The Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm. Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor. Both formidable matchups. But Godzilla vs King Kong? Now that's something to put bets down on.
Australians are in for a treat now that the producers behind two major film and TV productions are going to be filmed on the Gold Coast, and one is of completely epic proportions.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed this morning that Godzilla vs. Kong and TV series Reef Break have been attracted to the bourgeoning Queensland film sector.
Big both in size and in economic potential, the state's Premier says Godzilla vs. Kong will be the biggest movie to be filmed in Queensland in a while.
"Godzilla vs. Kong is the biggest blockbuster that we have seen for a long time which will be filmed on the Gold Coast," says the Premier.
Starring Stranger Things breakout actress Millie Bobby Brown, Godzilla vs. Kong is expected to be released in 2020.
Filming of the massive monster movie will commence immediately once the currently in production Dora the Explorer movie is completed.
The Premier also said that Disney's ABC Studios International will be filming television series Reef Break, starring Australian actress Poppy Montgomery, in the state's South East.
Both productions are expected to create more than 1,000 jobs for cast, crew, and extras.
The recently introduced location tax offset for international productions is said to be what is attracting these blockbusters to our shores.
"When I met with Legendary Pictures executives about Godzilla vs. Kong in Los Angeles in June, I mentioned our world-class facilities, talent and expertise we have in Queensland and they made specific mention of how the Dora offset deal dealhas provided certainty for production houses," says The Premier.
"Increasing the offset from 16.5 to 30 per cent nationally finally makes Australia world-competitive when it comes to luring international movie-makers to film their blockbusters and there's no better place than in Queensland."
"We want to see a permanent film industry created here with permanent jobs for the thousands of talented local crew and production staff and to keep providing a boost to our economy."
Queensland has been a hotbed of activity over the last few years in terms of spitting out some blockbuster films. In addition to Dora the Exporer, producers have selected Queensland as the place to make hits like Aquaman, Kong: Skull Island, Thor: Ragnarok, and Pacific Rim: Uprising.
'Star Trek: Into Darkness' is set to premiere in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday and while in the land down under many of the films stars were called out of bed on Sunday morning for a photo opp featuring 'Trek' themed surfboards.

Well it looks like the end of everything is a mere fourteen days away ... or so the Mayans have predicted. To be honest I really hadn't been too worried about the fact that a calender that was created in 3372 BC couldn't go on for infinity. I mean really the thing had to run out of space right?
Today however, I think there may be something to this doomsday mumbo jumbo after all. First off look at the date, '12-21-12' it's a series of numbers that repeats. Isn't that odd? Secondly the prime minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, recently went on television in the land down under and stated the end was indeed near.
Julia Gillard is a pretty and intelligent woman who seems to be on the ball about things, after all she was elected by the people of Australia, the same people who brought us INXS, 'Mad Max' and Yahoo Serious. So you know she's not just another political nut job.
According to Gillard to end could come from any number of sources, “Whether the final blow comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hill beasts or from the total triumph of K-Pop…”
Don't laugh bath salts are turning upstanding citizens into flesh eating monsters, hill beasts are everywhere and undoubtedly K-Pop will be the end of us all. No, Julia is really onto something here!

What can you really say about a series that has secret agents, an eagle man ..... a tiger man, sexy dames, Nazi dinosaurs and that evil, evil Adolf Hitler. It really speaks for itself doesn't it!

