The Most Talked About Stories Of 2008

Normally Monster Island News readers are a pretty tight lipped bunch. Generally they let the authors here do most of the talking. There were, however, a few articles that got the fans emotional enough to sit down to add in their two cents worth.

The articles that they chose to write responses to say a lot about the readers here. They don't care about politics or social issues. Instead they care about giant robots, Batman, and crappy convention food.

Here are the articles from 2008 that drew the most fan feedback:

When Daniel Radcliffe hinted that there may be some sex in drugs in the next Harry Potter movie fans voiced their scepticism. These movies are supposed to be for kids right?

Author Blossom Goodchild said that aliens had informed her that they would appear in the skies over Alabama on October 14th. Amazing enough they didn't show.

Celebrities love to talk politics, but who would you rather listen to, Paris Hilton or Chuck Norris?

Batman rumor articles are starting become the norm here. What could be a juicier story than a hot looking actress like Angelina Jolie getting Catwoman advice from a porn star like Tera Patrick?

Combine a martial arts performing giant robot with a very funny Korean TV commercial and you have the recipe for a great article.

Many great actors and actresses passed away in 2008. The fans here chose to pay their respects to the man who played the "Gill-Man" in "Creature From The Black Lagoon." Everyone loved Ben Chapman. He will be missed.

Is There? We still don't know for sure. If there is then it is tight lipped secret.

There were high hopes for the Robotech movie. Now it looks like "Transformers" all over again.

Batman rumors again. How awful would Eddie Murphy be as "The Riddler"? Egads!

The plain truth is, the fans demand good food, and if they don't get it? All hell can break loose!

Surprise! More Strange Lights Over The UK

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Birmingham Mail

Now when it comes to UFO sightings there are such things as non-credible witnesses, like a confused guy who calls in to an Air Force recruiting office looking for their "UFO Division", and a credible witness, like a 47 year old pilot.

Andrew Freke, who is a 47 year old pilot, was out in his Ashbrook Crescent, Solihull, backyard on Christmas Eve, when he noticed some strange lights overhead. At first there was just one bright orange object, but shortly later five more similar objects joined the first and hovered above him.

Freke explains, "“First of all I thought it was a star but then I saw it moving. It was going at about 150 miles per hour and was flying at about 2,000 feet.I knew it wasn’t a plane or a helicopter and that’s when I got a bit excited and shouted for my wife and kids who were indoors. There were three pairs of these things flying around for about 15 seconds.I have no idea what they were, it’s very weird.”

While Freke's family watched the objects, he dashed inside to grab his camera. The resulting image was no more than an orange dot in the night sky.

Freke hopes that more can be learned about the objects from his photograph, “I’m sure there is a way of calculating how big the aircraft was by working out the scale on the photo."

Presently the Solihull resident is hoping that someone else will come forward to back up his story and possibly shed more light on sighting.

“There must be an explanation for this. Maybe someone out there knows what they were.”

If You Spot A UFO Don't Contact Your Air Force Recruiter

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Myrtle Beach Online

A man left a string of messages on a Myrtle Beach Air Force recruiting offices answering machine on Christmas Day to report that he had seen a UFO and its extraterrestrial occupants. The caller, who identified himself as the son of a US Army tank commander, said he was trying to reach the "Air Force UFO Division".

On Monday a female recruitment officer discovered the numerous messages and contacted the Myrtle Beach police, who in turn contacted the man and instructed him not to harass the office anymore.

The police report on the incident noted that the caller sounded confused and somewhat incoherent on the recorded messages.

This is a lesson that everyone should learn. If you are mentally unstable or you have had a few, and you think that you are seeing something weird, then you should probably just go to bed and get some sleep. If you really have to tell someone, then contact your nearest Air Force base and ask for the people in charge of "Project Blue Book." If that doesn't work then contact the FBI and ask for agents Mulder or Scully.

Stuff like this really hampers genuine UFO research.

Can A Werewolf, Vampire And Ghost Share A London Flat?

Source: BBC

Russell Tovey (Little Dorrit, Doctor Who, The History Boys), Lenora Crichlow (Sugar Rush, Doctor Who, Kiss Of Death) and Aidan Turner (The Clinic) star as housemates trying to live normal lives despite very unusual afflictions in Being Human, a witty, sexy and thrilling six-part drama by Touchpaper Television for BBC Three.

