing their sound in famous NYC clubs such as CBGBs. With hits such as “Atomic”, “Call Me”. “Heart of Glass”, and “Maria” as well as sales of over 40 million records worldwide, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Their original lineup consisted of Deborah Harry (vocals), Chris Stein (guitar, bass guitar), Clem Burke (drums, percussion), Jimmy Destri (keyboards), and Gary Valentine (bass guitar, guitar).
Band lore states that their name came from both a flippant reference to Adolf Hitler’s dog Blondie as well as vocalist Harry’s bright blond hair. Previously having been a Playboy Bunny, Harry fronted the early version of the band. initially known as “Angel and the Snakes”. They built up underground fame in NYC. Blondie released their first album, ‘Blondie’, in 1976. The album was mildly successful and spawned the Australian hit single “In the Flesh”. Gary Valentine left the band later that year, and they continued briefly as a foursome, recording ‘Plastic Letters’ and gaining more airplay with their track “Denis”. Still in touch with their punk roots, having played in clubs such as CBGBs and hung out with rock artists such as the Ramones, the band broke out into other, more diverse influences such as older dance and pop music, particularly interested in Phil Spector’s ‘wall of sound’ technique.

HAS THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY MONSTER RETURNED?
From MIN Mysteries
Many of you may be surprised to learn that people have been seeing something that resembles "The Loch Ness Monster" in the San Francisco Bay since the 1800s. Indeed there are hundreds of forms of marine animals and fish that call the area home and, reportedly, some form(s) of aquatic dinosaur(s) may be among their ranks.
For Bill and Bob Clark there is no doubt about it. Since their first encounter with one of these relics from the prehistoric past in 1985 the brothers have seen such creatures several times and cataloged numerous sightings from other eye witnesses.
Their first encounter came while the brothers were watching sea lions swimming in the bay. Without any warning something that resembled a Plesiosaurus (A species of aquatic dinosaur with a long neck, thick body, and flippers) shot out of the water in an attempt to snag one of the mammals.

Their first encounter came while the brothers were watching sea lions swimming in the bay. Without any warning something that resembled a Plesiosaurus (A species of aquatic dinosaur with a long neck, thick body, and flippers) shot out of the water in an attempt to snag one of the mammals.

Clayburn Moore Joins Diamond Select Toys as Art Director and Sculptor
From Diamond Select
The name Clayburn Moore is well-known in toy and statue collector circles, and rightfully so. As a sculptor, his mastery of the human form is evident in every piece he creates, and as the founder of his own company, he oversaw the release of numerous toys and statues beloved by collectors. After a long freelance relationship with Mr. Moore, Diamond Select Toys is proud to announce that they will retain his tremendous talent on a full-time basis, as Moore takes lead sculpting duties on several new statue lines for the company, as well as Art Director duties on other lines.
Moore’s deft hands will relaunch Diamond Select’s Premier Collection 12” resin statue line, beginning with his sculpts of Batgirl and Catwoman from the Batman Classic TV Series. Moore will also revive the Marvel Premier Collection, sculpting all-new statues of Marvel’s greatest heroes and heroines in a 12” scale, marking DST’s grand return to comic-based Marvel statues. (Moore himself kicked off the Marvel Premier line in 2002, with his sculptures of the Black Cat, the White Queen and Spider-Man.) A third Premier Collection line, based on Batman: The Animated Series, will follow.
Additionally, Moore will take up the Art Director reins on the new Marvel Femme Fatales PVC statue line, featuring 9” renditions of Marvel’s heroines by a variety of sculptors. He will also oversee future Femme Fatales releases based on other licenses.
"Working with the terrific folks at DST is as natural as working with family,” says Moore. “I've known them a long time, and we've always had a great time working together on some projects that have turned out to be some of my favorite pieces. I've really enjoyed working on the Batman Classic TV Show sculptures, and I can't wait to get started on the Marvel characters."
“We work with many artists and sculptors at DST, and Clay has always been one of the greats,” says Diamond Select Toys President Chuck Terceira. “He’s not only a prodigious talent, he’s also a genuine pleasure to work with – he already felt like family, so it’s very fitting that he is now with us full-time. We’ve created great pieces with him in the past, and his new work surpasses those previous creations. The response to Batgirl has been phenomenal, and Clay’s just getting started.”
After refining his sculptural training in Italy, Moore quickly made a name for himself as a freelance sculptor, creating pieces for several manufacturers before setting off on his own in the 1990s, signing his own licenses under the Moore Creations and Moore Action Collectibles banners. Praised for his rendition of the female form, Moore has sculpted statues for all of the top comic publishers, and released fan-favorite toy lines based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Futurama, Witchblade, Chaos, Vampirella, Fathom, and Beavis and Butthead.
