King of Monsters Roars onto the Web to Establish Global Dominance with First Official Website Godzilla.com
Toho
Feel the rumble as one of the most iconic monsters stomps its way online with the global launch of the first-ever official Godzilla website from Japanese entertainment studio Toho Co., in time for the highly anticipated film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters releasing on May 31.
Commemorating the 65th anniversary of its screen debut in 1954, Toho is connecting Godzilla fans around the world of all ages through exciting content from more than 30 films, comics, art, apparel, toys, encompassing the entire Godzilla universe.
“We’re thrilled to unleash a world of content around our most beloved Godzilla,” said Keiji Ota, CGO (Chief Godzilla Officer) at Toho. “Fans have been longing for a universe that celebrates the all-mighty king of monsters and Godzilla.com delivers the most exciting news and stories about upcoming events, new merchandise and special releases as we commemorate the 65th anniversary of Godzilla.”
One of the most exciting features is the first official Godzilla Monsterpedia, unveiling everything fans have ever wanted to know about monsters (or kaiju) in the Godzilla Universe! Monsters such as King Ghidorah, the three-headed monster and Godzilla’s biggest rival; Mothra, the guardian god of its maternal island; and MechaGodzilla, the giant battle robot modeled on Godzilla are featured. The battles among them and with humans are one of the highlights of the Godzilla movies. The more fans get to know about the kaiju, the more they can enjoy the exciting world of Godzilla.
Godzilla.com will be continuously updated as a source of news for upcoming Godzilla films including movie trailers and key art, events, fan content, new product news, and all future announcements. It will also be a resource for Godzilla’s complete filmography including rare videos, wallpaper and much more destructive content including updates on epic Godzilla toys, apparel and lifestyle products.
Godzilla first appeared in Toho’s “Godzilla” (1954), a classic monster movie widely regarded as a masterpiece. The work launched a monster franchise that expanded over 64 years with more than 30 films. Over time, the franchise itself has evolved, as Godzilla and other creatures appearing in Godzilla films have become a metaphor for social commentary in the real world. The characters are no longer mere entertainment icons but embody emotions and social problems of the times. Godzilla has become a globally recognized icon, finding its way into worldwide pop culture and influencing many creative minds.”*
Brains' Watch Replica First In New Thunderbirds' Range
Planet Replicas has joined forces with ITV Studios Global Entertainment to produce a range of Classic Thunderbirds Prop Replicas.
“Thunderbirds is a classic TV series full of excitement and stunning designs, and we are extremely excited to have the opportunity to produce a range of product from such a prestigious IP,” said Daniel Carey-George, Creative Director at Planet Replicas Ltd.
Planet Replicas' first release will be a limited edition replica of the wrist watch worn by Brains, taken from the episode Day of Disaster.
“We are looking forward to taking a fresh approach to the range, and as Thunderbirds is 50 years old this year, we wanted our first product to mark the occasion. A cool, retro styled watch is a perfect way to commemorate this.”
Planet Replicas Ltd will launch the first product in early Q3, with more from the range to follow soon after.
Lobo’s Back in the Studio at a New Kind of Channel
Source: Cinema Insomnia
ZOM-BEE TV is a new FREE horror channel for CONNECTED TELEVISION that is currently on the affordable ROKU STREAMING PLAYER but will soon be infecting SMART TVs, GAME SYSTEMS, and SMART PHONES…
Even though the creator and host of Cinema Insomnia is still viewable on AMGTV affiliates on terrestrial TV…During the 12 years on the air the number of American who even have a standard TV in their home has dropped in half and Cable and Satellite are steadily declining. DVD sales have dropped off. For Mr. Lobo the writing seems to be on the wall…and Internet Based Streaming Television seems be a likely video successor.
“It reminds me of when UHF was new”– “It allows for all kinds of funky and creative home-grown programing and commercials.” said the extremely prolific horror host Mr. Lobo who seemed energized on set where he recorded footage for 2 and a half new episodes of his 2 hour program and around 40 or more spots for the channel and it’s new sponsors to be inserted in all the channels programs. The spots are 10-60 seconds long and will have MR. LOBO fans howling during the breaks.