Following the lives of the twenty-somethings and their secret double-lives, as a werewolf, vampire and ghost, Being Human was first transmitted in February 2008 as a 60-minute special as a part of BBC Three's drama pilot season.

Popular with viewers and critics alike, the pilot peaked at nearly 450,000 viewers whilst gaining rave reviews and online petitions begging for a series to be commissioned.

Russell Tovey reprises his role as the lovable George, battling with his double identity as a mild-mannered and geeky hospital porter who for one night a month is transformed into a flesh-hungry, predatory werewolf.

Aidan Turner plays the good-looking and laid-back Mitchell who, in contrast to George, has the gift of the gab and an easy confidence with the ladies. But he is also a blood-sucking vampire struggling with going cold-turkey from the blood he craves.

Completing the flat-share trio is Annie, played by Lenora Crichlow, a talkative ghost lacking in self-confidence and desperate for company. Annie is still pining after her fiancé, whom she was due to marry before the fatal accident that left her with her ghostly affliction, and who happens to be the landlord of their flat.

The series follows the trio as they do their best to live their lives as normally as possible despite their strange and dark secrets.

But with unwelcome intruders into their world, rumblings about an impending revolution from the vampire underworld and constant threats of exposure, on top of the usual issues faced by young people surrounding love, work and mates – the only thing they may be able to rely on in their heightened world, is each other.

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama Commissioning, BBC Wales, says: "Being Human uniquely combines the drama and complexity of ordinary life with the heightened excitement of the supernatural world, in a vibrant, witty and compelling way.

"The six-part series sees our twenty-something friends embark on extraordinary journeys as they battle their inner demons and the outside world, and struggle to find out what it really means to be human."

Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC Three, comments: "Being Human touched a nerve with young audiences when the pilot was transmitted. Powerful writing, a strong cast and imaginative direction come together in a really exciting new original drama series for BBC Three."

Being Human is written by Toby Whithouse (Being Human pilot, Torchwood, Doctor Who), produced by Matthew Bouch (The Sarah Jane Adventures, Being Human pilot), directed by Toby Haynes (M.I. High, Spooks Code 9), Alex Pillai (Wire In The Blood) and Colin Teague (Torchwood, Doctor Who), and executive produced by Rob Pursey (City Of Vice, Sold) and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama for BBC Wales.

Beyonce To Become Marooned On Gilligan's Island?

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: WENN

God, I really wish Hollywood would stop raping shows from my childhood! They've ruined "The Beverly Hillbillies", "The Flintstones", and now they are going to give it to "Gilligan's Island."

Sherwood Schwartz has reportedly signed on to make a movie version of the 60s sitcom that featured a group of castaways marooned on a remote pacific island.

According to TV Guide, Schwartz is eyeing Arrested Development star Michael Cera to play Gilligan and pop singer Beyonce to play Ginger.

Oh God NOOOOOOOO!

Can somebody come up with an original idea for a change and leave classic TV alone?!

Can anyone say "Bombs Away?" These movies always end up reeking like year old garbage. Why do they keep on insisting on making them?

Philip Seymour Hoffman As The Penguin Or Not

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: i09.com / Avery Guerra

Will the Penguin be in the next Batman movie? Will Catwoman? How about The Riddler? It may be too early to know for sure, but that hasn't stopped people from spreading rumors like wild-fire has it?

Case in point, now there is an image floating around that shows Philip Seymour Hoffman in a make-up test for the Penguin. Is it a real studio photo or has someone been playing with Photoshop again? No one knows for sure.

If indeed we will be getting another Batman vs Catwoman and Penguin movie, then so be it, but do we need a remake of "Batman Returns?"

Hold on to your seats. This rumor crap will keep going strong, I fear.

Over the past year several websites have linked to articles and reviews here at Monster Island News. Now it is time to repay the favor and acknowledge them for the traffic and interest in the site.

Here is a list of the top 20 referring sites who have linked to us. Unlike the other lists that I have been posting, I will not be putting in my two cents about the sites. Being a webmaster, I really hate to judge someone else's site whether good or bad. I will let you decide on that yourself. I happen to like all these sites....so take that for what it is.

