Dynamite Entertainment proudly announces the launch of a groundbreaking new comic series, The Green Hornet / Miss Fury, pairing two iconic pulp superhero characters for the very first time. Debuting this November, the series features the acclaimed creative talents of writers Alex Segura (Star Wars, Secret Identity) and Henry Barajas (Helm Greycastle, Batman: Urban Legends), alongside rising star artist Federico Sorressa.
When the vigilantes Marla Drake (Miss Fury) and Britt Reid (The Green Hornet) cross paths, their different approaches to crimefighting immediately clash. The two share a mentor, the mysterious Silver Shrike, whose death propels them into an uneasy alliance to uncover the truth.
As the unlikely partners investigate their mentor's demise, they stumble upon a deeper conspiracy that threatens all "masked" heroes. The by-the-book Green Hornet butts heads with Miss Fury's more surgical strategy of targeting the leadership of organized crime. Can this duo, along with Hornet's loyal sidekick Kato, get to the bottom of the looming threat before it consumes them?
The entire investigative team, including Dynamite, Segura, Barajas, and Sorressa, invites readers to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the Silver Shrike.
"As an avid reader of pulp heroes growing up, and an enthusiastic collaborator with my friends, I was thrilled when Dynamite approached me to take on this series," Segura said. "Henry and I had been brainstorming Green Hornet ideas for a while, and this felt like the perfect opportunity to not only spotlight the iconic hero, but also pit him against the classic comic heroine, Miss Fury. Fleshing out her backstory and exploring the dynamic between these two legendary characters has been a real treat - the story practically writes itself. Add to that Federico's detailed, cinematic artwork on every page, and the result is sure to be an exhilarating, Bronze Age-style adventure for longtime fans of Green Hornet and Miss Fury, as well as newcomers looking for a fun, action-packed read."
This story is not an origin tale or reimagining. Instead, it blends the nostalgic charm of the Green Hornet's classic 1960s TV era with a modern neo-noir sensibility. Both the Green Hornet and Miss Fury date back to the 1930s and 40s, with their adventures spanning multiple eras over the decades. The Green Hornet has appeared across a wide range of media, from radio and film to television and comics, including an acclaimed 15-year run at Dynamite. Meanwhile, Miss Fury holds the distinction of being the first female superhero created by a woman, the trailblazing June Tarpé Mills.
"Green Hornet and Miss Fury are two of the most iconic pulp capes ever. I grew up pouring through the early Harvey Comics stories, listening to the radio shows, and watching the 1966 TV show starring Bruce Lee as Kato," Barajas said. "This is undoubtedly a love letter to the Golden Age of comics while stinging the fans leaving them asking for more."
Writer Alex Segura is renowned for his talent with pulpy, noir-esque tales that draw heavily on the tropes and history of those genres, as well as the comics medium. His acclaimed novels "Secret Identity" and "Alter Ego" weave compelling mystery and thriller narratives inspired by the comics industry. Segura's work on comics like "Dick Tracy," "Blood Oath," and "Black Ghost" further taps into this sensibility, priming him for this exciting crossover project. He's joined by acclaimed co-writer Henry Barajas in developing the story, with newcomer Federico Sorressa set to provide the artwork for this deadly duo.
This series will showcase a collection of gritty, hard-boiled cover illustrations by renowned artists, including Francesco Francavilla, Jae Lee, Jonathan Case, and Jacob Edgar.
The upcoming comic book THE GREEN HORNET / MISS FURY #1 will be featured in Diamond Comic Distributors' September 2024 Previews catalog, the premier source for the comic book specialty market. The issue is scheduled for release in November 2024, and comic book fans are encouraged to pre-order copies from their local comic book retailers.
