Is Star Trek Set To Return To Television?

It doesn't seem like that long ago that Star Trek was the dominate sci fi series on television. In fact, the Star Trek 'franchise' pretty much owned the sci fi landscape in the 1990s', with as many as three series on the air at one time.

As loyal as Trek fans are, by the time that "Enterprise" came around there had just been too many series in too short a time, and interest in the series quickly fained.

Well that was then, and this is now. Interest in the new "Star Trek" movie has spawned interest in bringing the series back to television.

Screenwriter Bryan Fuller has been busy putting pen to paper, writing out ideas for a new series that would fall in line with Abrams new film.

Fuller was quoted as saying, "I told my agent and told the people of J.J. Abrams' team I want to create another Star Trek series and have an idea that I’m kicking around. I would love to return to the spirit of the old series with the colours and attitude. I loved Voyager and Deep Space Nine, but they seem to have lost the 60s' fun and I would love to take it back to its origin.

"I would love to do it in the same era as the J.J. Abrams movie, but on another starship on a completely different adventure."

Bringing Star Trek back to TV may sound like a good idea, but will the fans tune in to a series set in Abrams alternate universe? Fan reaction to the new "Star Trek" film has been mixed. There are a large number of fans out there, that honestly don't like what they have seen so far from the clips that have aired.

There is also the fact that it just may be too soon to launch another Trek series. The body of "Enterprise" still isn't cold yet and a new series may follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and become a dud ratings wise.

Honestly, I'm still on the fence with this one. I really want to get excited about Abrams new "Star Trek" film, but I have mixed emotions. I try to have an open mind, I really do. I want to like it, but it just doesn't look, and feel, right to me.

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

I did grow up with the classic series after all.

I will go see it and I will try to put visions of the good old days out of my mind when I do. I just hope it doesn't suck.....