The First Trailer For Deep Sea Monster Raiga

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Nippon Cinema / Avery Guerra

Shinpei Hayashiya didn't waste any time in making a sequel to "Deep Sea Monster Reigo", which began production in 2003, was filmed in 2005, and released in August of this year. The film entitled, "Deep Sea Monster Raiga", is set 60 years after the events in "Reigo", which took place during WWII.

This time, Global Warming is the catalyst for unleashing giant monsters on Japan. The melting of the southern polar ice causes a disruption in Earth's ecosystem that causes the migration of the monsters to the island nation.

The largest of the sea monsters is a beast called "Raiga", which unleashes it's "Inconvenient Truth" on Tokyo just like Godzilla, Gamera, Mothra and Rodan have numerous times.

The monster "Raiga" looks a lot like Godzilla, but hopefully not enough to get Toho's lawyers panties in a bunch.

I think that is is great to see other Japanese film companies stepping up to the plate and creating their own kaiju films while Toho sits on their monster franchise.

Although we are all still waiting for the return of the "King."

The Top Ten Hottest Monsters Of 2008

Okay, here we go again! Another nutty "Best Of" list. This time we are going to have some fun though.

Remember these results are based on your searches through Google and the Monster Island News internal search engine.

Since this is primarily a monster movie website. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of the most popular monsters of 2008. Amazingly enough, with all the new monster films being made this year, the list is dominated by classic creatures.

Here we go! The "Hottest Monsters of 2008!"

10. King Ghidorah

The appearance of King Ghidorah on a "Best of 2008" list is a surprise to say the least. The last time our three-headed friend made a movie appearance was back in 2004. Yet here he is. I can only guess that the appearance of a three-headed dragon in "The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor" had something to do with new interest in good old King Ghidorah. See: Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster (1964) or search:

9. Mothra

Okay, we are two monsters in and already we have our second Japanese monster. Once again we would have to go back to 2004 for the last time Mothra was in a film. I guess this just goes to show that Toho's giant monsters are just as popular as ever. Oh, before I forget. This is the only female monster to make our list. See: Mothra (1961) or search

8. MechaGodzilla

We have a "Hat Trick!" Three monsters in and three Japanese monsters listed. I really don't have an explanation for the popularity of MechaGodzilla in 2008? Maybe it has something to do with continuing popularity of Yumiko Shaku? Who Knows? Toho needs to start making monster movies again. See: Godzilla X MechaGodzilla (2002)(Toho)

7. The Mummy

Okay, here we go. A monster that I can expect on on 2008 list. With the release of "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" starring Brendan Fraser this year. You would expect major interest in resurrected Egyptian dead. Of course I had to use a photo of the Boris Karloff version of "The Mummy". You know I love the classics. See The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (2008)(Universal) or The Mummy (1932) or search:

6. King Kong

Kong is still king in 2008! Once again no new movie is behind this one. King Kong is the grandfather of all giant movie monsters. It looks like Monster Island News readers have been giving the "old man" the respect he deserves. Search:

5. Creature From The Black Lagoon

With a new "Creature From The Black Lagoon" movie coming soon, and the passing of suite actor Ben Chapman, you would think that the "Gill-Man" would rate a high ranking. New photos from "Life Magazine" also surfaced this past year, so "The Creature" has been getting the bulk of the monster press in 2008. See: Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954) or Ben Chapman (1928 - 2008) or search:

4. Frankenstein

Good old Franky. Even after all these years, the image of Boris Karloff as "The Monster" (Frankenstein was the scientist) is the most iconic in the horror genre. God, they just don't make movies like that anymore. Frankenstein will forever be one the greatest movie monsters. See: Frankenstein (1931) or search:

3. Monster

What? A modern creation made it onto the list? There must be some mistake? The overwhelming interest in J.J. Abrams "Cloverfield" lead to massive interest in the movie that, for all intents and purposes, copied it. "Monster" is essentially the same movie as "Cloverfield", except this one takes place in Tokyo (go figure?) instead of New York City. See: Monster (2008)

2. Godzilla

I honestly thought that Godzilla would take the number one spot. There is one thing that I have learned in all my years writing about monster movies, everyone loves Godzilla. Even people who won't admit it to your face. Godzilla's popularity extends beyond race, creed, and social standing. Godzilla is a worldwide phenomena. The sooner that Toho realizes it, the better. See: Godzilla King of the Monsters (1955) or search:

1. Cloverfield

Was there any doubt? J.J. Abrams unique take on the giant monster genre entitled, "Cloverfield" was on every ones mind in the early part of 2008. The film may have failed to set the box office on fire, but it got people excited about monster movies again. The film also got a whole new generation of independent film makers interested in making their own monster films. This one will always be remembered for ushering in a whole new generation of monster movies.