Generally when you mix monsters with musicals you get a rather mixed bag. On one side you have Andrew Lloyd Webber's monster hit "Phantom of the Opera" and on the other you have Universal's mind-numbingly dumb "Creature from the Black Lagoon." Now producer Carmen Pavlovic has adapted "King Kong" for the stage with the assistance of Tony award nominated writer Craig Lucas and composer Marius de Vries.
Though "Kong" will feature over 40 actors and singers the true star will be a 40-foot-tall animatronic gorilla that is being designed by Global Creatures the same company that produced the dinosaurs for "Walking With Dinosaurs."
If all goes well for "Kong" in its initial run in Melbourne, Australia later this year than Pavlovic will move the production to Broadway in 2012 before returning in 2013.
As the producer describes it the musical version of the "beauty and the beast" tale will be a story about a "a woman and a giant ape fall in love in Depression-era New York, as the ape proceeds to wreak havoc upon the city."
Thanks to the advances of modern CGI effects film makers outside the United States have been able to unleash a wonderful plethora of imaginative movie monsters.
I have written alot about new monster movie projects from Asia where film makers have taken modern effects to new limits with numerous monster and sci fi films. In countries like Japan, Korea and even China traditional effects techniques have been blended to create some very good movies that in some cases rival the productions being churned out here in Hollywood.
Today I have two entries for you, one from Australia entitled "El Monstro Del Mar" where a bunch of Rockabilly chicks go on a murder spree and unwillingly unleash a monster, and yet another from Russia called "Spores" in which a meteor falls to Earth containing parasites that grow into nasty beasties with sharp pointy teeth ...... lots of em!

A group of youthful friends go out of town on an outing and stumble upon an old Soviet factory. The factory has been long abandoned and is derelict. It transpires that alien spores have come to Earth on a meteorite, and that these spores quickly multiply and take on a monstrous form once they touch the ground. Who among the group of threatened humans will fight? Who will survive? And what will the ultimate outcome of this terror be for the planet?
Oh yes there are all kinds of alleged creatures wandering around out in the Australian wilderness. There are dinosaurs, the once believed extinct Thylacine, giant spiders, reptiles of shapes and sizes and of course Bigfoot.
Not as well known around the globe as the Yeti of Tibet, the Sasquatch of Canada or the Bigfoot from here in the good old US of A the Yowie has been a staple in folklore from the land down under for centuries.
As a matter of fact the Yowie doesn't get seen too often, due mostly to the fact that Australia has hundreds of miles of wilderness where man seldom ventures to hind in, so likewise he normally doesn't get much press.
A recent sighting, however has sparked new interest in the wild man of the outback .... no not Yahoo Serious .... what? Never heard of him? .... "Young Einstein"? .... it's a film.
Anyway, a motorist, who wanted to only be identified as Dean, was busy Tuesday morning at about 2:30 am on his usual route (Pacific Hwy, north of Grafton) as a truck driver when he spotted something strange.
“I reached the top of the hill and I was coming around the sweeping corner to the right when I noticed something a lot larger than a kangaroo in the middle of the road – my headlights weren't on it yet but it was a bright night and I saw what looked like a large person stooped over, with a big overcoat on,” Dean explains.
“At the time I thought ‘you silly old thing, what are you doing in the middle of the road at this time of the morning', but next thing I knew my headlights started to light it up and it took one giant step off the road, it went from standing up like a person to going down on all fours and then it disappeared into the scrub in about three bounds.”
The eyewitness described the creature as being well over 6-feet tall and covered with jet blck hair or fur.
“It had an almost sort of a square, shaggy block head sitting straight on its shoulders – I'm a pretty big guy but it made me absolutely awe-struck how huge its body was – it had its arm up against a tree and it had about a foot of hair hanging from under its biceps.”
The sighting has left the eyewitness rather rattled and wanting desperately to come to terms with what he saw.
“Anybody who knows me knows I'm the ultimate realist but this was an awe-inspiring moment, it's definitely made me a believer,” Dean adds.
Since his encounter Dean has been in contact with local Yowie investigators who believe his story is legit.
Is what Dean saw a monster .... some other mammal possibly some huge koala? Was it possibly another of Australia's mythical creatures, the drop bear? Was it one of the members of Men at Work out looking for food ..... or a Fosters?