“We are working with sponsors that will fit in with the lifestyles of our viewers and ones who will allow us to have fun with their products with a little “tongue in cheek” humor. These sponsors on this first wave of ads get the material and they respect the audience. Fans “get” that Mr. Lobo is a “TV guy” and sponsors make the shows possible and keep the channel free…Mr. Lobo hopes they like our sponsors products and buy them–because I really enjoyed making these commercials.” Don’t worry–Mr. Lobo will still be wrapping around the low-rent royalty free horror stuff on CINEMA INSOMNIA, but he is very excited to be presenting some newer licenced indie films–like the 2006 dark comedy CYXZORK 7 , a horror monster musical called A HARD DAYS NIGHTMARE, and VERY MISUNDERSTOOD 2013 film MIDGET ZOMBIE TAKEOVER. “Mr. Lobo is very interested in discovering overlooked films new and old.” Producer and channel visionary Dale Jackson of ZOM-BEE will be at the NATIONAL HAUNTERS CONVENTION with Mr. Lobo where they will be shooting more content for the channel. If you have a product that you would like to promote to ZOM-BEE’s 50,000 or so subscribers and would like to have Mr. Lobo as your writer and spokesperson email Dale Jackson at ZOM-BEE TV dale@zom-bee.com There is a new interface for ROKU this month–ZOM-BEE TV‘s new look and new content will be rolling out over the next few weeks also.
Maybe, Mr. Lobo can start hocking Waterbeds, Kitchen Gadgets, Chia Pets and Silm Whitman Records–UHF LIVES AGAIN!

ODD ENCOUNTERS Is Open And Ready For Unearthly Business
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Ray Fox
Back in July I posted some press information about a new paranormal website called "Odd Encounters" where people can post their own stories about monsters, UFOs and ghostly visits. Earlier this week the site's founder Ray Fox shot me an email stating that he loved Monster Island News and he was thrilled that I had posted the info on his site.
Ray also went on to note that Odd Encounters was now up and running and ready for people to submit their stories.
Here is an updated press release:
OddEncounters.com is seeking true tales of the paranormal--real ghost stories, ufo reports and reports of brushes with strange creatures. The first edition of bizarre stories has been published and is now live on the site. Now we want to hear your story!
Along with the stories, photos and videos of the paranormal, an Odd Encounters Forum has been established to allow visitors to discuss the features posted on the site, as well as talk about their own odd encounters.
Visit the site at http://www.OddEncounters.com and delve into the world of the supernatural. If you've had a real paranormal experience of your own, submit your story to Odd Encounters today.
The truth is out there. Bring it into the light.
For more information, email info@oddencounters.com.
On a side note Ray's brother Mike runs a Halloween prop company called "Night Frights" that looks pretty cool. If you need anything for your haunted house go HERE
A New Paranormal Website ODD ENCOUNTERS Wants To Hear Your Story
Source: PR.comJust what are UFOs? Who is Bigfoot? What are ghosts? A new website, OddEncounters.com, hopes to answer these questions by publishing eye-witnessed accounts of paranormal activity.
For centuries, people from all walks of life have had experiences that defy explanation—strange lights in the night sky, ghostly apparitions, brushes with bizarre creatures. Tales of alien encounters, Bigfoot sightings and other paranormal activity have long been the fodder of Hollywood blockbusters, but thousands of people have had real-life experiences that can't be easily explained. Odd Encounters delves into the unknown to explore this unexplained phenomena, publishing real-life accounts of the strangest of the strange, from every day people across the United States and beyond.
Odd Encounters is currently seeking accounts of sightings of UFOs; brushes with strange creatures such as Bigfoot, El Chupacabra and the Loch Ness Monster; and first-hand accounts of ghostly apparitions and mysterious orbs.
Along with the stories themselves, users are able to upload supporting media files, such as videos of UFOs, ghost photographs and EVP audio recordings (voices from the afterlife caught on tape). A discussion area will be established for visitors to comment on each story, and a podcast featuring the Odd Encounter of the Week will be featured on the site. Stories are currently being compiled and are scheduled to be published on the website by the end of Summer 2011.
If you've had a real paranormal experience, submit your story to Odd Encounters today at www.oddencounters.com. You may remain anonymous if you prefer.
The truth is out there. Help bring it into the light.