The Land Of The Lost Movie Poster

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Avery Guerra

Avery Guerra just shot me an e-mail with a link to the brand new "Land of the Lost" movie poster.

I have to admit that I am really torn about this one. Not, about the poster, it looks pretty cool. I mean the film itself. The fact that it is a comedy, really doesn't sit well with me. I really think that the 70s TV series could have been made into a great, straight-forward, sci fi film.

I have been trying to keep an open mind.......but, it has been hard.

Top Ten Hottest Women Of 2008

As you know 2008 is drawing to a close, so it is time to start composing those annoying "Best Of"" lists. Here at Monster Island News, however, we do it a little bit differently. I certainly could compose my own list, based on what I thought was the "hottest" of 2008, but that would just be my opinion.

What I decided to do was let you the reader decide. Now, I could have posted a poll or something, but those normally turn out to be a mess. Instead I decided to compile the lists based on your searches through Google and our internal search engine.

So if you don't like the lists, then you can blame yourselves. These are the things you searched for.

So, let's get started. Here is a list guaranteed to melt the snow off your roof. The Hottest Women of 2008!

10. Natalie Martinez

Natalie Martinez made quite a impression in 2008. The Cuban born actress turned many a mans head when she stared as Case in "Death Race". See: Natalie Martinez Adds Some Latin Fire To Death Race or search: Natalie Martinez

9. Eriko Sato

American fans were first exposed to the busty Japanese actress, Eriko Sato, back in 2004 when she starred in the live-action movie adaptation of the popular anime, "Cutie Honey". Apparently Eriko is still a "Cutie" in the eyes of the fans. See: Kyûteî Hanî / Cutie Honey or search:

8. Amanda Tapping

Amanda Tapping has become the Sci Fi Channel's "Golden Girl" starring in both "Stargate Atlantis" and "Sanctuary." Fans certainly have made it clear that they would love to travel to any point in the universe with the lovely Amanda Tapping. See: Sci Fi Orders Another Season Of Sanctuary or search:

7. Emilie Ullerup

Emilie Ullerup is the second actress to make our list from the Sci Fi Channel series "Sanctuary."I may feel that the show is just a rip-off of the BBC series "Torchwood", but Monster Island News readers don't agree with that. Emilie Ullerup is Hot! See: Sci Fi Orders Another Season Of Sanctuary

6. Harumi Nemoto

As a fan was quick to point out, the busty Japanese model/actress, Harumi Nemoto, really hasn't done much since 2004. That really hasn't stopped the fans from looking for more photos of her though. Hopefully we haven't heard the last of Harumi Nemoto! See: Future Star Profile: Harumi Nemoto or search:

5. Olivia Munn

Starring on the G4 series "Attack of the Show" has turned Olivia Munn into a fanboy favorite. Then again dressing in a Princess Leia "Slave-Girl" costume at a "Star Wars" convention probably would help make you a fanboy favorite as well. See: Future Star Profile - Olivia Munn
or search:

4. Yumiko Shaku

Many of Japanese actress Yumiko Shaku's sci fi and fantasy films have been released around the globe, so her high ranking on our list isn't unexpected. Miss Shaku won the “E-Line Beautiful” award this year for having the most beautiful face in Japan. See Also: Yumiko Shaku - Profile & Photos or search:

3. Anita Briem

Icelandic beuty, Anita Briem, has had a very busy year starring alongside Brendan Fraser in the remake of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and making a fan favorite episode of the UK series "Doctor Who" . Being from Iceland, it is easy to see how Anita Briem could warm the fans hearts. See: Actress Profile - Anita Briem or search:

2. Christine Nguyen

When the Saigon born actress, Christine Nguyen, starred in the anime inspired adult film, "Super Ninja Doll", you just knew that she was going to start getting a lot more sci fi fan attention. Of course being an adult film star brings another element to the table as well. I'm sure that anyone who has watched Cinemax late at night knows all about Christine Nguyen's....um.....talents. See Also: Actress Profile - Christine Nguyen or search:

1. Haruka Ayase

One of the highest grossing films in Japan this year was "Cyborg She" (My Girlfriend Is A Cyborg), so it is no surprise that the film's lead actress, Haruka Ayase, would be a sought after commodity. Haruka found working on the film to be a challenge due to the language barrier between her and Korean movie director, Jae-Yong Kwak. "Mr Kwak taught me acting through gestures and facial emotions." Ayase also took a very playful approach to her robot character, "“Because I don’t have an opportunity to punch men, I enjoyed doing it during production.” I'm sure there are a lot of men out there that are happy that she got to live that fantasy out on the set.

Now male fans worldwide will want their very own Haruka Ayase cyborg. I guess it's time to trade in my "Lucy Liu Bot" for a new model!

Godzilla Rodan Ultraman And Mothra Invade The Miami Beach Art Scene

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: The Examiner / Art Center Of South Florida

Anyone who doubts the influences of Japanese monster movies on popular culture should take a good look at a current exhibit at the Art Center of South Florida. The exhibit, entitled, "Kaiju Monster Invasion: Miami Beach" features vinyl figures, statues, toys, paintings and other various forms of art inspired by Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman and all their friends. The works on display were created by Pop Surrealists from around the globe, including Coop, Ron English, Mark Nagata and Skot Olsen.

I have to admit that this one flew under my radar. The exhibit opened back on December 2nd, but fear not. There is still time to check it out. "Kaiju Monster Invasion: Miami Beach" (Curated by Harold Golen) runs until January 4th, 2009.

Here is the official info:

Kaiju Monster Invasion: Miami Beach
Curated by Harold Golen

Opens December 2, - January 4, 2008
Opening Reception, Wednesday, December 3 (Guess we kinda missed that)

ArtCenter / South Florida
800 Lincoln Road
Miami Beach, FL 33139
Website - HERE

This is exhibition featuring Japanese monster-inspired interpretations by renowned contemporary western and eastern artists. The Japanese word Kaiju, which translates to “strange beast” or “monster”, first emerged in post-war Japan in the 1950s and 1960s. After experiencing the Atomic Bomb, Godzilla (a radioactive lizard) and Gamera (a giant flying turtle) became the mutant brainchildren of anti-nuclear cinema. Now a half-century later, Lowbrow and Pop Surrealists including Coop, Ron English, Mark Nagata and Skot Olsen have been inspired by and amassed their very own collections of the famed vinyl monsters.

I just love that painting of "King Ceasar". I wonder if the artist will ever sell prints of it?

40 Years Since Apollo 8

Above, the Earth as seen by the Apollo 8 astronauts in moon orbit.

by Armand Vaquer

It is hard to believe that forty years have passed since Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders were the first humans to leave Earth orbit and to travel to the moon in Apollo 8.

Their mission in December 1968 was to test the Apollo spacecraft's systems in achieving moon orbit, which was crucial for a manned moon landing. Originally, they were going to test the Lunar Module (LM) in Earth orbit, but production delays prevented that plan. So NASA sent them to the moon instead. They orbited the moon ten times in 20 hours. The live televised broadcast from the moon was highlighted by Borman's reading from Genesis. The rocket engine that would break Apollo 8 from moon orbit and sending it back to earth was fired on Christmas Day.

1968 was a year of turmoil. It was marked by bitter civil unrest over the Viet Nam War, the assassinations of Sen. Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King and the Tet Offensive, which led to President Lyndon Johnson to not seek re-election. The Apollo 8 mission was the only inspiring event that year.

It is hard to believe that 40 years have passed since Apollo 8.

The Plot For New Remake Of The Thing Sounds Just Like Carpenter's

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Horror-Movies.ca / Bloody Disgusting / Avery Guerra

I have to be honest, the plot for the latest remake of "The Thing" (aka: The Thing From Another World), sounds pretty damn lame.