For the last couple of years American independent film makers have caught a major case of the 'Bigfoot Movie Crazies' with at least a dozen movies about the legendary beast being put into production. Now, it seems that the trend has spread across the Pacific to Australia, where low-budget movie maker Cole Bayford has decided to feature the countries own version of Sasquatch in his short film entitled "Yowie".
The film itself is actually a graduate project for the Griffith University Film School: Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production Program in which Bayford is currently enrolled and is being filmed in actual Yowie country, Springbrook, NSW, a location where the creature has been sighted numerous times over the years.
Bayford had this to say about the project, "The themes in Yowie are of young love, jealousy and the ‘what if’. What would you do if you witnessed a death in the bush? Yowie explores the reality of basic human instincts and reactions. The film showcases the strength of relationships and the importance of communication between people in terror. The story delves into the speed of emotional change and rising paranoia’s effect on decisions.'
Sounds like some pretty well thought out stuff.
Here is the official synopsis:
Deep in the Australian bush, a legend lies dormant. In an effort to rekindle their relationship a couple drives into the hills for a romantic retreat. James and Vivian find themselves caught between a breakdown in their relationship and a fight for survival against a mysterious beast. What seemed like a new beginning is now a terrible encounter with the unknown. After James mistakes Angus, a harmless bushman, for the Yowie, he shoots him dead. The only way they can endure is to find a way to trust each other again, which, in this extreme situation, is easier said than done. Will they survive the night? And if they do, where will they stand after all that’s happened? This myth is deadly…
"Yowie", which is being produced by Jarred Bocca and stars Rupert Raineri, Anna Kennedy and Brendan Smoother, may only run for 10 minutes, but it looks as if Bayford has managed to squeeze a big film into a little package.
Bayford adds, “A younger audience and those of all ages who love tension and drama can sink their teeth into this psychological thriller."
Look for "Yowie" to hit the film festival circuit in 2011.

French town builds UFO landing pad Telegraph.co.uk
Arès, near Bordeaux, southwestern France, has decided to try and attract Martians to its triangular "UFOport" with its very own fake Martian craft.
Made by a local artist, the man-made UFO "landed" on the strip yesterday and, it is hoped, will entice any hesitant extraterrestrials in search of a runway. A plaque reads: "Reserved for voyagers of the universe".
The operation has been dubbed: "'Allo Arès, ici UFO." Arès built the pad in 1976 after a local airport electrician and UFO nut complained to local authorities that France had no alien craft strips.
UFO PILGRIMS could soon be flocking to Darwin after the idea to hold a UFO conference in the Top End attracted the attention of a popular tourism website.
Embraceaustralia.com raised the question of whether Darwin could be the UFO hotspot of the world only days after the latest sighting of a "hamburger-shaped" light.
Earlier this week MIX FM radio presenter Pete Davies said he would welcome UFO spotters from around the world for a UFO convention.
He pondered if the Top End should "challenge Roswell and Wycliffe Well" and make Darwin the UFO capital of the world.
He said "once we get all the federal stuff out of the road" he was looking into plans for a convention.

A bright flying object appeared for three hours. UFO was moving slowly westward, in the southwestern sky Haiyan, Zhejiang Province of China last few days ago. This has happened for so many times in the world.
These unidentified flying objects are constantly flickering at a height that is not too high and bigger and brighter than the surrounding stars. Many people witnessed the UFO that night. “I do not know what it is,” said a witness reported. They found that not only was a shining object in the sky, but its reflections in the river are also very interesting.

