This past Monday a group of Star Trek fans packed a local movie theater in Austin, Texas expecting to see the 1982 classic "The Wrath Of Khan". A few seconds into the movie, the surprised audience realised that they had been duped, much to their shock and delight. You see, "Khan" had been replaced with J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" movie, which isn't scheduled to be released until May 8th.
The ruse was the idea of veteran "Trek" actor Leonard Nimoy and producer Damon Lindelhof, who wanted to stir up a little more publicity for the film.
Their plan worked, and how.
Reaction to the film was more than approving!
Austin-based Harry Knowles, who runs movie spoiler website AintItCoolNews.com, reports the screening concluded with a standing ovation that lasted five minutes.
He writes, "After the film, the audience was a collective smile, some crying they were so happy."
Online reviews posted after the surprise screening call the new film "amazing" and "new and fresh, but it doesn’t forget its roots," while Twitter.com fans who saw the film posted review comments like, "Just saw the new Star Trek movie and it melted my pants!!!!!"
I don't know if the new movie is going to "melt my pants", but I can't help being excited by this news. You know my plump butt is going to be in the theater the weekend it opens.