"The Thing", which was originally made in 1951 by Christian Nyby, was brilliantly remade in 1982 by John Carpenter. Film makers essentially have been remaking the film over and over. Lets be honest, "Alien", "Creature", "It! The Terror From Beyond Space" and countless others, are all remakes of "The Thing."

The film's basic premise, a group of people marooned or isolated with a man-killing monster with no possible escape, is a great concept for a truly suspenseful movie, but lets face it, it has been done, and done very well.

Yet, movie makers can't leave it alone.

That brings us to this latest remake. This time it will be the exact same film as Carpenter's 1982 version, only told from the Norwegian camps point of view. Yes, you read that right. It is the exact same story, from someone else's point of view.

It just makes you ask, "why?" We have already seen this film before, why do we need to see it again from another perspective?

Is Hollywood really this tapped for new ideas? Sounds like a real waste of time and money. Am I right?

Here is the plot from Bloody Disgusting:

"In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog.

The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over."

It was mentioned that the film is to be a prequel in there, but it still sounds like the 1982 film to me.

A Brand-New Trailer For Tim Burton's 9

Tim Burton has lent his talents to yet another animated feature, which from the trailer, looks a lot like cross between "Nightmare Before Christmas" and "The Terminator." This, of course, should have Burton fans jumping up-and-down with ecstasy.

The film, which is called "9", is a post-apocalyptic adventure directed by Shane Acker and produced by Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.

"9" features a real all-star cast of "A" list actors who have signed on to voice the films characters. That list includes Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilly, Elijah Wood, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, and Martin Landau.

Here the official synopsis:

When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Looks like a "can't miss hit!"

UFO Cult Cancels Mass Orgy

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Y Net News

Okay, I know that this is probably not an appropriate article to be writing on "Christmas Eve", and as a Christian I should be ashamed of myself, but, this story is just to weird to pass up.

It seems that the UFO cult known as the "Raelian Movement" has caved in and canceled their scheduled mass orgy in Tel Aviv. The event, which was planned for "International Orgasm Day", received a massive amount of negative public outcry and the the owner of the venue where the "sex fest" was to be held received several death threats.

The group's spokesman, Kobi Drori, explains that it was the cults hope to achieve world peace through multiple orgasms reached by masturbation or sex, by straights, gays, lesbians and bisexuals, all over 18. "The purpose of the event was to try and bring world peace through mass orgasm, this by experiencing consensual sex and natural, uninterrupted pleasure. It was important to make love without feeling guilty or shy," he explained.

The "Raelian Movement" believe that mankind has developed a taste for violence, while love and pleasure has become taboo. "It should be the other way around. Several years ago an Iraqi boy whose limbs were amputated was shown on TV and everybody treated this as if it was okay, but when Janet Jackson exposed her breast during the Superbowl the American nation was appalled.

"We wanted to put into practice the saying 'make love, not war'"

The orgy was to be the first of several events planned by the "Raelians", who believe man was created by aliens, in 2009.

On January 22 the group plans to hold a conference on sexuality and masturbation with experts and writers in the field.

According to Drori the UFO based religion has some 70,000 members worldwide, "We don't believe in demons, ghosts and gods," he explains. "The group's primary goal is to inform humanity, without attempting to persuade, regarding scientific messages that deal with the origins of life on earth.

"The second goal is to expedite the establishment of a society based on the principles of non-violence, solidarity, self-fulfillment and pleasure. To establish one global currency, one global government and harness science to the service of humanity, and not against humanity," he concluded.

Kate Beckinsale Wants The Catwoman Role For Herself

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: WENN

Okay, before I get into this, I want to mention that this info comes from WENN, which I am starting to call "The Bureau of Miss-Information."

From the second that "The Dark Knight" hit theaters this past summer, there has been a swell of rumors surrounding the next Batman movie. Just about all of these rumors have been in regards to the "Catwoman" character and the actress who could play her. For months Christopher Nolan denied that he was even going to make another movie. Regardless the names kept a coming. First there was Cher, then there was Angelina Jolie, and as of last week Rachel Weisz was supposed to have landed the coveted role.

