Directer Jennifer Lynch, who won the infamous "Raspberry Award" for her 1993 movie "Boxing Helena ", has cast Bollywood hottie, Mallika Sherawat, as the snake woman Nagin in her latest film "Hisss". Despite Lynch's reputation as a bad directer, the film has sparked some interest on the net due to its complex make-up and effects and, of course, the casting of Sherawat who was voted the hottest bod in Bollywood.
It is not certain just how much of Sherawat's "hot bod" fans will be treated to in "Hisss" due to the fact that the actress will spend much of her time wearing the snake woman's very heavy costume and makeup, although her character does transform into human form. Reportedly the actress had to endure wearing the costume for 8-10 hours at a time. Also making the process more uncomfortable for Sherawat was the fact that the costume was designed so form-fitting that she couldn't eat or drink during filming, which was probably for the best, because she couldn't remove it go to the bathroom.
In addition to the bulky costume, Sherawat had to wear huge contact lenses that covered her whole eye. The actress has to take out the lenses every few hours to let her eyes breathe.
"Hisss" reportedly revolves around the vengeful Nagin, who can shape shift into a gorgeous woman, who goes to the city to hunt for her mate, who has been captured from the jungle by an American, George States. Hisss also stars Irfan Khan who plays a cop who has to track her down to stop the destruction she unleashes in the city.
The Nagin has been the topic of over a dozen films in India produced between 1920 and 1990, each of which have featured over-the-top make-up and below average special effects. The most successful of the films was 1986's "Nagina" in which the main character was played another Bollywood seductress named Sridevi. "Nagina" was successful enough to spawn a sequel, but it never gained any interest outside of India.
The Nagin will probably remind American movie-goers of the half-snake-half-woman, "Kala" (played by Shakti) from the comedy film "The Golden Child", which starred Eddie Murphy.