A local man has reported how he saw a UFO in the sky over the district.
Writing on the forum of website abovetopsecret.com, a resident of Whitley has told how he saw something in the sky on Tuesday night.
Calling himself Darkjedig, the man, who used to live in Florida, said on the forum: “I am just wanting to see if anyone in the North Yorkshire area in England, has seen a UFO tonight.
“I have been seeing a lot lately and have tried to film them on my phone camera, but they don’t show up.
Lights in sky 'too fast' to be lanterns Halifax Evening Courier
The debate over the mysterious orange UFOs that has divided Calderdale is raging on. Many readers have contacted the Courier saying they have seen people across the area releasing Chinese lanterns and these are behind the sightings.
But Brian Senior is not convinced. He says he saw three bright objects, which were joined by a further three UFOs, over Pellon near the Halfway House pub as he looked over the valley from his house.
He said: "I can't explain what they were but they were not Chinese lanterns. "They all lined up in a perfectly straight line then shot off towards Withens Road near Wainstalls.
IT was the historic UFO sighting dubbed the “Welsh Roswell”.
Locals heard a huge bang and saw a brilliant light in the sky, but Ministry of Defence files say the incident in 1974 was just a combination of an earthquake and a meteor.
Now a new book claims a key element of the events remains unexplained.
In UFO Down? The Berwyn Mountain UFO Crash, author Andy Roberts claims the authorities still cannot account for nurse Pat Evans’ description of a glowing object she saw in the North Wales mountain range.
Mrs Evans broke her long-standing silence on the issue earlier this month, when she called the official account “rubbish”.
The retired nurse, 72, told how on January 23, 1974, she and her two daughters, then aged 14 and 15, saw a “huge ball glowing and pulsating on the mountain” with “some lights scattered around it”.
The illuminations scattered around the main object were like fairy or torch lights, she said.
Mr Roberts, who has written widely about UFOs, said: “It was too big to have been a meteor and if it had been a meteor that had landed, it then becomes a meteorite.
Alien filmed live on TV in UFO hot spot Allnewsweb.com
UFO researchers have been taken by surprise by recent UFO/alien event that took place in South America.
What might well be an alien was filmed by a camera crew doing a news item and broadcast live on TV (see video below). The event took place in Santa Cruz, Argentina and the image of the alien was broadcast on that nation's channel two. The alien is seen stalking towards the person who is being interviewed. The filming and broadcast took place on August 8 of this year.
Brisbane man finally spots 'UFO' after 30yrs of waiting Sify
A man from Brisbane has finally spotted 'UFO', after spending 30 years on searching for one.
Erik Black, 49, who has been interested in UFOs since he was a child, revealed that he had only heard or read about them and had never seen a "real one" until 2010 election night.
"I have been researching UFOs for almost all my life and every time I came to the Northern Territory for holidays I read a UFO story in the newspaper, so I thought the NT was the place to be," the Courier Mail quoted him as telling the NT News.
With all the news sites buzzing about the recent pair of UFO sightings in China, this story out of Australia seems to have flown under the radar.
No pun intended.
Spectators at a local rodeo in Katherine, Australia were taken completely by surprise when a bright shining object slowly flew over their heads, then suddenly without warning, disappeared without a trace.
The aerial phenomena was witnessed by numerous bystanders at around 6:20pm both in and around the Katherine showgrounds.
"At first, I thought it was a plane that had caught my eye in the sky,'' exclaimed Mel Auty, a 35-year-old resident of Camira, Queensland.
"But it was more like a falling star, just not falling. It was slowly making its way across the sky.
"And it wasn't dark enough for stars to be out.
"It was going across the sky for maybe five seconds, before it suddenly disappeared."
"There was this bright thing and then it was gone," adds 8-year-old Rikkasha Barcley.
"It was really strange. I don't know what it was. It was there, then it was gone."
32-year old Vicki Mulholland was watching the rodeo, when the bright object distracted her from the show, "I looked up and something went across the sky."
"It kept going and going and suddenly it was gone just as if someone had switched if off."
What makes this sighting so important, is the fact that it is somewhat similar too what has been witnessed over China in the last two weeks.