THE BLOODY RAGE OF BIGFOOT - New DVD Deal And Website
Written By: Ken HulseySource: James Baack
I just received an email from film maker James Baack stating that he has just signed a distribution deal for his film, "The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot" through Cheezy Flicks Entertainment, the same company that sells the Charles Pierce classic, "The Legend of Boggy Creek."
James didn't go into any details, except that the contract was inked on Wednesday, and that the deal would expand the availability of his Bigfoot horror movie that doubles as a psychological thriller.
In related news, Baack also passed along the news that his production company, Great Lakes Artists Group, a co-op between James, Steve Galayda, Ron Feyereisen, Tina Boivin, and his brother Paul Baack, had just launched a brand-new website. (Go Here)
Here is the info on Great Lakes Artists Group:
The Great Lakes Artists Group is an association of Chicago-area artists,
filmmakers, musicians, and writers. Founded in 2006 by noted cryptozoological
artist and painter James Baack, the group focuses on creative expressions
representing the outré and fantastic side of reality. The group has recently
celebrated a team milestone with the release of its first motion picture, the
horror comedy The Bloody Rage of Bigfoot. The enthusiastic reception the film has received from fans of the genre has inspired the group to begin planning a follow-up feature, tentatively called The Sisters of St. Tommygun. Watch this site for news of further developments!
"The Sisters of St. Tommygun" film is a new one on me, I may Baack revealed to me that his next film would be "Orgy of the Damned", (originally titled, "The Uninvited Alien Invasion"). I guess we will just have to wait and see on that one.
Along with news and information about the groups upcoming film the site is also the new home of Satantha & Loosey-Fur's House of Sin, a sub-site that features actresses Andrea Hutchison and Tina Boivin from "Bloody Rage" and the proposed "Orgy of the Damned". If you like girls with guns and girls posed on motorcycles go - HERE
I tip my hat to Baack and his comrades up in the Chicago area. I wish them continued success in their endeavors to keep pumping out their over-the-top horror movies.

Monster Island News Is Certified "Geek"!
Written By: Ken HulseyHey, check this out! Monster Island News has just received it's first accolade, it's just been named 'Certifiably Geek' by the Certifiably Geek Blog.
I'm truly touched...and very, very honoured.
I certainly am a huge 'geek', and I certainly try to post stuff that other geeks will enjoy.
I can't accept this honor without mentioning all the other, 'little people' who help make Monster Island News so socially awkward:
Armand Vaquer
Rachel Grubb
Avery Guerra
There are more people I should thank...but with all this excitement....I can't remember any of them...
Oh, and before I forget, MIN was nominated for this special honour by The Acrobatic Flea in the UK, who runs a really randy blog called, "Hero Press".
If you are into comic books, role playing games, Doctor Who and other UK related sci fi, or just pop culture in general, The Flea is all over it.
Now as a new recipient of this honor, I have to nominate two other sites for the award.
I hereby nominate:
The Good, the Bad, and Godzilla 続・夕陽の呉爾羅
August Ragone's blog is every Japanese monster fans dream come true. Honestly, now one knows as much about the world of Japanese cinema as August does.
August has written what may be the best book ever about the life of legendary special effects artist, Eiji Tsuburaya, called, EIJI TSUBURAYA:MASTER OF MONSTERS
It's a real gem
Undead Brainspasm
If you think the crap I write about is off center...wow....you really need to check out Robert Hood's blog, "Undead Brainspasm."
Robert is the top name when it comes to 'alternative' cinema. If there's an indie horror or monster film being made, Robert knows all about it.
Congratulations, you've just been nominated!
You like me.....you really like me!
God Bless You All!
New Poster Art And Website Info For 'Strip Club Slasher'
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Scarlet Salem / Rachel Grubb / Elske McCain
Over the past year, three of indie horrors top actresses have become regulars here at Monster Island News. Scarlet Salem has blessed us with some awesome photographs, Elske McCain has given us insight into the sometimes turbulent life of a modern scream queen, and Rachel Grubb has contributed to the sight with a handful of insightful articles about pop culture and comic books.
All three of these lovely ladies made it into our "Hottest Women of 2009" list, without any favoritism, I assure you, which means that this sites readers really have fallen for them.