Well here we go, yet again. Now Kate Beckinsale is eying a date with a tight spandex cat suite. The actress, best known for the "Underworld" films wants to add more action roles to her resume a she thinks playing "Catwoman" in the upcoming "Gotham" film would be just the ticket.

So far there has been no official talk between Nolan and Beckinsale, that anyone knows about, but that isn't stopping the actress from making her interest known publicly.

Beckinsale recently told MTV.com, "Absolutely, that would be awesome. I'd love to do that." She then went on to talk about what a surprise it was for her to land the lead role in "Underworld," because she never was a very physical person, "One of the things I've done wrong with my career is not have a massive game plan for it. I was very surprised to ever find myself even considered for an action movie. I'm like the literary, academic geek who's not very good at sports, so it was amazingly shocking that anyone would ever do that. I like to be surprised."

Weisz, Beckinsale, Jolie or Cher? My God, what a mess. There hasn't even been any official word that "Catwoman" will even be in the film.

Then of course, there is that whole Eddie Murphy as "The Riddler" junk. Man I hope that isn't true!

"Gotham" was only announced a week ago and already my head is starting to spin.

Another UFO Photographed Over The UK

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Sunday Mercury (UK)

Once again we find another example of why the UK has become the worlds number one hot-spot for seeing unexplained airborne phenomena.

Robert Teuu took a set of photographs of the Cannock Town Centre to try out his brand-new camera. When he got home and downloaded the pictures to his computer he discovered something odd hovering above the LA Rock Cafe in one of the shots.

At first he thought that his eyes were playing tricks on him. He was certain that the object had to be a plane or a bird. Then he zoomed in on the object, that's when it became clear that what was in the photo was something extraterrestrial.

“It’s not an aircraft. It must be some kind of UFO. I know that sounds crazy, but I cannot think of it being anything else really.” Teuu told the Sunday Mercury. “I zoomed into the object and was even more puzzled. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,”

It isn't surprising that someone could accidentally photograph a UFO over the Cannock area. The town has reportedly been the location of several credible sightings over the decades.

Recently declassified government documents describe numerous sightings over the town and surrounding area. Silent, rotating lights around the Pye Green Tower, cigar-shaped objects hovering over Burntwood, and a 10ft hovering light over the Stafford Road have all been investigated by the British Government according to documents.

It has also been revealed that between 1986 and 1992 the British Ministry of Defence was in constant contact with local authorities trying to come up with an explanation for the numerous UFO reports coming from Cannock.

I guess it would be hard to explain away what Robert Teuu photographed by saying they were "Christmas Lights".

There Is No Need To Fear, Rosemary's Baby Has Been Aborted

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: WENN

Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have decided to scrap their plans to remake the 1968 horror film "Rosemary's Baby ". The duo has been searching desperately for any fresh ideas that could put a modern spin on the classic film that was based on a 1967 novel by Ira Levin. Ultimately they failed at every attempt.

Andrew Form explains, "We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be do-able. We couldn't come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was, so we're now not going to be doing that film."

The original film, "Rosemary's Baby" was directed by Roman Polanski and starred Mia Farrow as a naive housewife who is raped by an evil presence and is forced to give birth to the spawn of the Devil.

Tannant Would Like To See The Doctor Sing And Dance

Written By: Ken Hulsey

David Tennant has received rave reviews for his portrayal of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" during the recent London production and has received numerous accolades for his "Doctor Who" role on television. Now the British actor would like to put all his eggs in one basket. Recently Tennant made it very clear that believed that the long running sci fi series could easily be made into a musical.

Before you start lining up for "Doctor Who" on Broadway, Tennant was quick to point out that such a production would be better suited for the small screen than a large scale stage show. Well, at least if they wanted Tennant to star in the lead, it would have to be produced for television. The actors schedule wouldn't allow for a long running "Doctor Who" production at this time.

Tennant explains, "'Doctor Who: The Musical', has been mentioned. I would be up for it. I love a song and a dance. The thing about a musical is you have to commit for a year and a half and it's eight times a week."

Tennant recently had to pull out of the London production of "Hamlet" to have back surgery. Sources close to the actor have noted that he will be ready to go when "Doctor Who" begins filming later next year.It is not known whether The Doctor will be doing any singing or dancing in any of the four episodes that are set to be produced during 2009.