Just about everyone has heard about America's Bigfoot, Canada's Sasquatch, Russia's Alma and Nepal's Yeti, but these aren't the only upright walking harry cryptids out there. Australia has one of their own, called the Yowie, and the man who has devoted his life to tracking it believes strong evidence to prove it's existence may be close at hand.
Tim the "Yowie Man" has set up camp in the village of Springbrook, Queensland (Eastern Australia) in hopes that the recent torrential rains and flooding in the area will flush out the elusive creature.
“Historical records indicate that there is a direct correlation between significant rain events in this part of Queensland and the sightings of Australia’s fabled Yowie,” the researcher explains.
He also adds “Rain to the extent experienced up here in the last week would make a large hairy bipedal hominid creature very uncomfortable and potentially force it into areas it might not otherwise frequent. The soaked soil and muddy bogs created by the heavy rain is more conducive to animals, including Yowies, leaving their footprints.”
Indeed the creature has been seen more frequently as of late. This past April two vacationing backpackers from Germany and France spotted a Yowie in Katoomba, New South Wales. The two young ladies were approached by a very large harry animal that was making a lot of noise. When they used a flashlight to locate it in the dark, it ran off.
"Admittedly we did not get a close look but we think what we saw looked like the American Bigfoot, basically covered in fur and about two meters tall. It definitely had no clothes on and was not human.” Reported Ingrid Schoen from Germany. “We were petrified and almost lost our way back in our nervous state” she continued.
The recent heavy rains have already forced several animals out of the woods and into populated areas. In fact the town of Bowen was recently over-run by giant Eastern Taratulas fleeing the rising water.
The above image is one of the best photographs of the Yowie, taken in 2006. If you ask me, the creature doesn't as much look like a Bigfoot as it does Bugs Bunny's nemesis Gossamer or Godzilla's foe Hedorah (The Smog Monster), but whatever it is, it looks big, harry and mysterious.
Will the rain bring out the elusive monster? The Yowie man is optamistic "If I’m really lucky I may even get to see one.”
The title of this article may sound like some sort of bad racial joke, but it is really appropriate. Indeed, several countries will have their hands in the production of the live action, English language, movie adaptation of the popular Japanese 'cyperpunk' anime, "Bubblegum Crisis."
Oh, and the answer to the question is six.
Yesterday at Cannes, producers from Singapore, Japan, Canada, Australia, China and the UK sat down and signed the paperwork to begin work on the $30 million film.
Apparently new international treaties paved the way for the production, including the Singapore-Australia, Australia-Canada, Canada-Singapore, China-Australia and China-Canada co-production treaties. Not only do these treaties open the door for international production, they also will provide for the financing of the film through grants provided by the numerous governments. It is estimated that 70% of the films budget is already in place.
The massive multi-national production will be overseen by Benjamin Toh of Singapore's Axxis International, who will act as the movies executive producer. Before him is the daunting task of managing a production that will utilize several different film companies in several different countries, including Japan's Anime International Company, Australia's Arclight Films, Canada's Wizzfilms, China's Infotainment China Media Co. and the U.K.'s Latec International.
At this point it is planned that principal photography will take place in Australia and post production will take place in Canada.
The Director and cast have yet to be decided. A spokesman for Axxis stated that "Crisis" will feature two male leads and a quartet of females as the infamous "Knight Sabers" from the original animated series, with two being Caucasian and two Asian.

The eight-episode series begins in early 2032, seven years after an earthquake has split Tokyo in two. During the first episode, disparities in wealth are shown to be more pronounced than in previous periods in post-war Japan.
Genom is a fictional corporation, shown to have immense power. Genom's main product are Boomers: artificial beings used for manual labor. While Boomers are intended to serve mankind, they become deadly instruments in the hands of ruthless individuals. The AD Police are tasked to deal with Boomer-related crimes. A recurring theme of the series is the inability of the department to deal with threats due to political infighting, red tape, and an insufficient budget.
The Knight Sabers are analogues of the all-female sentai fighting teams, and as such were depicted as having tremendous combat abilities using powered armor suits. Throughout the OVA series, they battle against long odds to overcome grave threats and preserve the overall safety of Megatokyo.
Many of you sci fi and horror movie fans may remember the 1977 cult movie, "Kingdom of the Spiders?" What? You don't? Okay, the film starred William Shatner (you may remember him as Captain James T Kirk from Star Trek) as a veterinarian in small Arizona town that is over-run by blood-thirsty tarantulas. Still doesn't ring a bell?
Okay, as I said before the film is about the residents of a small Arizona town that is over-run by tarantulas who have started eating live-stock, small pets and people because their natural source of food has been wiped out by pesticides.
Now flash forward to present day, 2009, were a small town in Australia is being over-run by......wait for it......giant tarantulas.
Indeed, giant bird-eating tarantulas (Eastern Tarantulas), generally over 6 inches long, have invaded the town of Bowen, Australia. This time around, however, it is not a quest for human blood that has brought the eight-legged giants out of the woods, it's heavy rains and flooding.
While the monster spiders may not be a threat to humans (not yet) they have been known to kill small dogs and cats.
Don't you just love it when the events of fantasy movie happen in real life?
I wonder if the tarantulas will cover the whole town of Bowen in a giant web like they did at the end of "Kingdom of the Spiders"?
Probably not......but how cool would that be? Well, maybe not for the people of Bowen.