In NFTS Productions upcoming horror, "Strip Club Slasher" you will be able to get all three of these heavenly women in one film. Yes, Scarlet, Rachel and Elske will be strutting their stuff and getting chased around by a lunatic serial killer, all for your viewing pleasure.
NFTS has just released a series of posters for "Strip Club Slasher", each of which feature Scarlet, Rachel and Elske exclusively.
The studio has also just launched a new website for the film, and according to Scarlet, a trailer is on the way.
Now before I post the link to the site, I want to warn you that there is adult content there. If you look into the photo gallery you find a topless photo of Rachel in a hot tub and a very bloody image of two girls in a '69'.
Go to Strip Club Slasher
Okay.....everyone just left the site to check that out.
Anyway, due to the fact that MIN attracts some younger readers, I couldn't post any of those here.
For those of you that have stayed behind for some reason, here are the posters for "Strip Club slasher":

Famous Monsters Of Filmland Magazine Returns!
Source: Famous Monsters Of Filmland (Press Release)Those were the immortal words of Dr. Frankenstein (pronounced Frahn-kun-shteen!) portrayed by Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein. The line embodied the passion and sheer exuberance of a man who had just taken a famous monster, once thought to be gone forever, and returned it to life (and given it the ability to do some sweet musical numbers). Today, we share those sentiments as we announce the return of Famous Monsters of Filmland, the print magazine.
While we’re well into development on the first issues, we’re going to be keeping mum on a lot of the details. Here are a few pieces that we can share with you right now:
- In order to make sure that FM gets as wide a release as possible, we’ve teamed with IDW Publishing. Not only are they one of the largest comic publishers in the country, recipient of Diamond Distributor’s “Publisher of the Year” award 4 times, publisher of such hit comics as 30 Days of Night, Joss Whedon’s Angel, Locke and Key, and Transformers; they also happen to be huge monster kids.
More on IDW here.
Our editor-in-chief will be Michael Heisler, a 20-year veteran of the industry who brings a wealth of experience, along with his enthusiasm, to the relaunch.
“FM was far and away my favorite magazine when I was a kid, and there has been nothing quite like it since,” said Heisler. “Our goal is to update that magic for a modern audience, with coverage of current horror in all its forms, while continuing to pay tribute to the classic films that started it all. Personally, I’m thrilled to be taking this step down the road that Forry Ackerman and ‘Chilly Billy’ Cardille put me on so many years ago.”
-The magazine will begin its run in the summer of 2010 and be released quarterly. We haven’t set an exact date for release yet but we hear there’s some kind of big event in the summer where over 150,000 people dress up in costumes and head to San Diego. Just a rumor, probably.
Over the coming months we’ll be bringing you plenty of updates. From details on the covers to content and contributors, you’ll see it all here first. Make sure to check back and sign-up at our social networking sites (those icons in the upper right on the front page) as we’ll be releasing different info on all of them from time-to-time.
Last but not least, we’re counting on you to leave us comments and tell us your thoughts on what you’d like to see in the new FM. This is the time to make your voice heard and help forge the path that the magazine will take. Don’t be shy; all are welcome.
“I’ve always loved Famous Monsters, and when I discovered an opportunity to reinvent the brand for modern times, I jumped at it,” said Phil Kim, FM’s Senior Manager. “Knowing the legacy and the great expectations that came with this iconic trademark, I looked long and hard for a suitable company with an impeccable reputation for quality and respect. After a two-year search, I am proud to announce our partnership with IDW.”

Famous Monsters Of Filmland - Editor To Be Announced Soon - Magazine Being Pushed Back
Source: Michael / Famous Monsters of FilmlandSince the very first day that famousmonsters.com went online, the question we’ve been asked most often is “when is the magazine relaunching?” Not if, mind you, but when. There seems to have been no doubt whatsoever that a new version of the print magazine would be shortly following on the heels of the web version. Admittedly, we helped to stoke this fire by announcing the “2009 Edition” last spring. Well…things change. When it began to look as though the “2009 Edition” wasn’t going to be everything that either we or you hoped for, we decided to throttle back a bit and regroup.
