Many fans have questioned director John Johnson's reasoning for wanting to make a remake of Ed Wood's infamous movie, "Plan 9 From Outer Space", and yet even more fans have questioned his use of a bigger budget, better cast and updated script.
If you are one of these doubters, then the new trailer for "Plan 9" is unlikely to sway your opinions.
From what we see here, "Plan 9" looks a lot like the kind of film Ed Wood would have produced had he been possessed by George A. Romero, or vice-versa.
Granted, the trailer for the film looks really cool, but I don't honestly know If I quite buy Johnson's film as a proper tribute to the cheesy stylings of Wood?
I mean, where are the cardboard sets, where are the plastic space ships, where are the over-the-top vampire characters?
I guess that there was some little part of me that wanted to see some of that in the movie. Instead there is, what looks like, a very good space zombie movie here. Which is okay in it's own right.
I guess that it will just take some time for me to wrap my head around a big-budget "Plan 9".
Note: Director John Johnson is going to have a live chat feed at 8pm on Sunday, September 13, 2009 Eastern Standard Time to answer questions and discuss the film and teaser trailer. It will be held at this link… http://www.blogtv.com/People/darkstoneent

I think John Johnson felt he could give the material something it didn't already have before. If you try and make a bad movie--how do you know if you've suceeded? We'll always have the Cheesy, Black and White, badly acted, incomprehensible "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and that will stand alone on it's own merits or lack thereof and so will this. I would hope it plays out to be as stand alone as John Carpenter's Version of the Thing or the 70's Invasion Of The Body Snatchers...