The Australian production company, Resolution Independent, is presently working on a movie adaptation of Ashley Wood's comic book series "Popbot." The production team plans to do the film, "300" style, combining a lot of live action with animation. Presently the effects crew is building robots like crazy in preparation for principal photography.
What can the viewer expect from "Popbot"? Well just read this quote from Resolution Independents' website:
"Popbot promises to put sex, humour, punk music, screeching talking cats, more sex, giant f***ing robots, homicidal sexbots and t-shirt wearing-katana wielding-samurai bad ass motherf***ers back into Sci-Fi and onto the big screen! "
F**k Yeh!.....oh, sorry....
"Popbot" sounds like the kinda film that will appeal to us testosterone laden sci fi geeks. Hey, hot chicks and robots are always a winning combination in my book.

"Popbot", known for it's images of sexy women engaging in rather risque poses with robots, has enjoyed underground success worldwide.
Phil George and the rest of his band were driving home at around 12:13 in the morning when they spotted a bright orange light in the night sky. The group pulled over and got out of their vehicles to get a better look. The object they saw made a excelerated turn and shot off into space at a 45 degree angle. George was able to snap a photo of the object before it sped away, but as you can see, all he managed to capture was a small dot.
Here is George's account that he submitted to the 3AW 363 News Talk website:
"There was no absolutely noise whatsoever, no jet or propeller sound whatsoever and no Aircraft lights. It was Bright orange in colour and had a ring of pin spot lights around the 'front' of it. It also had a red light on its underside. Please zoom in the photo to reveal more detail."
"It travelled to our left up around 5000 feet and it was the Brightest thing in the dark sky. You could see other stars but they were dim compared to the UFO. It put on a display for around 2-3 minutes and then it stopped, then changed direction (it did NOT turn...!) then it sped off at a 45 degree angle upwards at amazing speed. Way faster than a human Aircraft."
"It was completely out of view in around 8 seconds. Five people all witnessed the UFO and we all concluded it was not a Human Made Aircraft."
Maybe it was the "Federation of Light" coming to apologize to Blossom Goodchild for standing her up on October 14th?
The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single "Cookie". Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop. Hamilton has also recently collaborated with Perth based band End of Fashion on their second album "Book of Lies"
The Presets are signed to Sydney record label Modular Recordings, home of The Avalanches, Cut Copy and Wolfmother. The Presets are set to go on tours in 2008 around the UK and the US. They have gained increasing amounts of publicity around the US and UK, are gaining popularity around the globe.
The Presets released their first EP "Blow Up" in 2003. It was fairly popular and started out The Presets' career. As a follow up to that EP they released another EP, named "Girl and the Sea" in 2004. Around that time the Presets got small gigs around nightclubs etc.
Due to great critic response, The Presets released their Debut Album, "Beams" on the 20th of May 2005 and was a huge success. To further promote the duo, they decided to release a single named "Are You The One?", which was a great success in the dance scene. After that, The Presets toured around the UK and the US for 3 years, promoting their band. While in the UK, Kim and Jules released "Down Down Down" and "I Go Hard, I Go Home" in 2006 but they were only available in the United Kingdom. The tour was another success.
Towards the end of the Tour, The Presets released another UK only Single, named "Truth & Lies". It featured two songs, which were averagely popular, but majorly successful. Towards the end of 2007, The Presets released "My People" which was huge in Australia and then eventually in the UK and US. Due to the good response to it, they released their second album, Apocalypso which was on the iTunes number 1 spot for weeks and months in Australia and was huge. It is still currently on the top 10 list and is number 1 on the Electronic genre of music albums. In May 2008, The Presets released an EP, Single and a All Remixed Edition for "This Boy's In Love" which the song of the same name was still becoming used and played on the radio before its release on a Single/EP. As of May, The Presets are still on their UK and US tour and have released their third single from "Apocalypso", Single/Ep "Talk Like That".