Inevitably, though, in the absence of regular updates over an extended period, some other information will always find its way to the public, accurate or otherwise. Case in point, some of you have read an interview with Robert Aragon in HORRORHOUND #20 (on stands last week) that contains quite a few details about the upcoming print version of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. Unfortunately, this interview was conducted several months ago, and, well…things change.
As it so happens, we’re only a matter of days away from making an official announcement. What we can tell you today is that Robert Aragon, while a valuable contributor to the current incarnation of FM, will not be the editor-in-chief, nor will we be producing the previously-discussed “2009 Edition.”
We do appreciate our friends and colleagues at HORRORHOUND firing up the legions of FM fandom, but trust us, if there is something to be said, we’ll be saying it here before we say it anywhere else (our Director of Operations hates it when we take our in-house news to other venues first).
As to the identity of FM’s new editor-in-chief, the only clue we’ll give you for now is on the other side of the ellipsis…

Mr. Lobo Enters The 3rd Dimension For Virtual Fan Gathering
"CINEMA INSOMNIA SCREAMING ROOM"-- MEDIAPODZ Virtual Screening Room Debuts
THE MEDIAVERSE and CINEMA INSOMIA present a Multi-user Avatar 3D Webspace for fans of the cult TV show to "Hang-out".
What do you get when you combine independent late night Horror/Sci-Fi TV with the 3D virtual worlds on the web? Whatever it is, it's scary, new and happening on Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 10 PM -12 AM PST at the deceptively ordinary "simple url" of http://www.cube3.com/cipodz.html, RSVP for this event at http://www.mediaverse.ning.com/. The first 20 or so get in , the rest can watch.;)
THE MEDIAVERSE and CINEMA INSOMNIA will be presenting the first of many virtual world web fan gatherings and special screenings of the nationally syndicated midnight movie TV show. This first event featuring new episodes and DVD's will be shown in the "SCREAMING ROOM." A custom-designed 3D screening room created by Cube3 as part of their forming Mediaverse Network.
A virtual world network for fandom, THE MEDIAVERSE is mixing traditional web and TV media with the community elements of "hanging out" and the e-commerce abilities of virtual worlds and virtual goods. Built upon many web technologies and also in standalone virtual worlds like SECOND LIFE (The SKY CINEMA at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sawrey/252/134/753), THE MEDIAVERSE, CINEMA INSOMNIA and it’s host MR. LOBO (a comic book convention and film festival show regular guest) are reaching out to offer fans a 24/7 immersive experience that one day might rival the "super-crowded" yearly conventions like COMIC-CON or WONDERCON and the weekly Sci-Fi/Comic shows that take place in neighborhoods around the globe. While most virtual worlds online have been either targeting corporate usage or children via games, these planned events are targeting the type of grown up audiences that are defined by the summer blockbuster movies and the XBOX.

"Virtual worlds online are great meeting places and clubhouses for the "like-interested" and fans personify that market " comments CUBE3, THE MEDIAVERSE creator. "Virtual worlds are not a mass broadcast media yet, but to couple them with a TV show and use them to build a community of fans makes a lot of sense and has been the type work we've been doing for over 10 years online. CINEMA INSOMNIA has an amazing cult following and MR. LOBO's shows are a perfect genre match to a virtual community building product like the MEDIAPODZ. The stuff is entertaining as social video to watch, and live MR. LOBO is one funny host."
Presiding "live" as an avatar, the series horror host and cult icon MR. LOBO will be on hand to show a sneak preview of his latest DVD of the CINEMA INSOMNIA episode featuring the "WASP WOMAN " and talk with attendee fans about its creation, horror trivia, or answer any questions on their late night minds. In web2.0 tradition Mr. Lobo will "hang-out" with fans shilling any and all of the horror products he sells and even giving some away as prizes.
Mr. Lobo says " Wow, this is great! This very well might be the next giant step for horror hosts —Radio had "The Man in Black", Comics had the "Cryptkeeper", early live TV had Vampira, National TV had Rod Serling, Syndication powered "Elvira" to the top, Cable ushered in "Mystery Science Theater", and now me and this stuff! -- But why cant I see my feet?"
Other virtual worlds soon launching at THE MEDIAVERSE are a Worlds Fair-like CLASSIC SCI-FI POSTER WORLD to host more general Sci-Fi events online.

The technology that offers the CINEMA INSOMNIA SCREAMING ROOM and MEDIAPODZ a no plug-in, multi browser-platform capability is "3DXPLORER " created by CUBE3 partner ALTADYN. This web 3D platform is one of the firsts to offer true real time 3D with multi-user avatars on both MACS and PC's. It also work’s in almost any web browser due to its use of a Java based technology that can offer a true mass audience reach for any client using the MEDIAPODZ on the Internet. Easy to set up and host, the MEDIAPODZ and the CUBE3 OFFICEPODZ can integrate with an existing traditional client website and with the use of web based standards, and can also be linked to more complex virtual world platforms like SECOND LIFE if required.
The basic MEDIAPODZ and OFFICEPODZ Modules with client customizations and set up can be licensed starting at around $10,000 USD a year. More advanced "Meeting Packages" are available with features like invitations, record keeping and shared screen control for presentations.

The Sci Fi Channel Is Morphing Into Sy Fy.....WTF?
Source: NBC / UniversalBuilding upon sixteen years of water cooler programming and soaring ratings growth following its most-watched year ever, SCI FI Channel is evolving into Syfy on air and on-line beginning July 7th, it was announced today by Dave Howe, President, SCI FI.
By changing the name to Syfy, which remains phonetically identical, the new brand broadens perceptions and embraces a wider and more diverse range of imagination-based entertainment including fantasy, paranormal, reality, mystery, action and adventure, as well as science fiction. It also positions the brand for future growth by creating an ownable trademark that can travel easily with consumers across new media and non-linear digital platforms, new international channels and extend into new business ventures.
Imagine Greater will become the new brand message and tagline, inviting both consumers and advertisers into a new era of unlimited imagination, exceptional experiences and greater entertainment. Syfy more clearly captures the mainstream appeal of the world's biggest entertainment category, and reflects the network's ongoing strategy to create programming that's more accessible and relatable to new audiences. Syfy will continue to celebrate the traditional roots of the genre, while opening the brand aperture to accommodate a broader range of imagination-based entertainment.
"While continuing to embrace our legacy and our core audience, we needed to cultivate a distinct point of view with a name that we could own that invites more people in and reflects our broader range of programming," said Mr. Howe in making the announcement. "Syfy allows us to build on our 16 year heritage of success with a new brand built on the power that fuels our genre: the Imagination. Syfy ushers in a new era of unlimited imagination, exceptional experiences and greater entertainment that paves the way for us to truly become a global lifestyle brand."
Syfy, unlike the generic entertainment category "sci-fi", firmly establishes a uniquely ownable trademark that is portable across all non-linear digital platforms and beyond, from Hulu to iTunes. Syfy also creates an umbrella brand name that can extend into new adjacent businesses under the Syfy Ventures banner, such as Syfy Games, Syfy Films and Syfy Kids.
Additionally, as the Channel's footprint expands rapidly around the globe, aiming to reach more than 50 international channels by the end of next year, Syfy meets the need of a globally relevant, trademarkable brand that stands for something unique to the brand in each territory.
The new brand evolution will launch on air and on-line July 7th, in tandem with the premiere of the new scripted drama, Warehouse 13, and the return of breakout summer series Eureka. An aggressive trade marketing campaign will kick off this spring. Scifi.com will assume the URL Syfy.com at that time.
Monster Island News - New Group On Facebook
Written By: Ken HulseyI just wanted to let everyone know that 'Monster Island News' has a brand-new group on Facebook!
The group, called, "Monster Island News: Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror, & B Movie Junkies" was launched on Monday. So far it has been a big success! The group grew from 0 to 63 members in just 24 hours!
I found that to be rather impressive!
I don't want to brag (okay, I really do) but the group's members include some of the top talent in the genre.
Here is the description for the group:
Do you find the average movie boring? Are you looking for something a little off center when you go to the movies? Does your DVD collection contain: Army of Darkness, Big Trouble In Little China, Logan's Run, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Destroy All Monsters, Star Crash, Star Wars or Planet of the Apes? Do you believe that B Movie doesn't stand for 'bad' movie? Do your friends think your crazy? Well we don't here!
Does this sound like your kind of group? Well if you are a member of Facebook, come on aboard at: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=54512444033&ref=mf
We look forward to seeing you!
